Ok. Heres what confuses me. Maidana Knocks out Ortiz, then he fights Nate Campball and Vivian Harris and defeats them. That I understand, Harris and Campball are not as good as Marcos Maidana. But then He Destroys Andre Berto. I think Berto could CRIPPLE Maidana. Now the rookie who lost to Maidana is fighting a fight against a TOP 10 P4P fighter ( Mayweather ). How could he have destroyed Andre Berto and is supposed to put up a fight with Floyd, if he was KOed by Maidana? Was that fight like upset of the decade? I hope maybe a rematch one day? Now I see Ortiz by a widespread UD. People must overrate Ortiz for putting him in with Floyd. MSG TO Floyd: Pick on someone your own skill, Sergio Martinez, Manny Pacquiao, Hell at this point i will even settle for Paul Williams or Antonio Margarito. Ortiz is still Green as Grass.
Because he grew balls. He's no longer scared to take a shot. You could see it in the 6th round. Even when he was in trouble, he still bounced back.
I agree. He seemed to make a mental switch in the Berto fight. As if something told him "Come on, Vic! Fight back or die trying!" He refused to be intimidated by Berto and turned on the hidden killer instinct he didn't realize he had.
He appeared more focused on pulling off the victory and the rest is history.
Different types of fighter.
Personally, I think Ortiz' mindset was different... he wanted to win, he needed to win, he wouldn't be denied... coupled with the fact putting on some weight gave him a lot more fuel and firepower.
^^^Basically, both. Styles make fights, Maidana, versus Ortiz, "wouldn't be denied," Ortiz more or less adopted that same mindset versus Berto. Plus give Maidana his props, for example, look at the way he went down against Khan, that was 2 brutal body shots, it probably took him another 4-5 rounds just to recover, but he went through till the end, it's in his head to keep fighting. Ortiz knocked both guys down, but Maidana never appeared hurt as Berto did. Maidana kept coming, took Ortiz out of his comfort zone and fought at his pace. I'd love to see both rematches though.
berto cripples maidana? I don't know about that. What i do know is that maidana is a tough s.o.b. Although he might not be a great technical boxer, what he excels at is being able to pressure fighters with hard and heavy punches. As a result, Maidana just wore Ortiz down (physically and mentally) where as Berto really had no answers for Ortiz.
Because human beings are not robots and some have good days and bad days...
I never understood why people can't understand this.
What he said. You guys act like one fight constitutes his whole character. Anybody can say once a quitter always a quitter but it is up to that man to decide the end results. Hell, I personally think people calling him a quitter actually made him fight like that in the Berto fight. He proved you guys wrong because only HE knows what he is capable of, not the critics.
1. Ortiz did not get slapped around by Maiadana. It was a back and forth all out war until the stoppage.
2. Ortiz did not destroy Andre Berto. The fight was still on the table by the 10th round IMO. The judges scorecards were all pretty close and rightfully so, because that was a back and forth fight, except for the rounds where Berto was laying on the ropes like a dumbass, which were about 4 rounds. I had it Ortiz 7-5. Ortiz dominated his rounds way better than Berto won his rounds. So it was not a blow out win for Ortiz. Blow out wins don't make it to top 3 FOTY candidate, and for me so far it's been the best fight this year.
I agree with u man, I don't know why people act like Berto *****ed out they bought fought hard and showed heart it was a good fight
Those protein shakes are spreading like ants on sugar and I don't doubt for a second that Ortiz is another juicer on the sport. HEY, if it works for the #1 P4P, makes millions.. I can't say I wouldn't.
I feel like Ortiz would've beaten Maidana if he hadn't quit, or if he would have just stuck to his game plan instead of getting into a street fight.
Absolutely, he got sloppy. He went into that fight with the mindset: "I am going to win because I am better than him". When you are an untested young fighter, that mindset will be the end of you. When he fought Berto, he had the mindset of "I'm going to win because I worked harder, want it more, and won't ever stop coming for it."

Ortiz wasn't there mentally in the Maidana fight, it was the first time he dealt with that type of situation, had he been mentally stronger he could've maybe stopped Maidana or beat him by UD, he just gave up. In the Berto fight, Ortiz knew it would be a now or never to prove himself and he did, in the Mayweather fight, it will be another big test, if he is mentally strong like the Berto fight he could give Mayweather trouble, not saying that he will win but at least give him trouble. If he is like in the Maidana fight, he will get bamboozled in the ring.
Plus Maidana was a no name opponent since they couldn't get the kotelnik fight people seem to forget that Ortiz was supposed to run through him and Marcos wasn't supposed to be a real challenge. Ortiz was younger and not really prepared for a war he changed after that fight

I agree with this. Just watching him walk in it looked like he came from hell to beat berto. I got the impression the whole fight that Ortiz simply wouldn't allow himself to lose.
Berto never really had solid power, he was just always so much faster then his opponents that he would overwelm them. Ortiz is almost as fast as Berto with power.
Triangle theories are as about as intelligent as conspiracy theories. They don't work, have never worked, and will never work. The only way to find out how two men would fair against each other is to have them fight. All this he beat him and that guy beat this guy doesn't mean sh1t when u step in that ring. Styles make fights
