Seriously, how do you reject 1.4m? When you have been drinking for the last 4 years and your last legit win came in 2008.
You hold no belts, you can only sell 1000 tickets at home, you arent a big name anymore. Yet you get offered a 60/40 fight against Bute, who holds a belt, who can draw 20,000-30,000 people in Montreal and Romania, who is an exciting fighter?
How do you reason this? Do you know how many boxers would kill to make over $1m a fight? There are less than 15 Boxers in the world making more than $1m a fight, but yet you are too good? You think you deserve better? Arum got you a crazy good deal, all you had to do was show up in Montreal and get ready to be KO'd but coming home with a 1.35m cheque in your pocket.
Seriously, you are the winner of the 2011 Biggest Idiot in Boxing Award! Congrats Kelly "Pabst Blue Ribbon" Pavlik
Business Decision: $50k + $1.35m = 1.4m in bank
$0 + $0 = $0 in bank.
Excellent Business Decision Kelly! Amazing! You should handle my finances
It's just sinking in now. From the position he's career is in at this moment to turn down that kind of money just boggles the f#*king mind!!!!!!!!!!!!
He may be living in the past he's personal Facebook profile picture is one where he's still holding all he's belts lol
Totally ungrateful A-hole. Here he gets a second chance, doesn't have his license revoked like Ricky Hatton did, and decides to just selfishly throw it all away and piss on his opponent, ticketholders, fighters on the undercard, promoters, networks, etc. And in regards to the Bute fight, his quote of "I'm not fighting a southpaw for peanuts" is absolutley disgusting. $1.1 Million and an opportunity he's damn lucky to get is not something to scoff at, it's something he should be on hs hands and knees being thankful for. If you're to chicken to fight Bute that's fine, but honor your commitment to this shobox fight instead of pulling the rug out from everyone making this happen damnit.
It's obviously not the money and not a business decision...
He probably doesn't have his heart or head into boxing 100% anymore. This could be the last we hear of Pavlik until he gets his personal issues sorted out :(
No because even if you are going to get knocked out, you take the money.
1.4m in your bank account vs $0 and a ruined rep.
He wont be getting another big fight after this, he burned his bridges with HBO/Showtime and now Bob Arum. Who is going to risk their money for him?
He just wasted everyones time as this weekend's event is now Canceled but the promoters still have to pay the Rent on the place, the workers, the promoters, I wouldnt be suprised if Arum lost 100k putting this little show on.
I don't think this is about the money ... I just think that he's just too afraid to get hurt in the ring ... when he was undefeated he had a lot of confidence, but after fighting Hopkins and Martinez he lost all of it and now he's afraid to actually get into a hard fight...
