should we as fans of the sport use "smart business" as a form of excusing a fighter from the decisions they make?
i mean to be realistic, yeah it does play into it a lot and i understand why a fighter would choose a name, even if it is faded, rather than a dangerous little known opponent.
but some "fans" use it completely as a crutch when us fans of the sport (not just one fighter but the sport in general) should be in support for the legacy fights and especially when a fighter has reached a status where the money is pretty much automatically flowing.
what do you guys think?
Lucky for me I guess, I usually don't support superstar fighters. But I really don't blame the promoters & the fighters for what they do. It's really the casual boxing fans & blind nutthuggers fault. It is similar to say a fat old slob like arum coming up to you, instructing you to bend over & shubbing his dirty wheeny up your a$$ without the curtisy of a reach around & you loving every second of it.
That's why I support the Punisher, Mattysse, B-Hop, Martinez & every other fighter that gets pushed to the side in favor of some good ol cherrypickin superstar fighter that already has to much fans like Floyd & Pacman. Check the sig for conformation.
i know. i understand the nature of the business
i guess im talking about the bigger names.
why does pac fight mosley? yeah i guess mosley is a bigger name but honestly any fight that pac is in will bring in millions.
pac isnt an up and comer, hes a super star, hes not hurtin for cash..
Its not about hurting for cash its about maximizing your dollars while you can. I mean ok Manny could have fought Berto for say a guarantee of 10 mill or he could fight Mosley for a guarantee of 15 mill. I would take the 15 mill cause I want all the money I can get before my ride at the top is done. You know the sayings " Get it while the getting is good" and " Strike while the iron is hot". Also you have to think about how little these boxers are paid before they reach this level. What we look at from a fans perspective is those men livelihood.

Think about what you are saying and think about how you are passing the blame on fighters and promoters when the only people to blame here ARE the fans. Money talks, and if a lesser known fighter would bring in more money, that would be the fight that would be made.
Instead, they use bigger names even if they are faded fighters because that's what will bring in the biggest revenue. You can't support the sport on good match ups, you need butts in the seats and buys on PPV. So complain about the fans who don't buy and show up to the so-called fights you desperately want to see so bad.
boxing isn't a real sport. what sport allows the most popular participants to pick and choose their opponents? if the lakers chose to play the nets every game yeah they would probably be undefeated for like 400 years. what if roger federer chose to play the number 4 or 5 player in the world every match instead of nadal? yeah he would probably win almost time. the saddest part is if that was really happening in basketball or tennis no one would watch but in boxing millions of idiots keep paying! why!
boxing needs some sort of regulation where top guys are obligated to fight other top guys because this is ridiculous duckage going on. obviously this will never happen beacuse promoters are making huge money with these alvarez-gomez type mismatches. it's really up to the fans because no superman type figure is gonna come along and set things right. stop supporting dumbazz fights and maybe they will get the message.
I agree, boxing does need to be regulated but at the end of the day fighters aren't picking easy fighters, they are picking the fight that will give them the biggest pay day.
Nobody is avoiding Pac, everyone wants to fight him because he is a big payday but at the same time he has to be smart on who he chooses to fight because he has to make it worth his while to even make the fight.....
Its not that I support "smart business" more of that I understand. I mean this how these men provide for themselves and they family. Who am I to talk sh!t on how they do that when they are not harming me, my family or hurting old people or little kids. Nobody forces anyone to buy a ticket or ppv to a fight they feel is BS. I love boxing but I haven't bought any of Manny's fights since Cotto and I am not buying the Marquez fight either. When all those rumors came out of PBF fighting Nate Campbell or Matthew Hatton I can tell you right now I wouldn't have bought that sh!t and PBF is my favorite boxer. If you pay money to see a fight you felt was not gonna be good then YOU ripped your own self off not the fighters or the promoter. Its your fault live with it!

Smart business doesn't benefit me in the least bit. Smart business means 9 times out of 10 I don't get to see what I as a paying boxing fan want to see.
i agree.. i meant to make that as another point as well.
too many times dudes make it as a way to justify their favorite fighters decisions
