Been seeing a few posters state this. Basically saying that JMM must weigh in at least 144.
Forgive me for being naive if this is false, I've been away from boxing for quite some time.
But if it is indeed true I would like a thorough explanation.

bro, it only means that both fighters can come in no heavier than 144 lbs, BUT can come in at any weight BELOW 144.
just like Manny vs Margarito at 150, pac came in at 144, but Marg went in at 150.

The max weight is 144, not that they need to be exactly at 144
actually the 144 limit is for PAC as his last 4 fights for the past 3 years, he is weighing 144-145 at the official scales, JMM can come in anyweight below that ...
I hope that Team Marquez guide JuanMa to be at around 144-145 fight night ...

Well, as the fight is going to be at a 144 catchweight limit, Marquez should weight IMO at least 142 at the moment of the weight in.
Some guys have been saying that JMM should come to the weight in at his normal weight, which is 135 pounds, because at fight night he'll be about the same weight as Pacquiao or even heavier, at 146 or 147 pounds. I disagree.
Let me explain why. The weight that matter the most in this case is not the fight night weight, but the weight that the boxer has during the weight in. Let's analize both cases.
1. Marquez gets at the weight in at 135 pounds, and rehydrates about 10-12 pounds, so at fight night he'll be 145-147, about the same as Pacquiao. Most likely, he'll be fast as we've ever seen him, but he's not going to be very strong and it's likely that he won't be able to handle Pacquiao's power.
2. Marquez gets at the weight in at 142 or 143 pounds, and he only rehydrates a few pounds, so during fight night he'll be 148-150 pounds. He's not going to be as fast as we have seen before, but he's going to hit harder and he's going to be able to take better the shots from Pacquiao.
So what's the difference between number 1 and number 2, since at fight night he's going to weight almost the same. Well the difference is his body composition.
If Marquez trains to be 135 during fight night, that means that he should be training lighter than he could be training if he wanted to be at 142 during weight in. Right now Marquez's body is used to have a certain amount of muscle, and because of that his body is now able to use all the muscles in an optimal way, that means he's able to throw fast punches. However, if Marquez decides to have a 142 pounds during weight in, he's going to pack some more muscle mass during training, so he's going to be slower because his body is not used to have that amount of muscle mass. Since there's not a lot of time before the fight (yeah, actually 5 months is not a long time) he must train mainly for one thing, which is power. While gaining more muscle mass will help Marquez to throw harder punches, he wont be able to throw them as fast as he normally does. The negative side of this, is that Marquez doesn't has enough time to train for proper speed.
So in the end the main difference between Marquez and Pacquiao, even if they both weight the same at fight night, is that since Pacquiao has been fighting at WW for some time, his body is fully used to have 144 pounds on, so now he's better at improving speed. Marquez on the other hand is not used to weight that much, so he's surely not going to be as fast as he could be. If he had one year or something fighting at that weight, then Marquez would be a lot more efficient with speed, but that's not the case right now.
So well finally he should be 142-143 because if he's not , he wont be able to stand Pacquiao shots and won't be able to hurt him
There's a lot of difference between:
Being 135 during weight in, and then rehydrating to 147 (12 pounds more of WATER)
and
Being 142 during weight in, and then rehydrating to 148 (only 6 pounds of WATER, which means that he has more muscle)
