I always hear all this "Ortiz is being overrated after the Berto win" stuff, but i can't help but think that if Ortiz hadn't had that one KO loss to Maidana he may very well still be considered a top young up and coming champ.
Thoughts?

Ha, he just walked right into that one. How quickly people forget their own bullsh#t.
Just like they forget how highly Ortiz was rated just a few years ago. Do i think he's the best fighter out there? no, but i gotta say he's the best choice at 147. He's no JMM, but then again neither is Marquez at ww, unless of course he's fighting Pac.:lol1:
Victor is overrated as hell........by flomos as expected.............LOL
Yet he's fighting a Guy that beat a man you said he would/is ducking.

Berto hadn't fought anyone, for starters. He got beat up by forbes early in their fight and lost to Collazo. Ortiz was actually a step up for berto.
That ortiz Lost to maidana and drew with peterson.
He aint all that, and neither was berto.
What exactly is getting "beat up" for you? Berto won 118-109 at worst, that was a dominating win for him against a guy who is tough to stop and has never been stopped at that time.
And he did not draw with Peterson. How you get 2 knock downs and win at least 6 rounds, but get a draw in a 10 round fight?
cotto quit cuz he had nothing left. ortiz quit on himself. he could have continued but he shut it down. cotto, even if he wanted to couldnt continue.
How do you know what Ortiz had and what he didn't have? To me he looked like he took a beating and was badly hurt. But, it's different with Ortiz, cause it just is.

lol, ppl on this fight are funny. after he lost to maidana, most ppl, including many of the mexicans, jumped off that bandwagon faster than flies on ****. soon as he fought and beat berto, many of the same ppl were dickriding again because of their dislike of berto. now that hes fighting floyd, hes overrated according to many of the floyd haters around here. mind u, alot of the same ppl were saying how floyd wouldnt even fight the guy even tho there had been rumors of it for months. these guys arent fans, they are bandwagoners, ignore them.
After the Maidana fight he didn't seem that great but that's cause his team where trying to make him box n move more around the ring. That's not the Ortiz at all. That's why they let Ortiz do his thing with Berto cause they knew Ortiz wouldn't be able to outbox him. His not a boxer, his a puncher and that's what still makes him dangerous. Obviously your gonna have the STRUGGS n other retards trying to down play him but that's just them. (your a bigger retard if you actually pay attention to what they say).
It's like this:
The same people who say 1 loss does not hurt a fighter, are the one's putting down Ortiz for his 1 loss against Maidana.
These guys still hype up Cotto as a threat to Floyd and say the Margarito and Pacquiao TKO losses don't mean it's the end, but the Maidana loss for Ortiz is the end.
The same people complain about fighter retiring undefeated and that it doesn't mean anything, yet if you lose, you suck.
I think he's underrated by some and overrated by others, but in fact is the same fighter he's always been. A tough, skilled, and powerful southpaw who's still rough around the edges. He still has room to grow as a fighter though.
Skills and Ortiz in the same sentence is funny,Ortiz is a bull rusher no real skill to speak of..But your right he is young with a lot of room to grow, let's see if he does or not..
Ortiz is rated about right, there's not much to say about Ortiz.
Ortiz is a great, strong young fighter, very skilled, that combination can be deadly towards anyone.
I would say he is rated about right, meaning that he's not overated. He might be underrated.

on this website pre berto= ortiz retire
this site post berto= ortiz is dangerous for manny and floyd
*sigh*
This was the opinion of most people on here, incuding myself(i didn't think he should retire but i didn't think he had much of a chance against Berto and thought he should just handle his business at jww). But my point remains the same, so let me break it down the way you did;
Pre Maidana: Ortiz was one of the best up and comers in the game, at the time probably considered higher then guys like Khan.
Post Maidana; Ortiz should retire.
You say he was overrated because of one solid win over Berto.
I say he was underrated over 1 loss to Maidana.

Ortiz was once known as a young, great fighter by Pacquiao fans.
That was until he signed to fight Mayweather, from that point on he became a bum.
I think on the day that the fight was announced, that people like Strugg and others were exposed by old post saying that Mayweather would never fight a young figter like Ortiz, or that Ortiz vs Pacquiao would be a great fight.
Who cares, the thread is about do you think Ortiz is underrated(which I don't understand how anybody could feel dude is underrated)and the facts are this...Ortiz never was a top 5 fighter at Jr WW,and the only WW he beat was overrated himself and should have lost to Collazo..I think Ortiz is a fun fighter to watch but he displays no skill and his heart is very questionable..Those are facts having to do with this thread,I don't care about Floyd or Pac either..This is not about that..

Berto isn't some high ranking guy in his weight class... he was there by default. He had a life and death struggle to get past his only real test in his career in Collazo. He had been sugar fed scraps... No one thought that Berto was an elite guy. A good fighter... yes... but in the big picture it is disengenous to say he was highly ranked compared to other fighters.
I do think he(Ortiz) made up his shortcomings with his fight vs Berto, but I don't think he has the tools to even bother Floyd. He lacks a jab and I don't think he can pressure himself to the extent that Floyd would get bothered.
Funny thing is I think Berto and Ortiz are similar fighters..Good fighters nothing special but good fighters..Technically flawed are both these guy's,any fighter with toughness and good boxing ability would beat both Ortiz and Berto..
He's not overrated. He's a young guy people were excited about before he lost to Maidana. Everyone was hoping to see him come back, and when he did so in exciting fashion vs Berto, people were high off the performance. He's a good fighter and recognized as such. but at the same time, everyone knows Berto was nothing special.
he beat the breaks off of peterson and shouldve won UD...he was ahead on the cards with madiana but b1tched out so how was he destroyed?he's a young fighter with a lot of room to improve
Maybe he quit because he was getting destroyed?

If ya wanna use Cards to prove ya point then here is a point for ya..Peterson was the only one with a winning scorecard, and he also won more rds then Ortiz clearly...Maidana destroyed Ortiz bro,use ya two eyes to see how..It won't be that hard to see dude..
I think Ortiz more than made up for Maidana by beating Berto. I also believe people are sleeping on him against Floyd. The man is young, prime & strong. He deserves some kind of respect. Fighters usually don't come up in weight as an underdog opponent & pull out victories over high ranking guys in their weight class.
