2011 - Sergio Martinez, Canelo, Nonito Donaire, Ward, Froch contesting this one so far however someone who cause a big upset could win it though
2010 - Sergio Martinez
2009 - Manny Pacquiao
2008 - Manny Pacquiao
2007 - Miguel Cotto
2006 - Manny Pacquaio
2005 - Ricky Hatton
2004 - B Hopkins
2003 - Roy Jones
2002 - Vernon Forrest
2001 - Floyd Mayweather
2000 - Shane Mosley
I thought about Taylor for 2005, but didn't want to look more biased than I already look, so I went ahead with Hatton. It's not that much of an argument that two close wins over an ATG/Future first ballot HOFer like Hopkins is better than wins over Tszyu and Maussa. Obviously wins over Hopkins beats anything that year. But I picked Hatton I already said why.
For 2011 candidates I forgot to add Chad Dawson with wins over Diaconu and Hopkins.
I would also say Vitali with wins over Solis and Adamek, but he didn't exactly "beat" Solis.
Also in 2009 if you want to pick Pacquiao over Williams, that would be okay too. I just thought Winky/Martinez>Hatton/Cotto.
2011 - Probably Canelo so far. Froch a close 2nd.
2010 - Sergio Martinez
2009 - Manny Pacquiao
2008 - Manny Pacquiao
2007 - Miguel Cotto
2006 - Winky Wright
2005 - Jermain Taylor
2004 - Glenn Johnson get some love for beating Jones & Tarver
2003 - Roy Jones
2002 - Vernon Forrest
2001 - Bernard Hopkins
2000 - Shane Mosley
for what? both of his wins are against less than stellar opponents
for this year I would say the front runners should be
Ortiz- if he beats Mayweather he wins it hands down
Hopkins- if he beats Dawson I would say he is the clear cut favorite
The winner of Ward/Froch
Salido- 2 wins over Juan Ma
Okay, in my opinion, meaning with my scorecards and all of that other good stuff like who was the fighter beaten, where were they at the time of their career, where they coming off a loss, etc.
*/ means I would not be mad if you picked the other guy.
2010 - Sergio Martinez
2009 - Paul Williams
2008 - Manny Pacquiao
2007 - Floyd Mayweather Jr
2006 - Floyd Mayweather Jr*/Wladimir Klitschko

2011 - Multiple fighters have potential right now:
Bernard Hopkins with wins over Pascal/Dawson.
Victor Ortiz with wins over Berto/Mayweather.
Andre Ward with wins over Abraham and Froch.
Carl Froch with wins over Glen Johnson and Andre Ward.
Juan Manuel Marquez with wins over Ramos/Pacquiao, mainly because of Pac.
David Haye with wins over Harrison/Wlad.
Zab Judah with Mabuza/Khan.
Tim Bradley with wins over Alexander and another top 140/147 pounder. Nonito Donaire with Montiel/another top BW.
Orlando Salido with wins over Lopez/another top FW.
The possibilities are endless.
Paul Williams with a win over Lara and another top 5 JMW or top 5 MW.
Wladimir Klitschko: With a win over David Haye and Adamek or Arreola.
Guys who are out of the FOTY sweepstakes:
Manny Pacquiao, a win over an old Shane Mosley and potentially JMM at WW does not warrant fighter of the year.
Floyd Mayweather Jr, one win will not get you FOTY IMO, and Floyd has little to no chance at fighting again in 2011 after Ortiz.
Miguel Cotto, a win over Mayorga and potentially Margarito means nothing to me. Period.
Sergio Martinez win over Dzinzuruk was really good, but Darren Barker ruined his chances for me.
2011 - Probably Canelo so far. Froch a close 2nd.
