I don't know how to put up a poll yet but just reply with your answer. I think the biggest debate is was it a gift or a robbery. It was a fun competitive fight and probably would have been a fight of the year candidate if not for the bad decision but I tend to think if everybody in the whole world besides Fat Dan and the judges think Devon lost then it's a robbery since nobody can come up with a reasonable debate of Devon actually deserving the win.
Should have been 12 rounds though. Crazy how a 10 rounder main events after like 5 straight 12 rounders.
Did you see the 9th round? Alexander won that beyond clearly. I gave Lucas the 7th VERY cleary.
Every round besides those 2 were close.
No, I chose to not watch that round.
Of course I watched Round 9; the sole round that was clearly won by Alexander.
Every round besides that round was not close and the ones that were close Mattysse outworked him anyway.
Alexander lost the fight, 98% of both this forum and ESB believe this.
I would say no not a robbery,I had Lucas winning by a rd but in a fight that close you can't really call robbery..But I think everyone including Devon himself knew he lost that fight..He was more beat up,he also was backing up and not engaging in the Championship rds..Devon got a hometown decision for sure but I don't think you can call it a robbery..I know it does not really make sense but just how I feel..
I agree 100% great post. I had it 95-94 for Lucas. So how can I cry about a robbery? Obviously the fight was close.

i dont usually go by the compubox, but when one fighter is scoring the heavier, more meaningful shots i like to compare. not only did Lucas outpunch Alexander, but he was connecting with the heavier shots. please explain how someone loses in this position.
Alexander hardly won a single round convincingly.
Going into round 6 I said to myself; I bet this will be another Don King robbery.

Another robbery for Alexander. 7 rounds to 3 Mathysse. It was probably worse than the Kotelnik robbbery.
I thought the Kotelnik fight was worse. Even in the close rounds Alexander won in that fight Kotelnik landed better punches.
Robbery. Just like with the Kotelnik fight, where there were 7 rounds Kotelnik clearly won, there were 5 rounds Matthysse clearly won. Add in the knockdown and there's no way you can argue Alexander won, and I don't think you can even argue he earned a draw.
I can't see any argument that Alexander won enough rounds to even pull a draw, let alone win.
It was close but clear. Matthysse deserved the decision clearly despite the fact that it's difficult to give it to him by more than a couple of rounds. As a few other posters have said, it's clear that he won at least five of the ten rounds and therefore when you take into account the knockdown, it should make it a close but clear decision in Matthysse's favour.
It was close fight TBH. I agree with Lederman card 95-94 for Mathysse. Rounds 4,7,8,10 were clearly after Mathysse and all other rounds were close, where edge always goes to hometown boxer.
Matthysse won this fight. I actually feel kind of bad for the guy, he's now lost two close SDs against fighters in their hometowns (well, almost for Judah at least) in fights where I had him winning both.
Alexander on the other hand, has now gotten his second gift. That all judges scored the Kotelnik-fight 116-112 was a joke, this was too.
This fight confirmed to me that Alexander will never be great, which I was pretty sure of after the Kotelnik and Bradley fights, but now I'm certain.
I thought that two of the judges scorecard of 96-93 is just crazy...Neither fighter won that fight by 3 rounds/points. 95-94 was a perfect score for either fighter. And although I scored it 95-94 for Mathysse....this fight in no-way was a Robbery. People used the word "Robbery" so much...and most times it's only used when the fighter they DON'T LIKE wins...that doesn't make it a Robbery.
Completley agree with this post.
i would call it a robbery just because this has happened with alexander in st. louis before and pretty much everyone knew going in that matthysse could only win by knockout
