Simple question. No poll, just discuss.
I always thought Berto's power was overrated, but he did catch Ortiz with some solid shots he didn't see coming. Mayweather is much more accurate then Berto.
At the same time, I don't think Ortiz has the worse chin out there, but he's going to be taking a lot of clean, hard shots.
thoughts?
but to answer the question, of course floyd can stop victor.
hate to day it but this is going to be a rather easy fight for floyd, vic just can't do anything better than floyd in the ring, he just may be a little stronger and that's it.
i'm not looking forward to vic getting beat up, really.:puppy_dog
Floyd didn't stop JMM because he couldn't. Had JMM been a naturally bigger guy, Floyd wouldn't have fought him.
I disagree. You could see it in the 2nd, when he put Marquez down with a lazy left hook. Mayweather easily could have put Marquez down enough or done enough damage to stop him, but he decided to carry him.
Ortiz could stand in the center of the ring with his hands tied behind his back and let Mayweather tee off with hayemakers for 12 three minute rounds and not only will he not be knocked out, his face will still look exactly the same as it did before he got into the ring.
Thats what happens when you fight a guy that can't punch, has the bone strength of a 80 year old woman and isn't man enough to wear Reyes inside the ring.
Floyd has the accuracy and timing to put Ortiz away. Berto was able to drop Ortiz a couple times so I think Mayweather is capable of doing it but the question is will he try to do it.
He could have seemingly finished Marquez off but its not in his nature to finish opponents. I think he will choose to box his way to a decision. Once he has Ortiz under control he will cruise through and let his skills take care of Ortiz. I can see a flash knockdown when a clean counter punch is landed but not a KO.
The worst thing Ortiz can do is hurt Floyd and make him fight. Once Shane did that in round 2 , Floyd became very alert got his hands up and took the fight to Shane. Im sure Floyw ould have been quite happy to hand out a boxing lesson that night but once Shane showed his danger Floyd had to put a beating on him. Same with Ortiz. He can do this the easy way or the hard way. Settle for a points defeat like Marquez or suffer the consequences of trying to win.
Exactly Floyd went thru the motions them first two rds and after that it was all business. Lets be serious for second Marquez never gets stopped knocked down yeah. Floyd landed at 57% connect rate and Marquez at 12% I'm sure if he wanted to he could have stopped him but he needed the rounds. I think Floyd has a very good shot of stopping Victor as he gotten older Floyd punches better and is stronger look at his body in hatton fight and his body in Shane its real difference. Most of these guys on this board are idioits.

Come on man. Once he knocked him down in the second he could've destroyed him but decided not to. Floyd usually fights naturally bigger guys as he moves up in weight. Too much hatin on a monday morning.
He carried Marquez though. Even being careful and trying to get in rounds, it was clear that if Floyd had ever turned it up he could have forced a stoppage without ever putting himself in any real danger.

highly unlikely, Floyd doesn't throw enough to stop anyone anymore. Ortiz has a better chance of catching Floyd and stopping him because he isn't used to eating punches.
the commentators always say floyd has deceptive power
thats why they know nothing about boxing
floyd is a 130 boxer, who hits like a 125 boxer- fighting at 147
pacquiao hits harder than most 170 guys
Share that dope your smoking buddy!! Must be strong!!!
Definitely a possibility. Though what's more likely is that it's a TKO or Ortiz quits due to discouragement. If he can't land anything and Floyd is hitting him with everything he throws, Ortiz might just quit or the corner throw in the towel.
Don't think an outright KO will happen, but the above probably will.

victor is in for a massive schooling but i dont think floyds gonna stop him
JMM is at his best in serious exchanges where his opponent is going all out, that how he beat Diaz, and some say(including myself) Pacquiao the first time. Mayweather knew enough about being a great counterpuncher to not fall into JMM's gameplan. Mayweather didn't man-handle Marquez, he outboxed the **** out of him. Marquez can't be outfought, but he can be outboxed.
Still, i give Ortiz a solid shot at getting at Floyd just as good if not better then Mosley did. Major difference is Ortiz will take full advantage of it. Mayweather has an underrated chin, but it still will be checked by Ortiz at least once.

I disagree with you, J-Ro.
Ortiz has an excellent chance in this fight, and the odds are ridiculous.
Why are the odds ridiculous?
No fighter that's inconsistent, weak minded, questionable chin, toughness, and heart will beat Floyd. Nono.
Ortiz is really not that good. Everything about him is being overhyped and overrated. Hell I would give someone like Bailey a very good chance to turn his lights out. I think someone like Mike Jones beats him. Floyd is just on another level.
Ortis is above average at the most just good solid fgither at best. One win against another average over hyped fighter doesn't change that.
oh floyd could have easily stopped JMM. probably in round 1 or 2
did you watch the fight? he was just practicing his defense the whole time. he has good offense but he never used it.
as floyd said in the faceoff "im fin to destroy this kid {grin}"
Lol,
