Cons:
1) no body attack worth speaking of
2) reaches with left and sometimes throws it too slow
3) keeps his hands down when trading inside
4) chinny whem he doesnt see the punch coming
5) all adds up to counterable
6) decent at best at cutting off the ring
7) very little pop on jab
Pros:
1) strong ww, was im the wrong weight class prior
2) beautiful right uppercut, throws it off the hook too, nice left upper cut too
3) pop and lots of it
4) speed to land short lefts
5) southpaw
6) activity and good mid range game where he's much harder to counter
7) keeps coming after getting hit...tough to potshot
In other words, i think he can make the floyd fight interesting but i dont see him being able to slow floyd down enough to catch him, amd floyd will put him down with a counter at least once in the fight. I think floyd will outclas him by the 8th and sweep the last 4. Ortiz will win a couple early rounds. Floyd wins in a 7-5 ish fight in rounds but wins by more points cuz he should get a kd or two.
This is a fight where i could see floyd gettimg kd'd though and i will reiterate that i think it was a strong move by floyd to come back with an ortiz fight. I'm very interested in this fight and will definitely be buying the ppv.
All
It was in the later rounds, Ortiz was throwing plenty of straight lefts to the pit of Berto's stomach whenever he had the chance, its just that the fight got ugly towards the end cause of the clinches.
Thats what im saying, he didnt even look at the body until around the 8th. Like i said, nothing special.

Yeah, Ortiz needs to go to the body more overall though.
I don't remember that at all...I was screaming that If Ortiz would have went to the body, he might have got rid of Berto...
97% of the work (effective work) Ortiz did was up stairs. When he did finally go to the body (in the later rounds) in the fight, he was not very effective...
He had Berto against the ropes all night, and would not go to the body. I remember his corner telling him to attack the body only once...Twice at the most.
One of the biggest faults I find with Ortiz is, his lack of a body attack.

floyd is stopping ortiz or at least beating him bad. people giving ortiz chance now by end of the fight new excuses like he was never ready his berto fight was lucky maidana already beat him up he drew with peterson he was never good hes too green blah blah blah
Dont agree with that, He worked Berto's body every round. Thats why Berto slowed down.

Ortiz does set up punches, or at least throws smart combos on the inside. He looks like he doesnt set amything up because he's always used athleticism to get inside cuz he has no jab. But if he getS in, he throws accurate and smart combos.
He's gonna have to work real hard to get inside, but he csn do something there i think. I still think floyd wins by 3-5 pts.
true you think Floyd would lay in the ropes and do his shoulder roll against Ortiz
Ortiz cons:
- can get lazy in the ring
- can get sloppy with defense
- can get discouraged
- can get frustrated
- can get outboxed
- doesn't set up his punches, but just throws punches to punch
Ortiz pros:
- good power
- good speed
- decent durability (but given wifebeater isn't a KO artist, it's not that bad)
- good size and strength
- good reflexes
As you can see, ortiz's problems all come from the mental side of boxing, not the physical side. ortiz is an incredible athlete, but he's not a schooled and skilled boxer.
If you can avoid brawling with him, and you can take the occasional punch that he will land, you can beat him.

He didnt work the body until maybe late fight. Berto slowed in the first 2 rds cuz the kd's took his legs (obviously). His second wind ran out later in the fight.
