why did they end the movie with ward winning the " wbu " title ? i mean , i was expecting the gatti trilogy as the defining moment in his career , not winning some bogus meaningless belt , they made it look sooooo dramatic and important
also , notice how they skipped the part where micky wards is stopped by Vince Phillips for the IBF title , and tried to convince the viewer that the wbu title shot he got was the first time he's given a chance to perform at " the world stage " and to win a world title...
this film = just another fine cliche American drivel being shoved down the viewers throat as being the most wondrous thing since sliced bread
Its the kind of boxing film for the "mike tyson" kinda of boxing fan..storyline was pretty standard hollywood with its love story, up and downs in career, druggy brother etc etc. They are making the fighter 2 which covers the gatti fights but..i dont see what they would show to make it more interesting. Just show the 3 fights together and call that the film.
I haven't seen the film, and probably won't either, because I don't like Mark Wahlberg. I personally think he's one of the worst actors around. LOL
But Mark's awesome. "LOL"

I saw this movie a few months ago and I also didnt like it. I think it wasnt total ****, but it wasnt really good either. I never understood why pple were hyping this movie so much. I think Christian Bale deserved the Oscar though
The movie was about family more than anything else. Great acting... Didn't love the fight scenes too much because there were pushing more to the realism of the camera positions than really getting creative with it. It's a great flick in my opinion, not one of the best, but pretty good.
The movie was ok but it sure as hell wasn't all that. People blew it up into something it wasn't. Ok story, crappy fight scenes and just an average job all the way around. I watched it once, probably watch it once more before I'm dead, but not much more then that.
Wildly overrated film. The direction and acting performances are good but the story kind of sucked.
basically, it went by pretty quick too. not a lot of character buildup or development. even the last rocky film worked so much better, both as a movie and a boxing movie.

They're saving that for 'The Fighter 2', or so i have read.
I wouldn't go as far as saying the movie sucked but I wasn't that impressed by it. I felt more let down by the ending if anything but Bale's performance was awesome, Adams & Wahlberg did a stand up job.
The boxing that was shown was a bit of a let down though, definitely thought this needed improving.
Great movie with great performances.
The relationship between Ward and Dicky is far more important than the title won at the end.
Bale deserved every award he won including the Oscar.
Firstly, I bet that 'title' means a hell of a lot more to Ward than to us boxing fans.
Secondly if there was no mission to accomplish at the end you would have felt cheated as a movie fan. A boxing movie needs a title to be won. If it broke convention you would be p*ssed.
