To the guys who had Cotto winning:
If Cotto would have legitimately beat Clottey close but clearly, Pacquiao would have never fought him first. He would have fought the one that looked bad first. Who looked worse/more vulnerable in that fight, Cotto or Clottey? Look at who Pacquiao picked and that's your answer.
I had Clottey winning, I don't have any scorecards but I remember my jaw dropping when Cotto got the decision. Then again it was in MSG where he got some fairly wide scorecards against Mosley in a fight that should have been a draw at worst.
Anyways, most Cotto fans and most Puerto Ricans will pick Cotto, neutral fans should pick Clottey cause I think if you score that fight neutral you should get Clottey winning no matter what.
Lol. Considering he fought them both, and Clottey was still coming off the Cotto fight if you think he is the one who actually won, this post makes no sense.
Clottey should have won, but he took the last two rounds off, and lost the fight.
Punch stats are skewed cause the rounds Clottey won, he dominated(for the most part).
I had Cotto with rounds 1,3,4,6,11,12, with the 1st round knockdown being the difference. Anyone who thinks that's a crazy card needs to watch the fight again or learn how to score a fight.
However, I wouldn't have put up a big fight against Clottey getting the decision. The Clottey fight was definitely closer than the Mosley fight.

That was 2 of the most moronic paragraphs I have read!!!!!
You sr. are a imbecil!!!!
I'm shocked Clottey actually threw 200+ punches, much less landed them. This guys is great at fighting yet looking like he isn't doing ****.
Clottey deserved to lost this one though, to cause such a massive gash on your opponent and sit back and just let that target go poast you for 12 rounds is a ****ing disgrace.
Cotto won it, but Clottey basically threw it away.
Idk what he was doing the last couple rounds he threw next to nothing and could have easily won them.
But for the record I think it would have been a completely different fight if not for that cut from the accidental headbutt.
I had it 6-6 draw, with a 10-8 round for Cotto giving him a one point edge.
Clottey had the fight, but he seems to freeze at the championship rounds. I think it was in round 10, that I feel Cotto hurt Clottey with a counter left hook and then he went to the final 2 rounds just with his guard up.
I loved the fight though, Cotto fought with an eye injury that made him dig a little deep. He spent more time applying pressure to the eye than looking for contact in the mid-rounds, until he went for it in the final two rounds to steal a victory. Good stuff
I had Cotto edging it 114-113.
Clottey had the fight in the bag going into the 10th imo, but he took his foot off the gas and allowed Cotto back into the fight.
Very close fight, could have still been scored either way.
I had it a draw in rounds, but Cotto had the 10-8 round so I had him winning by that point only. Clottey lost it more than Cotto won it, definitely but I think Cotto would have done better without that nasty gash over his eye, I know it cost him at least 1 or 2 rounds. Also, this fight showed me how important a trainer really is, it was Cotto's first fight without one and it showed, even more so in the Manny fight.
this exactly
the drama was very high in that fight. the HBO team did a tremendous job with the broadcast.
even if clottey isn't enough of a giver to make for true FOTY type action, it was a great great fight. high drama. lots of contact.
HUGE cut over cotto's eye from a clash of heads i believe in the 3rd round that bled so bad he was trying to put pressure on it between exchanges
it was a pivotal point in cotto's career
and for it me proved that he would never be the same after margarita
clottey fought what i believe was the best fight of his career and genuinely thought that he won. it's one of the redeeming qualities in what proved to be a disappointing career seeing how be peaked so poorly against pacquiao
its starting to sound ridiculous that pacquiao even fought josh clotted..
but i digress
his knee was badly hurt and his mobility affected by a pseudo cotto takedown // strong man shove
it was an awesome fight that you should try and watch. it was the last time cotto was ever "cotto" as those of us who have been watching boxing for a while remember him.
make sure to get the HBO broadcast if you can get it
He looked like the old Cotto in the Foreman fight. In the Clottey fight he didn't like the old Cotto at all. IMO.

I don't remember what I scored that fight but Clottey clearly won. He should've closed the deal against Miguel in the later rounds when Miguel was backing up all bloodied. That is why Clottey lost that fight, he simply didn't do enough in the last few rounds. Just look at Cotto's face and Clottey's face at the end of the fight and you can not argue that Cotto won.
i had it for clottey, 115-112 i think and im a huge cotto fan.
With that said i was happy cotto got the nod. Clottey was being a major ***** in that fight, constantly complaining and then just shutting off the engine in the later rounds.
Clottey just cant handle the pressure of a big fight.
Had Cotto by a round.
If Clottey had fought the last 2 rounds I had him winning. Cotto stole those last rounds just being active while Clottey just sat there with his guard up.

I had Cotto winning by a round, but until the last round I had a draw. IMO Cotto won the last couple of rounds and that was enough to get a close decision.
I'm a fan of both guys but scored it for Clottey. There really wasnt't one aspect of the fight Cotto won. By that I mean Clottey landed more shots and was the aggressor for the majority of the fight. Clottey won a fairly close fight IMO.
