It puzzles me how people come to this conclusion. Do you really believe that, or are you just trying to criticize Floyd and Manny's wins over him?
Nobody said Hatton was the future of boxing. Nobody said he would beat guys like Roberto Duran (and anyone who did was either stupid or trying to hype him up, like they do with ANY top fighter). Did a few people pick him over Manny and Floyd? Sure, why not? We hadn't seen Floyd against a come forward brawler with that much heart since Castillo, and he gave him hell. Pacquiao is also a midget, and aside from that meaningless win over DLH he hadn't done anything good above 130lbs. But overall, both were favored over Hatton!
The guy had power, heart and came forward with everything. He'd beat everyone at 140 right now aside from Khan and Bradley. So how does that make him overrated? Nobody aside from a few idiots made it seem like he was the next greatest thing. He completely dominated the JWW division for years. Cotto-Hatton would have been a great fight at 140. But he sucks because of his chin? So I guess Khan and Hearns suck too, right? No, obviously not.
1. he clearly ducked Witter. idc about Witter losing b/c he was on top when he was calling Hatton out. Hatton refused to even speak his name.
2. his best 2 wins are over a washed up kosta and castillo
3. got a gift against Collazo
4. got his ass whipped when he stepped up.
5. he was not who you brits thought he was

There is noway to explain it he's not..Hatton was a dangerous fight plain and simple..

Wasn't he quite high in the p4p list at one time, I think that means he was overated.
He wasn't overrated he was a medicore fighter with marginal talent anyone who says he was anything else is just purely a fan not looking at it from a biased objective.
Maidana would KO Hatton.
I don't think so . People forget Hatton was strong , fleet footed and could control the centre of the ring very well (something Khan is now getting better at) . Not to mention his great body attack against the ropes . IMO Hatton wins by a UD or late stoppage.
Maidana would KO Hatton.
lol are you joking??
we already know Maidana doesnt like bodyshots and Hatton winds in with bodyshouts better than most
Hatton cuts Maidana in half in maybe 4 rounds
I wouldn't say he was overrated, he was who he was. I dont remember anyone saying he was a boxing genius or and atg. He seemed like a really down to earth guy, came right at you and brought a lot of buzz and excitement to the sport.
My hat goes off to any fighter like that.
all fighters are overrated by their fans. the attitude of everyone else is what matters. and with that said, ppl nowadays seem to really underrate ricky. he was a good fighter.
tsyzu was past his prime
hatton had great heart- he just didn't have talent
amir khan is already better than hatton
Amir Khan is an exceptional fighter. He's better than a lot of guys already. I just don't see how Hatton sucks and is overrated. Sure he doesn't have amazing talent, but neither does Rios, Margarito or Maidana and people ride their cocks like they're the second coming of Jesus.
He may not have beaten any elite boxers outside of a past prime Tszyu, but that doesn't mean he couldn't or he's a bum. If a prime Ricky fought Marcos Maidana, the scored would be 120-108 across the board in favor of Hatton. He'd probably stop Zab Judah, Holt and Alexander and UD Matthysse too.
Hatton's reputation is yet another casualty of the flame war that persists on this board. Many people only saw him fight 4 or 5 times: May, Pac, Tsyu, Castillo and Collazo no matter how much they say otherwise. Dude's only crime is he got beat by two of the 50 greatest fighters who ever lived.
His drunken fans were a little obnoxious with all that "there's only one Ricky Hatton" stuff. I was in the Boston Garden the night Hatton fought Collazo and after hearing that chant for the umpteenth time, I was a little annoyed with Hatton's fans and certainly didn't want to be counted among them, especially after that crappy performance from Hatton and after that crappy decision from the judges. The sight of so many sad dejected Collazo fans waiting in North Station after the fight for their long train ride back the Bronx is also not something I will soon forget.
The term "overrated" is subjective.
It all depends on who is doing the rating, and what the rating is.
If someone were to say Ricky Hatton was the greatest 140lb champ ever.
They just overrated Ricky Hatton.
If someone were to say Ricky Hatton was a bum with no skill, no heart, and should have never been champion.
They just underrated Ricky Hatton.
I'd guess because outside of Tsyzu he doesn't have a standout win. You can nitpick Floyd's win by saying Hatton wasn't very good at 147, or Pac's by saying Hatton had already been knocked out, but both were very good wins over a good fighter.
exactlyyyy ..theres absolutely no reason
only one i can think of is bc hes brittish or white
other than that i cant think of a single thing to not like ab him
