MANILA, Philippines – WBC Welterweight champion Victor Ortiz is confident heading into his September 17 match-up against undefeated fighter Floyd Mayweather Jr.
A member of Team Ortiz told Examiner.com that the 24-year-old champion is planning to go for a knock out against Mayweather.
"He told us he's going for an early knockout; 3 rounds or less," said a member of Team Ortiz.
Ortiz will be the first boxer to face Mayweather in 16 months.
Mayweather, who is undefeated through 41 fights, is highly favored to win against Ortiz.

He may put Floyd on queer street and drop him in the first 3 rounds, but definitely not knock him out. If Berto could weather the storm, Floyd certainly can. I think Floyd stops him in the 10th or 11th round. The first three rounds will look like Ortiz-Berto, but the rest will look like Floyd-Mosley until Ortiz folds.
This is probably his best chance. I believe Floyd when he said he doesn't watch film on his opponents (I'm sure Roger and the rest of his team does). That's why early in fights you see Floyd look vulnerable and off balance ala the Zab, Hatton, and Mosley fights. I'm sure Ortiz camp is telling him that the key is to not let Floyd get comfortable and that right that Shane landed has given him hope that the elusive Floyd Mayweather can be caught. I'm a huge Floyd fan, but I think there is a hint of danger in this opponent.
Floyd will weather the storm then start ripping it up on the inside with body shots and KO ortiz late, that is if ortiz hasnt got the stamina to put it on floyd for 12 rounds. I think jeff mayweather was accurate in saying mayweathers hatton win is the way ortiz gets beat.

Off topic I know that chick in your avi usually plays a rough and tough butch type role in movies but I always thought she looked damn good! I never seen a pic of her like that and my thoughts have been proven well beyond correct. Great pic!!:hitit:
Actually I'd do more than hit it!

You're right, of course. Technically.
I just wonder if he says this to help motivate himself, or to know that he has to get off to a great start or at least hurt Floyd early to keep FMJ from running the table down the stretch.

You are right that PBF doesn't lose rounds after 3 or 4. But saying KO 3 rounds or less he is giving fans and himself expectations and when they are not met more so by himself what will happen to him mentally especially if rounds 1 & 2 don't go well for him. It was just a stupid statement because he has shown mental weakness before and if this is really something he is planning on trying it was stupid to go public with it.

Well, perhaps Vic is realistic.
How often does Floyd lose rounds after rounds 3 or 4?
By round 5, it's usually a shut-out afterwards... right?

This kid talks too much and I love this.Mayweather has never fought anyone who talks so much trash.Ortiz struggled against Peterson and all of a sudden he can knock Mayweather out and finish his career.
Gatti talked rubbish against Mayweather and the rest is history
I have a funny feeling that Ortiz could be the wrong man at the wrong time for Floyd and he might just bash him up and blow him away by the 8th round.
Ortiz is younger, bigger, stronger. He is probably nearly as fast.

Lmfao where did this come from
hahahahahahahahah lol lol
That is his best bet but he should have not put a cap on the number of rounds. Not a smart move.

The reality is that Floyd has given up weight advantages MANY TIMES.
In fact, when Floyd was fighting as a lightweight, he was the same size as the guys who were fighting at featherweight.
If you care to challenge this statement, bet me some points.
He can't outbox Floyd without a jab and even with a jab his boxing skills are limited against Floyd's, so the best chance he has it to rush him and take advantage of the 16 month lay off and hope his power has a more resounding effect than Mosleys did in round 2 against Floyd.
The problem Ortiz faces is everyone thinks the right way is to pressure Mayweather and rock him, but he is used to it, so unless Ortiz lands a few times very hard early on, his chances of winning slip by with each round.
