In the lead-up to this fight, there were a lot of great fights that were going to be presented around the same time. There was a DISTINCT thread asking posters which of the fights had the best chance of an upset, most people said other fighters had better chances of upsets than Salido against Juanma.
You can check my post history, I never once felt comfortable about that fight and never saw Salido as a pushover, not by a longshot. It was perplexing to me how people were dismissing Salido as just another opponent that Juanma would take out late (or decision comfortably).
At the time, all I knew about Salido was that I had seen him on an HBO card facing Yuriorkis Gamboa in which he was able to hold his own (but still lost by a wide margin).
Just browsing around right now thinking about the fight, it's incredible to think about how much of an underdog he was proclaimed yet when you look at his record, it's astounding to see the following:
1. Loss against Yuriorkis Gamboa by decision (knocked him down once in the fight)
2. Decisioned Robert Guerrero (but had the decision overturned due to a failed drug test)
3. Lost against Juan Manuel Márquez by decision(wow!)
4. Stopped Rogers Mtagwa in five rounds (Mtagwa, who got blown out by Gamboa yet almost stopped Juanma in the last two rounds of their fight)
Just sayin'. If anybody wants to bet with me, I'll give you 2 to 1 odds that Juanma gets beat again. My 1M to anyone's 500k.
Seeing these kind of things makes me much more confident that Salido will win in the rematch.
Ever since Juanma had that great year (2008) where he got 3 TKO victories in the 1st round and one third round TKO, he fell in love with his power.
He can't go to war with every fighter out there. The way he swings arounds his arms when hurt is just begging to get knocked out cold. Can you imagine had that been Gamboa catching him with a straight right/left uppercut combination in an exchange?
I'm taking bets left and right with this. Anybody wants to bet on Juanma, come and get them! I'll give you 2 to 1 odds. PM me! :boxing:
I'd like Juanma to win but I really don't see it happening.
It's human nature. If it happens often enough, you begin to think you've "got it like that." Then comes the overconfidence and sloppiness...then the fall.
Nonetheless, JuanMa has the talent, the power, the skill (yes, skill) and, very importantly, the machine behind him, to get his career back on track. The rematch with Salido will be interesting. Will Lopez adjust? Will it be enough? The loss to Orlando might be the best thing that happened to JuanMa. Being brought back down to earth might be just what he needed.
I thought JuanMa was just going to run right over Salido. I didn't even bother to check on any of Salido's past fights aside from the loss to Gamboa. I just figured he was a tough guy but not an elite. And since Arum was still trying to marinate the fight between JuanMa and Gamboa I didn't think he'd jeopardize that by matching him too tough.
Now that I've seen Salido's past fights and looking at how beat Lopez I think he'll beat him in the rematch too. This guy is a really tough.
I think a lot of people thought that way. I knew nothing about Salido until he fought Gamboa. Orlando's performance was so solid that I did a some research on him. Things became a little clearer. I still expected JuanMa to get past "Siri," although I believed it would be a tough fight. At that point I viewed Salido as a tough competitor who just couldn't get it done at the highest levels. As I said some time ago on another thread, "Orlando's time may have come."

You're crazy. That wasn't a fluke. A fluke is when a fighter is absolutely thrasing an opponent and suddenly gets hit with a crazy hailmary shot and crashes to the canvas unconscious or unable to recover. (see Judah/Tszyu, Torres/Holt, Jones/Tarver II but I'll Tarver credit because he actually went and won the third fight).
Another thing that wasn't a fluke was Martínez/Williams II despite the crazy knockout. Martínez was landing his left hand VERY frequently and on the 18th-21st attempt he finally pressed the off switch on Williams' body. Salido is not a bum, he was flying under everybody's radar and he 's been in the ring with good fighters (the fact that he decisioned Guerrero before getting overturned and that he went the distance with Gamboa AND fought with Márquez and went the distance with him as well speaks volumes).

Don't bother, froghead and Medved are just trolls. All they do is post stupid sh1t all day and false information.
You are the retard, LUCK in boxing plays a HUGE role in a fight.
One lucky punch can make a diffirence in the fight.
Do you think if fighter A and fighter B fight 10 times that the person who wins the first time will win all 10 times? It doesnt work like that.
A lowblow here, a headbutt there, a bodyshot there, one wrong big breath and getting punched in liver/kidney/stomach and fight can change drastically.
Juan Ma is still a much better fighter. Its like saying Prescott is way better and that his KO wasnt Luck and that he will win 10/10 fights.
Luck is HUGE in Boxing. Changes peoples careers and fortunes (ie lucky Lewis cut on Vitali saved his ass from a Loss)
No such thing as luck in boxing, you throw the punch, it's the opponents job to avoid it.
Just because 2 fighters fight 10 times and you might not get the same result has nothing to do with luck. It's the preparation, game plan and performance level of that particular fighter that night.
juanma is 33??
No he's not, they are just examples of two trolls who don't even do their jobs very well.
Salido was and still is a Journeyman at BEST and a BUM at worst, he just got lucky. You know when they say a fighter wins a fight 9 out of 10 times? well this was the 1 out of 10 exception.
puto JuanMa probably didnt do any hard training and was just chilling.
JuanMa KO's Salido in 3rd next fight

There was nothing lucky about that fight. Salido beat Lopez's ass the majority of that fight, and stopped him with punches he had been landing all night. It would have been luck if Salido landed a random big punch, he landed a lot of big punches, over and over.
Because people were focused on the possibility of JuanMa vs Gamboa and nobody really wanted to think about the possibility of JuanMa losing and blowing that fight. Now all of a sudden, Gamboa vs John looks a whole lot better and more appealing.

1. no he is not
2. no. now if Salido stopped JuanMa in one round after blitzing him then I could see it but for the most part Salido was dominant at times against JuanMa and the punch he landed to put JuanMa on his ass was not luck it was there all night
JuanMa claimed something was off that night, that his hands were slow, and he couldn't get them going. It's probably just an excuse, but he was 33 at the time of the fight, and everyone slows down.
But Salido is actually an excellent fighter, so it's not a huge shock when you think about it.
juanma is 33??
JuanMa was 27 at the time of the fight. He turned 28 in June.

There's no such thing as luck retard. Salido was landiNg that right at will and was clearly dominating after the first 3 or 4 rounds. Btw I got salido by ko 5-6 rounds.

33??? WTF are you talking about.
i don't understand how salido possibly won this fight. he was coming off a loss! how can you be a good fighter if you just lost to the top fighter in the division? you must be a bum this makes no sense!

Before he fought Salido I made a thread and most thought JuanMa was destined to end up just like he did.
