that was a big part of it, it was viewed as a big blunder on his part. That only added to a long list of bad mistakes he's made over the years with boxing.
Come on, NATAS. Why was it a bad mistake?
HBO rejected Cotto vs Vanes, so that greedy old bastard had a tantrum. Pac vs Mosley was a huge fail, HBO didn't even care for it, how big a fail you ask? Well, big enough to not release the pathetic PPV numbers obviously. For the idiot Pactards talking out of their asses..Greenburg resigned voluntarily, read before flapping your lips. It was reported here on Boxingscene, can you not read?
Good god almight, HBO was interested in Pac-Mosley. Greenburg really wanted the fight. Showtime came with a better package deal. CBS, now did they use CBS to their full potential? Probably not. Did it flop? Maybe so. But, HBO wanted this fight but it was Arum who took the better deal and went across the street. HBO is going after Pac-JMM III and that's just as garbage. But, that's because HBO knows with whatever fight Pac has that's a profit on their books. Showtime profited from Pac-Mosley. HBO would have profited from Pac-Mosley. No matter how garbage the PPV was they would have profited. So why wouldn't they want to profit?
And, HBO did not reject Cotto-Mayorga. I don't know every keeps saying that. It was Cotto-Vanes, which would not have been bad BTW. Much better than Cotto-Mayorga.
Showtime offered a better deal because HBO wasn't even interested in either fights.
We all know Showtime gets HBO rejects. Pac-Mosley was a reject of a match in all ways.
Of course HBO was interested in Pacquiao-Mosley. It would have been foolish of them not to have been, because that fight would have made tens of millions of dollars for them and their parent company (Time Warner).
that was a big part of it, it was viewed as a big blunder on his part. That only added to a long list of bad mistakes he's made over the years with boxing.
How was it view a big mistake? some of you guys are beyond ridiculous..The fight itself and its PPV sell rate was a failure, If anything they would be thanking him for not putting money into that fight...

have to agree with this. i do think cotto/mayorga triggered the idea of moving it though, either way, both crap fights when you look at them on paper (and in this case, they turned out to be that).

Because the fight was utter trash & hbo knew that. They have been trying to put on quality fight,Pacman Mosley wasn't 1 of them.Cotto-Mayorga was bad too,but that fight didn't contain arguably the best fighter in the sport.
Shane TOTALLY dogged it. :grumble:
A "real" fighter would have gone out punching, trying to win until the bitter end.
What Shane did was a disgrace to his legacy, whatever that actually is...
Not showing Cotto-Mayorga may have started the process of arum looking elsewhere but he wouldn't have taken the fight to Showtime if he didn't get a great deal. HBO dropped the ball on that one. He has always had intentions with working with HBO, as many of his fighters have been on HBO since.
And yeah, for the record I thought Cotto-mayorga was more interesting and pleasing to watch than Martinez-Dzinzuruk, which I"m sure did sh!t ratings.
HBO really dropped the ball on not broadcasting Cotto/Mayorga. Cotto's fan base is 10x bigger than Martinez's and Dzinzuruk's. I'm really surprised with HBO letting Cotto/Mayorga off.
FYI televise is when it's free HBO.
HBO didn't want to air Cotto-Mayorga on PPV for March 12, instead they decided to televise Martinez-Dzinzuruk on WCB for March 12.
Bob Arum did not like this, so he went to Showtime for Cotto-Mayorga, and Arum still holding a grudge for HBO not taking the shity Cotto-Mayorga fight, he took Pacquiao-Mosley to Showtime as well. He gave HBO a "chance" to outbid Showtime, but in the end he had no intentions of working with HBO.
So that's why. It all started with HBO not wanting Cotto-Mayorga.
They rejected Cotto-Martirosyan. The Mayorga fight was not offered to HBO.
lol hbo didn't drop it top rank got a great deal with showtime/cbs. Greenburg was let go likely because of it.
That's good.
I hope Arum continues doing fights with Showtime. I'm already sick and tired of Lampley and Kellerman's biased views towards fighters, especially Lampley.
