He's like a substitute teacher...it always seems as if he doesn't wanna be there.
I really hope Lampley is the lead for Haye vs. Wlad on HBO this Saturday.
I'd rather have papa being neutral and doing a solid job than lampley's slobbering over his favorites and calling a fight completely biased
^^^^Absolutely THIS^^^^
You can't hardly watch boxing anymore without having to hit the MUTE button. Far too many of these commentators go so far off the map talking about other $hit, and what happened to who last week - DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE FUKKING ACTION - that they're actually missing whats going on in the ring entirely. I've even heard some of these commentators, like Lampley and Atlas, who literally seem annoyed that their stories have been interupted by something important going on in the ring. How dare the fighters do that to them! How rude! :nonono: LOL.
Both Curt Menefee and Gus Johnson are incredibly annoying as well. Gus, with his screaming "HE'S HURT!! HE'S HURT!!", everytime a fighter lands a punch. He needs to go back to or just stay with Strikeforce. And Curt is incredibly inaccurate and a glorified 'yes' man. I don't think I've ever heard him disagree with his co-commentators (although Farhood is pretty accurate) and he must be blind in one eye and glaucoma in the other, because he's constantly reporting what just happened in the ring inaccurately. He must have those swimmers goggles, you know - the kind that you can make out shapes and sizes but you can't see clearly enough to read anything. Example: 'Joe' attempts a JAB to the body of 'Jack', which misses, and 'Jack' counters with a left hook to the temple followed by a straight right to the chin. Curt announces: "Oooh, great body shot by 'Joe'!!" :nonono:
So to summarize, I'd say that Bob Papa is actually one of the better ones out there today. I'll take "boring" over the "super slatherers" any day. :boxing:
I like Bob Papa :). He's objective and fair. Lampley i like for nostalgia. Merchant i can't stand. Jones i like a hell of a lot, even more than Tarver.
I like his objective point of view, it reminds me of the showtime team who i prefer to listen to. At the same time, theres something about the HBO boys who give fights that big-time feel.
Bob Papa and the Transvestite from Showtime are just generic sports commentators, they arent good at one sport they are just mediocre on all sports.
I still prefer Bob Papa to that transvestite from Showtime who wears lipstick

He does sound super boring.
