Rusty and dumb.
And he was fighting a very quick counter puncher.
Style wise, this fight was all wrong for PW.
Kinda like Molina was wrong for Kermit.
PW needs to fight fighters like Wolak, K9 or Angulo.
Not a lot guys fight like Lara or Martinez.
I admittedly underestimated Lara.
I thought Paul's volume and being the agressor would possibly get him the nod and it did. Lara's potshotting with the left was very effective but it didn't really affect Paul all that much. Paul should easily be able to anticipate that punch, jab and feint a little and land some hard punches on that little squirt. He definitely fought the wrong game plan and did not adjust after he started getting potshotted, I don't see it as a robbery, Lara just did way better then anyone expected.
I am a fan of both fighters, been a Paul fan a little longer. I can honestly say Paul "In my eyes" lost that fight tonight. It was the 1st fight that I've been able to see in theater, and I have said this time and time again. Paul needs ti switch trainers, plain and simple. No disrespect to Mr. Peterson, but he has brought Paul as far as he can. But it is not entirely on his camp. Look back at Paul's earlier fights even all the way up to Winky, Paul moved his head a whole lot more than he does now. He didnt effectively cut off the ring like he should have(And George made no mention of telling Paul how to correctly do so during the fight), Paul kept leaning to one side and moving back in a straight line. I did see Paul make adjustments to his defense to a degree. He was made a concerted effort to keep his left hand up, but that was all. Why didnt George tell Paul "Son, your circling right into the gotdamn left hand. Move to YOUR Left."?
But Paul is far too loyal to change trainers so this will be the extent to Paul's growth as a Boxer. But Paul seriously needs someone to take him past the level he used to be at, cause he has regressed as a fighter IMHO by keeping George Peterson on as his Chief 2nd.

there is no style kryptonite for 6,2" guy fighting in WW or SWW division, just look back at Pwill-quintana 2, i know is quick but Pwill use his height advantage and he win.

This was about 2 hours ago or something, right after the fight:
I was at my pops house, so I didn't see any of that. I am late to the party per say.
You pointed out that Williams looking really bad against southpaws is a common excuse. Well it's not just a common excuse, it's the truth, he gets hit more and looks worse against southpaws. I don't know if you have changed you're argument midway, in to that "Williams gets hit a lot in general" which I already agreed with.
I'm defending the fact that Williams having more trouble with southpaws, is not just a "common excuse" and he does look considerably better against orthodox fighters.
If you're just gonna say Williams gets hit a lot, I don't see the point in that, a lot of fighters get hit a lot. I have nothing against you stating that, my argument is you trying to make it seem like both southpaws and orthodox fighters have the same kind of success against Williams.
If you are just saying Williams gets hit a lot by both, well great breaking news, i'll carry on then.
I do find it a common excuse, but you may have a point...Cause even though Mitchell didn't beat Williams, he did land a ton of shots on Paul. Look, I know that it is different fight a southpaw, but Williams gets hit a lot be right handed fighters also. He just hasn't lost to one.
Now if he does (many posters here know that I don't, nor do I like to deal in fantasy) for argument sake. The southpaw talk is dead in the water. At this point, his camp/trainer needs to work on more than just the same head and shoulder movement that Paul does every fight.
I do understand your argument though, based on the words I typed...Also do to the facts to back it. I just find it a common excuse for what is the real problem. That Williams has peaked as a fighter, and is showing no signs of improvement.
Not to mention he is very one dimensional.

I'm a big Paul Williams fan, but this fight just made me sick. I'm literally sick right now, my head hurts, i'm saddened and feel for Lara. Why get a rematch over some one you clearly beat? It was at least 9 rounds to 3 Lara, but if you're not giving any pitty rounds, it was 10-2 or 11-1 for Lara. Horrible decision, I would say the higher ups in boxing should do something about this, but Al Haymon IS one of the higher ups in boxing. In fact he's one of the top 3 most powerful figures in the sport of boxing, behind twp promotional companies, GBP and TR. AND, you can argue Al Haymon is even stronger than GBP, because Lara is a GBP fighter, yet the Haymon fighter got the nod. Disgraceful, and shameful of Paul Williams to not admit defeat.
Okay...So what are you saying exactly?...
What exactly are you defending here?

