I live in San Antonio and I see a ton of red hair, freckle faced Mexicans as well as Mexicans, who unless you heard their last name or hear them speak spanish, you would swear they were white.
I say this because every time I hear that Canelo doesn't look like the typical Mexican, I think to myself, what does the typical Mexican mexican suppose to look like?
No offense to anyone, but I was always baffled by this, especially when I see Mexicans, and Mexican American people who vary in different skin colors.
Co-sign!
You would know this if you lived over here in Western USA or if you visited Northern parts of Mexico.
I'm Mexican-American and I am a light brown mestizo( see my profile pic) while my brother is very dark with an olive complexion. He could totally pass as a Middle Eastern or East Indian. My family from my fathers side is very light skinned and some with green eyes. My niece looks pure white and my daughters are like me.
If you truly grew around Mexicans it would be very common to see Mexicans with white skin, not a lot of gingers but a lot of white Mexicans for sure.
Mexicans come in all shapes, colors and sizes.
how do I see that picture?
Its quite simply because a lot of people don't realize that is one of the countries Mexico exemplifies the "Melting Pot" of races. We are as mixed as can be and that's probably why the culture is so rich.
some of the races/ethinicities/nationalities of people who came to Mexico and contributed to the melting pot are:
Native American- Aztecs, Toltecs, Inca, Maya etc.
European - Spanish, Irish, German, French, English
Asian - Mostly Chinese, but quite a few Japanese as well
African - Congolese but unlikely homogeneous, and others.
Middle East - Lebanon
Similar Mixed - People from all over Latin America who are already intermingled have also contributed greatly.
I am of very light brown skin, with dark brown eyes, and hair but my first girlfriend in Mexico was very light skinned and blonde. And at no point did anyone ever think it was weird to see either me, her, or my very dark skinned cousin.
Whole point of the thread is if u see a red headed white skinned Mexican DON'T be seprised because we as mexicans see it all the time.
Thats kinda the point I was making.
It seems the only people arguing are guys like kev and demspeyrollin but both of those dudes are from up north, so it's kinda hard to take their opinions serious.
With that said, ignorant line of thinking makes one believe all Mexicans are dark skinned etc...but that's not even the case.
You wouldn't think these guys were mexican either

The guy doesn't have the native physical characteristics of most mexicans (tan skin, prominent facial features, etc etc), not to mention he doesn't have that mexican warrior personality either.
Watch Marquez, Margarito, etc etc getting interviewed and then watch this soulless ginger and you'll notice the difference. Plus the guy is a *****
You need to define prominent. Prominent means something "sticks out." Somthing that sticks out is an Asians cheeks, Caucasians nose / jaw, or Africans nose or lips.
In my opinion, Mexicans normally look like they are somewhere between South East Asian and European. Genetically, thats not far off from what they are either.
In usa they think all mexicans look brown because that is the most mexican ethnics they get there, mexican indigenous are the poorest people in mexico and the most forced to cross borders. True is if you put a foot in a non public school in México you´d be surprised at how kids look over there.
Also aztecs were a dominant empire but only on their territories, center-north and north of México wasn´t aztec, aztecs didn´t want to deal with chichimecas it seems and even the Spaniards didn´t conquer anyone here... it was war for centuries even after the fall of the aztecs. Look at Orlando Salido, what a warrior, but he isn´t an aztec (but a Mayo/Yaqui/seris).

Canelo is not a typical mexican, it doesnt make a difference if there are some gingers out there. That would be like saying, oh a black canadian but nothing special there, that is typical so no reason to be surprised by it. A typical mexican is something like George lopes whether some people will like it or not, however there is no reason to feel annoyed by this or anything else for that matter
Uh..........no.
Canelo isn't the typical Mexican, if he was he wouldn't be called "Canelo". I have lived in Mexico for many years and while I have seen red headed people there, they aren't typical. You don't see many natural red heads or blondes in Mexico or Central America.
It's not "typical".
you don't see many redheads here neither
I dated a Mexican guy with grey eyes, he was white complected
nothing mayan about mexicans. azteca yes. mayans were the dominant power in central america, centuries before the aztecs.
how so? go to Yucatan or Chiapas and there are thousands of people of mayan descent, not just in central america.
different tribes. race has nothing to do with it. there is no such thing as an idian race. a mohawk indian from new york is very different from a eskimo in canada which is just as different from a aztek in mexico. mayans were long gone by the time the spaniards conquered mexico. the azteca were still there, and they were the dominant force in the region and many mexicans share aztec descent. but mayan? its really doubtful.
you are talking about there civilization, the mayans were and are still in mexico. They never left.
What's weird is why isn't there any black blood in Mexico?
There are also black mexicans, but their populations are really very small
They concentrate in mostly that area of Costa Chica
