If u payed attention and actually know boxing u would know that if u pull a mans head down as Abeko was doing, while the other guy is aiming for a body shot his punch is going to land lower than what he was aiming for. THATS y whe
n the ref saw that he would go in and first tell Abeko to stop pulling his head down then he would tell Abner to watch the low blows. that's y none of them punches weren't counted against him. I expected Tarver to address that but he was too stupid to c that also. Showtime announcers already suck to begin with. Now the ref was crazy to call that low blow a knockdown, but even without that Mares would have won. Mares fought a hell of a fight, stop crying over low blows like little b!tches.
the number of times agbeko held mares head down was minimal to the number of low blows that were being chucked by abby most of them were from a distance in exchanges.
intentional or not he knew he was being warned by the ref and even his own corner made mention of getting a point deducted and he continued to stray low while some were beltline many others were below and on thighs.
not to mention the kidney shots he would tag agbeko with in the clinch
he should of been deducted point(s) if not DQ but clearly mora had some agenda which was to not call a fair even match

fight should have ended in a DQ within 2 rds man, dude was cheating hardcore because the ref allowed him to.
you fuking wet backs make me sick. You guys sure love to defend your cheaters huh?!? Mares is the low blow king and you fukers know it. He did the same **** with Vic. Why do you defend cheates? From mares to chavez and cheato, the list goes on. Fuking disgusting..
Really?
I'm Mexican and don't support any kind of fukkery like that. But to hear you tell it, we're nothing but a bunch of cheat supporting wet backs.
You're comment really tells much about you as an individual and gladly doesn't speak for all Puerto Ricans.

This was the biggest tell for me that Mora was bought off. In the few times he "warned" Mares he would also talk to Agbeko as if he was holding his head down, when that was RARELY the case. F*** him.
By the 6th round, it was incredibly obvious. golden boy just wants to say they finally built a champion from the ground up. Mares will have his day though where he gets brutally smashed.

If you are tired of hearing people cry about it, then get the hell off of this site and don't look at any boxing sites for the next two weeks. Abeko never pulled Mares head down. Mares lean in and Abeko held him. That doesn't justify hitting a man low. Even when his head wasn't down, Mares landed at least 20 low blows. The ref warned him at least 10 times for low blows. When you warn a guy that many times, a point should be deducted at some point. There is no way in hell anyone short of Stevie Wonder could miss that low blow in the 11th round when you are standing two feet from the combatants and have that kind of angle. That ref should be banned for life.
i honestly didn't think it was blatant - mares was trying to fight and agbeko wanted to do that ole gay holding/jerking head down ****. mares ain't gonna stop swinging - he's a true mexicano. . . that's what happens when you try to implement dirty tactics - **** backfires. . .
Blatant or not, there wasn't a point deduction when there should have been, at the very minimum, two. I started watching the fight, rooting for Mares. However, as it continued and it was obvious the ref was in there to have Abner win at any cost, I switched sides. This is a highly tainted victory and if any fight in history were to be investigated, this one would be it.
"Low blow # 28"
It was an absolutely disgusting display put on by the ref. I can't fault Mares for not stopping because its the refs job to make sure such tactics cease. But he didn't, he let Mares continue to do what he was doing and it cost a figther his title. Now, even though I don't fault Mares fully, but he just cheapened himself to many real boxing fans.
It's true, you don't let someone dog you. Yes it's a sport and there are rules, and you'd like to play fair, but the #1 rule is protect yourself at all times. It's a fight and your life is on the line, and if someone starts mugging you, do it back. Agbeko's coach is a big part of the problem. Mine would be screaming at the ref in between every round, making sure it was brought to his attention. And if I start holding and hitting, he'd be sure to yell "REF HE'S HOLDING!" as if I wasn't the one initiating the clinch, or "That's right Spiegel, don't let him hold you!" which is something he actually did for one of my brother's fight and sure enough, the ref heard it and warned the other dude for hitting. Basic things like this you learn in the amateurs. When BHop is hitting you in the back of your head during the clinch on the opposite side of the ref, and the opponent finally does it back blatantly out of retaliation, BHop will grab the back of his head while it's being broken up and the ref sees that. People bitch and moan about these tactics, but it's what you have to do when your life is on the line out there, and Agbeko paid the price for not retaliating. That being said nobody should be hit on the cup that frequently and I feel for the guy.

mares landed 120 more power punches
It's not hard to land that much consistently when you're punching your opponents balls from the get-go, which ultimately saps stamina, makes you drop you hands low to cover em, leaving you susceptible to head shots, makes you fatigued etc.
**** Mares and **** the ref, that sack of **** should never be allowed to officiate another boxing match ever agian. Hopefully, Mares gets Donaire next so his cheating ass gets blasted

What about the low blows that were landed when Agbeko did not have the back of his head??Like the one in the 6th and 7th that Mares was slightly warned for..GTFOH this is not something that can be defended..Agbeko was cheated and Mares is a lying lil sh!t for saying he did not go low...
sure just like all the ricans making threads hating yet all you guys where in hiding.:bottle::bottle:
What are you talking about faggit? Stop being a moron.
:bottle::bottle::bottle:
go cheer for your garbage fighters and stop hating. Oops I forget they all got owned like the putos they are.
You're such a clown its not even funny. This has nothing to do with where Mares is from you little faggit. I actually was a fan of his after the Perez fight but now he is a disgrace.
That's only if ur opponent pushes ur head way low, almost below the waste. Agbeko would have his hand on Mares' shoulder, and the ref would say "don't push it head down"...

Yea mang vato pandejo, youz tell deez ppls. It aint like Mares trained for lowblows or ever punched any1 low in his career.
It aint like he appeared on ESPN lowblowing a dummy and testing his low blow PSI.....
Oh wait he did
lol dammn...

We all understand that if you push down on the neck punches will stay low. But there were plenty of punches that landed below the belt when Agbeko wasn't pushing Mares's head down. The low blow in the 11th round was blatant as ****. The first kd wasn't legit either. I think Mares did enough to winn the fight, but that was horrible reffing and should have been much closer on the scorecards.
Mora is the same guy who deducted Katsidis after warning him once. And then deducted him again when the punches he landed were cleaner then the punches Mares was landing against Agbeko. I think Mora is a biased ref, he seems to favor one fighter in a fight.
.........
I had to copy this pic here from one of our members because I think it best describes the fight for those who did not see it.
