If Boxing was on PPV like UFC it would be just as big?

by the way, the ufc just signed a deal with FOX worth almost 100 million dollars per year over (i think) 9 years. I wish boxing could do something similar to get the best fights back to network television in the states. Exactly this story some what sparked my question sub-consciously... Boxing is great, better then MMA but not marketing itself as so... If Boxing did, no question it would be just as popular, as the NFL... ****s crazy 60's, 70's and 80's boxing was unstoppable... About 90-92 when Tyson started being on PPV and killing cats in 32 sec, and ODLH started losing, hasn't been a star like or exposure as then... If Roy,Calzaghe, Floyd, Hopkins, Lewis, Klits etc.. were on network tv like Tyson and ODLH where, no doubt boxing would be the sport to watch IMO!!

Of course boxing won't die, don't get so defensive. The question is what they can do to make the sport better than it currently is.No it won't make the sport better by having Pay Per Views every month I think the promotors need to do shows together and let their fighters fight each other all of them need to sit down and plan out a 2012 all star fight schedule.

No I like the fact that boxing is on HBO and SHOWTIME it's the reason why I have those channels Boxing will never die boxing is here to stay. It's the UFC fans that are annoying about it the one thing they have on us is the undercards but Golden Boy is trying do fix that and now if Scum bag Arum did the Same. Every time the UFC fans talk smack about boxing all I say is UFC works their schedule around Pay per View Boxing because if they put it on the same night they will lose trust me I am not saying I don't watch UFC my buddies get those fights sometimes but I am not going to pay to watch it.

If anything PPV has hurt boxing the most. All the best cards are either on PPV or Premium cable. Now imagine you are less than a casual observer........ are you going to fork over 60 dollars to watch a couple of guys you've never seen or heard of? Of course not but lets assume somehow you do..... It turns out to be a track meet snooze fest..... are you ever doing that again? Nope. Fights need to go back to being free and selling tons in rights to channels who will take advantage of its viewership to sell you products. Just like the old days and how they do it in countries where Boxing has a much bigger following than in the USA.

It wouldn't do as well because it doesn't really have a wild card factor like MMA does...a knee to the head can change a fight faster than 99.99% of punches can...If boxing could find a way to have guys with 11-8 records have appeal on PPVs, then they might have a case. if top boxers fought other top guys like in the ufc they would have records like that. think about it most boxers rack up 30 wins against tomato cans then they get a title and defend against bums for the most part. there are very few fights where top guys actually have a chance to lose. you don't get very many tune ups in the ufc. you get built up pretty fast and then the top contenders all fight to get a shot and the guy with the belt is constantly facing the top guys. boxing is basically the exact opposite. if you are too good you don't get a shot.

UFC has peaked already. It was a fad, and interest is declining. Boxing needed to learn some things from the UFC and they did. Just look at the Mayweather vs Ortiz card. The UFC needs to learn some things from boxing as well. Dana White's business model is killing the sport. No one can afford to pay for a ppv (sometimes two) every month. The UFC is not going anywhere, but the Brock Lesnar phenomenon is over.

No less, is more. Less PPV's will be better for the sport. What HBO needs to do is take part of what Showtime does and that is great fights, no rights. Stop trying to sign fighters and actually sign fights.

the networks have done a ****ty work building stars. Also, boxing has a lot to learn from the ufc in terms of building a card thats solid from top to bottom, not just banking on the main fight. No, charging people to watch boxing will not get it "talked about", building stars and putting out good quality fights will.
