who has he stopped worth mentioning?...harris who always had a crap chin?....khan took flush shots from maindana who stopped ortiz.....
Sick triangle theory bro, nice.
for what its worth madaina did beat mathysse in the amateurs
there were 10 boxing writers there to score and they all had it for maidana
pro scoring
5 rounds
thats the legend, anyway
mathysse is certainly more skilled
but maidana is the bigger puncher and has more experience at the top
i think mathysse would back up for most of the night and look for spots to throw combinations
if he can keep away from the huge punches i think he has a good chance of winning the decision
he's also gotta be strong enough to tie maidana up, because i don't think his feet are fast enough to stick and move all night
he's got good combinations though
maidana just sort of throws / bangs on a guy
but he can throw 1000 hard punches in a fight
it would be a war. i think that maidana and mathysse are on the same tier
additionally, i'll add that mathysse has the sort of style that would cause khan problems, because he's such a fluid combination puncher
i'd probably pick khan to win a decision (especially with bunk ass joe cortez refereeing)
but there's a good chance mathysse could catch up to him late and knock him out
he's a good body puncher. his right hand is very straight and very hard
and i really like his combinations
Matthysse would have a very good chance against Khan. I think he's capable of beating anyone in the division.
Matthysse has a good chin, good stamina, good power, he's quite fast and he's the best body puncher in the division. And lets not forget he fights smarter than Maidana and he actually times his shots instead of swinging wildly.
:)
Good post I agree..
If that's it,that's it.I think the top 5 fighters there are relatively close as far as placement.Bradley & Khan are not head & shoulders above the rest, not 1 bit.It is 1 of boxings deepest division. But even khan & Bradley have struggled with the other top fighters that they have faught there.
Alexander,Kotelnik,Maidana,Mattysse, maybe even Judah have a right to be named as top fighters at 140.on any given day 1 can argue that they can pull a victory over Khan & Bradley.Bradley is small, his chin isn't granite. But ur gonna have to come with some major stamina to beat him.Khan tires late in fights & gets sloppy. They're beatable, just like the rest.
Did you see the Khan vs Kotelnik fight? Khan won every round you cannot argue that on any given day Kotelnik could beat Khan with a straight face.
Bradley dealt with Alexander without any trouble.
All those guys may be top fighters at 140 but they are not elite and never will be Zab has had ample chance to prove elite status he came up short every time.

Who did Khan and Bradley have a hard time with??Khan clearly beat Maidana on my cards it was not even close(fun but not close on points)..Bradley beat Holt up despite being on the canvas..So who did either have problems with at the weight??Imo those two are a lot better then anyone else at the weight...

Well, Bradley showed he was on an entirely different level than Alexander. Khan showed he was on a different level than Maidana. So you can't put Alexander or Maidana in that top of the division discussion. Kotelnik got dominated by Khan, so you can't say he's in that class either. The only two left are Judah and Matthysse, and I wouldn't say they are on a different level than the fighters mentioned before.
Khan and Bradley have pretty much proven they are clearly the best fighters in the division.
I don’t think anyone at 140lbs can be classed as elite with the exception of maybe Khan and Bradley but I wouldn’t be comfortable in calling them truly elite at this point.
Zab has losses to people far below elite level (so should Alexander for that matter).

I agree no-one is elite as such, but relative to the 140lbers, Khan and Bradley are (if you see what i mean?)
I think if Maidana beats Guerrero then he would have an argument for being called elite.
I would fear more for Khan if he gave Maidana a rematch than against Matthysse. Maidana is a bad bad man who's only intention is to hurt his opponent.
Both would give Khan trouble though.

Who is elite at 140 then??

I'm amazed at how people seem to think Matthyse is a much better boxer than Maidana.
The thing about maidana is he can force people to fight his fight. He did get through to Khan in round 10 and in some spots earlier too. He lost, but it was a competitive fight. He also (even more impressively) pulled Ortiz into the trenches, broke him and stopped him. Matthyse has never done anything of ths sort.
Maidana wouldn't have let Alexander and Judah go the distance the way Matthyse did. He would have forced it better
KOing Ortiz and Hurting Khan badly in FOTY is better than Going about even with Judah/Alexander.
Maidana > Matthyse
Same old routine people see a high K.O ratio and get excited (as unknowable boxing fans often do). Matthysse has K.Oed a lot of nobody's when he stepped up in competition he couldn't get the K.O and he wouldn't against Khan either.
I like Matthysse he is exiting and I believe he should have got the nod against Zab and most definitely against Devon, however if he did have this huge power those fights wouldn't have gone to the score cards in the first place.
Whoooa, holdonaminute bro.Lucas is not just a plodder.he has skill.he boxed evenly with Judah & Alexander,he dropped them both & the majority of people who saw those fights thought he won them. Both decisions were contoversial.
Lucas is a boxer puncher with much more than a sluggers skill. His power is real enough to drop elite fighters with 1 blow.Knockouts don't come as easy when ur fighting world class fighters, but if U drop everone of them u've encountered that speaks for itself.
Khan will most likely never fight Mattysse you are right but that’s the only thing in your post you are right about.
He will never fight him because he lost 2 of his last 3 fights (at least on paper) and is way down the pecking order and off Khans radar.
I agree with ya post Khan is looking forward(s he should)right now,I think Matts lost to Judah I thought the Alexander fight was close so not mad at the decision..But styles make fights bro and Matts style is more like Prescotts then Maidana..I've never seen him fight a fighter like Prescott(a boxer puncher with power)since..And Matts is better then Prescott imo so I give him a good chance..
