Hes a GREAT commentator but his rambling about Paul Williams needing to retire and taking unnecessary punishment were laughable considering the source. Anybody catch that?
He did his job and spoke the truth as a commentator, what was he supposef to do? Talk about how its no big deal?
I agree. It's just the glaring irony made the comments quite humorous.
Seriously. And he said it as if his own career wasn't playing through his mind the entire time he was speaking. The brain damage must be worst than I had thought.
i wish they wouldve stopped name dropping Martinez every time a left hand would land... that was just as embarrassing as RJJ talking bout PW needs to retire
Why'd he make a fool out of himself??For being concerned for another fighters welfare??Roy may get KO'd and really should be hanging them up,but Roy has more skill in big toe then Paul has in his whole body..Roy did not make a fool out of himself he showed compassion on another fighter who was taking a beating that was un called for..I also think he seen that Paul was fighting blind, his trainer could not advise him on how to get away from a solid right hand at all..Long story short it looked dangerous,I've never felt the way I felt in Paul's last two fights when I watch Roy Jones..Jones has every right to say what he said because he's boxed and he has been KO'd,and anybody with two eye's should have seen the punishment Paul was taking was not safe and a bit pointless..
Roy's chin couldn't take the flush shots Paul got tagged with....plus you not hitting Roy with the SAME shot all night long...hell no!!!....so Roy wasn't talkin crazy...not sayin he need to keep fighting because he's supposed to be getting fat and ready to be inducted in the HOF...first ballot!!!...but I can't say he was hypocritical...then again, maybe he was...but in a minor way :cool2:
I think RJJ was just being truthful. From his own personal experience he doesn't want to see another fighter hurt. I think that was great advice specially since Pwill corner don't seem to see it as a big problem. I wouldn't mind seeing Pwill call it a night before he gets more hurt and I also wouldn't mind seeing Antillon calling it quits either. That guy is way too damage n you can already see signs of deterioration from all the shots he takes.
I don't care about that. You know why? Because he's the only one who kept saying his was the same old Williams we've seen. Because it was. He's always been that easy to hit. He's always been able to take it. Quintana did this 5 years ago. It's like people forget.
I don't care how any wants to spin his comments around to make him look better. I'm an RJJ nutthugger, he's my favorite fighter and all. But that was just a horrible comment considering who said it. The comment itself wasn't off at all, it's the 100% truth, RJJ was speaking the truth throughout the whole broadcast last night, he was on point with everything he said, best commentator there as far as actual boxing-talk goes. But that comment coming from him was just...S M H...Take your own advice my dude.
Williams' trainer is terrible. He makes no changes since the Martinez fight. Don't be surprised to have the same result then.
Williams' height is such a waste. Imagine him with a solid jab and straight left. He would be a nightmare. If he was trained by someone like the Mayweathers, he would be scary.
Its not that simple. Dont you think various trainers will of tried to MAKE Williams use his height? Williams just doesn't have a good sense of how to fight from that distance, and its not the kind of thing some fighters can just pick up.
You see what used to happen to Hatton when he was not on his opponents chest, when he used to try and fight from range, he used to get picked apart.
I though Jones' commentary was spot on last night and I think the Papa, Kellerman and Jones team has developed a good chemistry. I'm starting to really enjoy the trio..
However, I did think to myself, Jones' commentary about PWill retiring was like "the teapot calling the kettle black." If anyone is a candidate for retirement it's Roy Jones Jr.
I don't see the problem. Just because he can't make the right decision for his own career doesn't mean it's not a valid opinion. It's always easier to tell other people what to do, then yourself.
I don't have a problem with a murderer condemning murder either, lol. It's still right.

Since the Martinez fight? How about since the first Quintana fight? He fights the exact same way and gets hit by the exact same punch from southpaws.
He needs to stay away from southpaws

how do you think he wasn't telling the truth? A guy who's been unimpressive lately and most thought was going to lose, beat your guy like a Tijuana dime whore and got still got robbed lol. PWill needs to retire because he clearly was a shell of himself tonight. Watch his fights before the loss to Martinez, it's night and day. Sorry if I seem to be lashing out at you, I'm still mad at Shimoda losing. not a good year for Japanese boxing.
