The upcoming bout between Mayweather and Ortiz is a fascinating encounter.
Im a Mayweather fan but have my doubts in this fight. Ortiz against berto looked hungry, determined and had good power and speed. Does anyone have any fight predictions...........?
May picked the right opponent, a young, hungry and strong fighter who has many flaws, lunges with punches and has proved, that when the tough gets going, he has quit....
Ortiz proved he can take it and dish it in the Berto fight, but no one on this board, including the May fans, never thought much of Berto to begin with. Ortiz does have a punchers chance and being a southpaw will help him, but in the end, i think May boxes circles around Ortiz to UD
I'm actually looking forward more to the undercard then the main event. I got tix to the fights and will be there...
Floyd may have taken risks by not staying active for almost 2 years. Many folks think that may have been the case and the reason Mosley was able to rock Floyd pretty good. But I think Mosley was able to time Floyd's punch and got there before Floyd did, and not due to Floyd's inactivity. We saw how Floyd recovered and pitched a shutout after that.
Ortiz is young, hungry, and believes in himself. He believes he has a good chance to beat Floyd and keep the title he's longed for for so long. If Ortiz can pull off a round similar to Mosley's and is able to follow it up and put Floyd in trouble and keep him there, then we could see the tables turning in favor of Ortiz.
Props to Ortiz for calling out Floyd and wanting to test himself.
Mayweather has not been inactive for almost two years. Stop making stuff up.
My view is that while this is the best fight Mayweather could make outside Pacquiao, Ortiz is NOT ready for a fight this big against an opponent this good. He will crack in that ring. He is going to get dominated, and the only way that doesn't happen is if Mayweather got old over the last year.
I'd be SHOCKED if Mayweather is still at the same level, and Ortiz is competitive.
I think Mayweather wins a wide decision,Ortiz will be dangerous early but like most of Floyds opponents he will find it hard too get anything going after 4 or 5 rounds once mayweather finds his groove,Floyds huge advantage in experience shouldnt be overlooked either
I think after round 4 Mayweather wins every single round.
The fact that Floyd has taken the fight make me think he's got Ortiz all figured out all ready. Like you say, it will be rough going for the 1st few rounds then just that tiny slowing in pace from Ortiz will give Floyd all the openings and time to just pick him off.
I'd love to see Ortiz smash him and I think he will be a tougher test for Floyd than say Mosley was but I just can't see Ortiz being able to handle throwing punches, not landing while eating punches he doesn't see coming.
I say if there has been any fighter that can beat Mayweather, that is Ortiz.
Floyd is a master at taming big-hearted brawlers (the likes of Gatti, Corrales, Baldomir, De La Hoya etc.), but he can also handle pressure fighters (Judah, Mosley). Being a counterpuncher, he could be in trouble with aggressive fighters (we've seen it against Castillo for example), the ones that keep coming and coming relentlessly: that's what Ortiz has to do if he wanna win.
As we said Ortiz is young, hungry, willing, and fit. He's used to be the underdog and csan also exploit Floyd's overconfidence. I think he's got more than a chance here.
in all honesty...i'm just happy that people are recognizing ortiz right now as being a viable opponent...it will really be sad when people discredit him if he loses tho...i believe floyd breaks this kid apart and makes him realize all the kinks in his armor...i've bet several people straight up for this fight...right now if floyd loses, i'm paying out $300...but i'm so confident in floyd's abilities...ring rust is not a factor at all in my eyes and the breaks off if anything will help and not floyd in the long run...i believe it will be a great fight...floyd by wide UD tho...maybe score a knockdown...but i don't see floyd getting ko'ed or ortiz winning in any fashion...

I agree with the thought that Floyd is going to get tagged at some point, and how he handles that will give away the outcome. If Floyd does get tagged it will be early while he is doing his usual feeling out. Then one of two things happens. Either Floyd gets hurt badly and his 34 year old legs fail him, or he regroups, adapts (which he does better then anyone I have ever seen), and just schools Ortiz for the rest of the rounds. Floyd is the better boxer by light years, but Ortiz has dropped everyone and is hungry as hell. So this fight goes one of two ways, either Ortiz by KO within lets say 1-3 rounds, or Floyd by wide UD. I cant see Ortiz quitting due to the magnitude of this fight, and I dont know that Floyd will throw enough to stop him. My pick: Mayweather by UD after some obvious rust early on.
I think Floyd stops him late, but he'll either get put on queer street or dropped early.
This really is a good fight. But it would be even better a few years down the line. Of course Floyd won't be around by then though.
I think this is Floyd's fight to lose. He has every advantage but youth and maybe power at 147. We've seen Ortiz struggle against Boxers (Lamont Peterson) and quit against a pressure fighter (Maidana). Does that equate into what we'll see against Mayweather? Not necessarily, but you have to consider Floyd's overall experience and ability to adapt, and I just don't see anything Ortiz has that Floyd hasn't had to deal with.
Now, is it out of the question that Floyd could just be a fraction off his reflexes and speed? Of course, hes 34 and hasn't been very active in the last several years. I expect Floyd to pull off a UD, but if he does show signs of some slipping, it could make for an interesting night. Fighting someone who has everything to gain and nothing to lose can be very dangerous down the stretch.
