After Martinez knocked out Paul Williams, George Peterson was trying convince people that it was a lucky punch and then went on to say there was nothing he could do to prevent it . And now for the Lara fight, Williams continued to keep his right hand down while Lara landed the same punch Martinez did over and over again. Max Kellerman straight out told Peterson during the infight interview what was wrong and Peterson still could not get it through his head what adjustment Paul Williams needed. What a joke.
The problem isn't Williams. It's his trainer.
Ive never blamed WIlliams for his flaws, its his trainer that always f****d him over. I still think Paul can put in some work, he just needs a new trainer to do it. If he doesnt change trainers, then yea retirement is best IMO...
Peterson is a bum, that said P-Will seems stubborn as hell too. I don't know what a new trainer could do with him, and P-Will looks shot....in the truest sense of the word.
Agree completely. Peterson is TERRIBLE! Terrible! Paul's natural physical gifts are being ignored by this joker and now because of that negligence he's probably been in too many wars to ever be the same again.
This coming from a big PWill fan...
I didnt watch the fight live - I took wifey to go see Horrible Bosses... Funny movie - but I digress. Came back him turned on the TiVo to watch my dude PWill... After the ninth round I turned it off because I was so disappointed in PWills coaching ability... I mean come on??? Does this dude know anything about boxing??? So sad, PWill with a solid coach, could have been really special...
I had him losing the fight after nine rounds 7/2 and that was onl because Lara took those rounds off.
I came onto boxingscene to read about it and I'm at a loss for words???
PWill won??? Travesty to say the least... And this is from a huge PWill fan.
Peace Mo
I know. I was rooting for Williams all the way through and could not in good conscience say it was remotley within reach for him. Lara dominated. This was actually a robery.

I totally agree if Roach can change Mannys bad habits up enough to make him seem great. The P Wills trainer should atleast look for advice to clean up his defensive lapses. It seems P Will needs Emanual Strewart in a bad way. The stand up tall and use the Jab would make him an absolute monster at these weight classes. He needs Mayweather to teach him some defendive dkills. It makes no sense for a guy 6-1 to 6-3 to get hit as much as he does with all of his advanctages.
He is also too young to retire. With his work rate and his advantages he should be near the top of the P4P ranking and he doesnt get enough credit for trying to take the tough fights from whomever will face him. PAC, Floyd and Mosley straigh up avoided this man along with berto. So atleast give him credit for being a tough son of a *****. Margarito also really wanted no part of P Williams.
You know what? I take this back. I just remembered how Emmanuel was gushing about Williams fighting the perfect fight before getting knocked out. He probably would have made the same mistake.
yes he's a retard. he thought williams won round 1 against martinez in the rematch even though martinez was battering him and hurting him.
Emanuel Steward.

I knew Paul needed a new trainer after Matinez not because he lost, but because Peterson basically said he did nothing wrong and it was a lucky shot by Sergio. Max Kellerman asked him during the fight why he wasn't making adjustments for Paul to not get hit with the same punch over and over and Peterson had no intellegent answer.

he's the black Jack Leow
I thought I was gonna hear him say "double the fukking jab Pauly, double the jab" any minute
"double the jab pauly and make sure to have your entire body weight follow through when you hit thin air so you can be easily countered. I am george peterson the best trainer on earth! not even enzo calzaghe is on my level!"
Kellerman's mug was priceless everytime P-Will or his trainer insisted they needed to change nothing. I never thought I'd see a corner that was worse than Cotto's during the Pacquiao fight...I guess Thats why one should never say never. P-Will's corner was beyond bad, letting him take the punishment for 12 rounds was criminal. There will be permanent damage no doubt. Peterson took 30 seconds to climb his old ass into the ring everytime and always said "Let me tell you what he's gonna do....". Dumb ass needed to say "Let me tell you what you have to do....". Lara through 1344333 overhand rights flush to the dome. Everyone watching new what Lara was gonna do next: throw another overhand right stupid a$$. Terrible corner.
Can't teach an old dog new tricks. As much as we like to blame trainers for what their fighter does wrong, you don't think he went over this will Williams a million times in the gym and HE didn't make the adjustment?
From what I heard he was telling exactly what to do to avoid the left hand and he still couldn't do it.
P. Will is done folks, sorry to break the news.

Add Berto to the list of fighters that need a new trainer working their corner. I can understand wanting to be loyal to your trainer, but there has to come a point where their management has to step in and make these guys realize something needs to be changed.
