Floyd Mayweather FloydMayweather
Mayweather Vs. Ortiz tickets went on sale today and sold 12,000 seats already. Its only 3,000 left better hurry. #StarPower
DAMN Amazing! oh wait, Adamek can do 10-15k by himself, Wlad/Vitali do 50k+ by themselves.
Remind me why this is such big news that it warrants its own thread? I would have expected it to be sold out much much faster, if it was Andre Berto - FMJ it would have 5000 people there with 2500 free tickets.
Mexicans probably bought most of the tickets.
it's funny they can sell out soccer stadiums but Floyd makes more money a fight then them lol... sucks for them
It cracks me the fuck up that the thread starter posted something from Mayweather's twitter account, with NO mention of Pacquiao whatsoever, and Pacquiao fanboys instantly go into defense mode, and start defending Pacquiao.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has you shook. The fact that you try to deny it is comical.
true, but hes fighting people floyd has beaten within a matter of months, and yet and still he cant keep up with the sales....
Indeed. Simply put, Floyd mayweather Jr. is the biggest attraction in the sport.
This fight IS NOT truthfully close to a sell out yet.
Don't get me wrong, this fight will sell out(it does not hurt to have saul alverez fighting on the undercard)
The brokers(scalpers) bought a lot more tickets then they normally do. that's why its close to a sell out already. There has to be a way to get people together and fight this bullsh@t. Ticketmaster says it does not support ticket scalping, but then sells a lot of the tickets to brokers who in turn sell them for a increased price.
Here are some numbers that has a direct correlation to PPV numbers:
African/American - 39 million Filipinos (in the U.S.) - 3.5 million
Floyd/Shane (both African/Americans) PPV - 1.4 million
Pac/Shane PPV - 1.3 million
Based on population ratios, the Floyd/Shane fight should have done at least ten times more than Pac/Shane, or 13 million PPVs. The conclusion, the Pac/Shane fight actually did very well considering the small number of Filipinos in the U.S..
IMHO using a statistical algorithm to assess who will support a fighter based on race is as useless as using one to determine who will like watermelons. While many Filipinos may love Pacquiao not all of them can or will order a fight, the same goes with Mayweather as it pertains to blacks. The mystery behind the PPV numbers rests not with Filipinos or blacks but with Bob Arum and the fact that he keeps making fights with Pacquiao that are unattractive to fight fans. Yes, fans want to see Pacquiao fight, he's exciting but there is a limit to what they will accept as a legitimate fight and the PPV numbers reflect that, nothing more.
But Ortiz vs Pac = Ortiz is a Warrior, and would be able to go toe to toe with the Great Pacman.

:bottle: Stop.
TruthMatters go to hell....
No. It didn't sell out in three hours! But it did end up selling 16,000 tickets compared to 13,000 tickets for the Mayweather/Mosley fight. However, before you start to gloat, think about this: those 16,000 tickets that Pac sold generated a live gate of $8.5 million compared to a live gate of $13 million for the 13,000 tickets sold for Mayweather/Mosley. What that means is that half the tickets sold to the Pac/Mosley fight cost about the same amount of money that I would pay to see a minor league baseball game in Nashville, TN.
man that hurts.....poor pactards......the true is fans pay more to watch floy fights....

Poochies fans are upset cause once again Floyd will have the highest selling PPV and live gate I know it hurts.

http://fighthype.com/pages/content10078.html , i even took this from a pro floyd website , now go back to being an idiot
The article you linked to does not have an official tally, even more importantly the title comes with a question mark at the end: "Pacquiao Vs. Mosley Generates 1.3 Million PPV Buys?" Even more, the writer Ben Thompson muses on the reliability of the numbers given the fact that it has taken so long to make them official. He also goes on to point out that the Pacquiao/Mosley bout was uncharacteristically offered for sale a day after the fight was over.
So the link does not prove your point at all, it actually undermines it.
mayweather vs mosley without cbs 1.4million buys, official, u mad?
You forgot to mention that it was also available online, as well.... Pacquiao-Mosley that is.
da mafia
its my dream to watch a Mayweather fight, hopefully he fights Khan in England one day, his geting old though
I can see that one heading to England, its a huge fight there... am praying for pac fight to be staged in South Africa Mandela land:boxing:.
we are still waiting the link.....
I think the fact that no official number has been released speaks to Arum's pride and embarrassment of how far short the fight fell from expectations. Personally, I thought, as I have with several of Manny's fights, that it wasn't worth making. Certainly there's always dollars to be made from a marquee fighter, even from fights that are clearly not going to be competitive but it seems to me there are far more worthy/younger fighters out there that will pose a challenge, but maybe that's the point. Move the Pacquiao gravy train along smoothly without hitting a bump, that way the managing interests in his contract continue to make money.
PBF has managed his career with utter finesse and IMHO is a model for other fighters to take control of their careers ahead of greedy business interests.