Of course he gets hit a lot, this is boxing. Cotto gets hit a lot, Margarito gets hit a lot, Pacquiao get hit a lot, Froch gets hit a lot, Rios gets hit a lot, Alexander gets hit a lot, Arreola gets hit a lot, Maidana gets hit a lot, Marquez gets hit a lot, JM Lopez gets hit a lot, Pascal gets hit a lot, Cloud gets hit a lot...In boxing, you're gonna get hit a lot.
Are there exceptions? Of course, a few, but yeah there are exceptions. Mayweather, Hopkins, both Klitschko brothers, Ward, and to a lesser extant guys like Bradley and Gamboa due to their styles, respectively, they don't get his very often. Maybe Gamboa has a problem getting knocked down when he does get his flush, but he doesn't get hit often, for now, because he's so elusive. Bradley has gotten hit flush a few times, went down against Holt, but ultimately is hard to hit him cleanly.
In the end, a lot of fighters "get hit a lot". But to get back to the main topic, the guys that hit Williams the most, are southpaws. But if you're gonna just say Williams always got hit a lot, well, a lot of fighters always get hit a lot.
Okay...So what are you saying exactly?...
I was pointing out that Williams take a lot of shots from righty's and lefty's.
Do you think Williams won this fight? Do you think that his problems (as far as defense) come straight from his camp?
What exactly are you defending here?
If it is the fact that the fighters that have beat him, or have given him the most trouble are southpaws...Okay. I know that. They also did more than just have a southpaw style (as stated in previous post).
The point is, he gets hit by not only straight lefts and overhand lefts. His trainer needs to work on somethings with Paul. Not just coming into a fight looking to overwhelm fighters.
Paul has been the same fighter over and over, doesn't matter the style he fights.
Yep. PW kept smothering himself.
I remember when he would stay at arms length and trade(Martinez one)
This fight Lara would catch him and he would get to close and throw pitty pat punches.
That sh$t was annoying.
Williams biggest problem is his training, and the pride in his camp. For his next couple of fights, or how ever long he decides to fights, his camp need to work on some sort of high guard or something.
Something to block punches with his gloves, rather than his face.
i think he just didn't learn his lesson from getting KO'ed by martinez. he has always sort of fought like that, it's just that he chose to not change things for the better, and lara showed how to beat williams...it's a shame too cause williams could be one of the best if he worked on his flaws.
Williams gets hit a lot no matter who he fights.

I will have to see what he does in his next fight (if it is against an orthodox fighter) before I make that judgement.
Cause besides being southpaws, one thing Martinez,CQ (1), and Lara did against Williams was use a bit of footwork. They all stayed at long ranged.
Like I said in my previous post, Paul was wide open for the right hands as well.

He's always had this problem and his bone headed trainer needs to see reality.
And he should probably stay away from lefties for awhile.
Stay the hell away from Martinez.
Early grave.

I'm about to rewatch the fight in half an hour. I heard about the robbery driving home, but I wouldn't doubt it in the least bit. Lara is a good puncher and he's a south paw. Williams main weakness is straight left hands. I loved trolling the William fans. Did Williams change his style in anyway? Did he improve his defense?
Did he change his style? NO ... Did he improve his defence? NO ... Anyway just see it yourself and you'll realize why is everyone so mad...

That is really the problem...
I have nothing but love for Williams, and the fact that he brings it every fight, but his chin will only last so long.
Even with a great chin, the man takes far to many shots.

I agree with the problems in training camp.
To much pride.
The guy even said that he's going to continue fighting the same way and that he wants Martinez ... c'mon, the guy would get brutalized and the fight will end again during the first 2 rounds with a brutal KO from Martinez.
