I was a firm believer that Pacquiao was going to lose to Clottey, I thought Arum f*cked up by putting him in front of Pacquiao at 147 with no advantages. I was a bit sad.
I mean Clottey is durable as f*ck, he has on of the best chins in the sport. He's a massive 147 pounder. He throws good powerfull uppercuts and I thought that if he fought anything close to his fight vs Margarito in the early rounds, he was going to earn Pacquiao's respect. Little did I know Clottey came to "The Event" to cash the biggest check in his life. Whenever he punched Pacquiao I felt that he could have dropped or hurt Pacquiao if he kept going. We were lucky he didn't feel like it.
Now, Victor is dangerous but I think Clottey was more dangerous on paper.
To be honest if it weren't for the Pacquiao vs Cotto fight, no one would have Manny as a heavy favorite over Clottey and I'm confident most would pick Joshua to win.
In all of his losses he was actually winning until he dropped the ball. People bring up Pacquiao's style but Margarito was an extreme volumn puncher, broke a compubox punch record for punches thrown in that fight, and many people still felt Clottey was winning prior to his hand injury.
Again no one had beaten Clottey decisively prior to Manny, so to say he had no chance considering he took a prime Cotto and Margarito to the wire is ridiculous.
Clottey>>>>Ortiz... but neither has a real chance. If Ortiz fought the guys Clottey lost to not only would he have lost those fights but he would have got stopped in each one.
I think Ortiz beats Baldomir but I agree he gets stopped by the Cotto, Margarito and Pacquiao that Clottey faced.
no. anyoboy that has followed clottey knew he had no chance. he nas no 3rd gear. he stays in cruise control all fight. i said it once ance ill say it again, clottey has no winning gene. i dont think he knows how ti win. i dont think he comprehends when he needs to put his foot on the peddle and go for it.
ortiz, u can bet, is gonna try to knock floyd's head off. if his last fight is any indication, hes hungry. that ortiz i saw against berto was better than any clottey ive ever seen as far as killer instinct goes. clottey doesnt have a passion for boxing im convinced. thats partially why he took the money from the manny fight and hasnt been seen in the ring since.
This thread is one of the better discussed threads lately. Many good points made from both sides and less non-sense and dumb posts. Hope other threads will follow the same standards.
In fairness,at the time that Pacman fought Clottey,he was billed as a dangerous welterweight with good size & skill.Even I thought he had a chance. He's a solid win to have on any welterweight resume.Against the most prolific offense below 154,Clottey never had a chance, not Pacman's fault by any means though.
The reasons Ortiz is dangerous to Floyd, has more to do with Floyd than anything else. He's been inactive.Ortiz is young, fresh, hungry & coming off of a career defining win.I agree with Stewart when he said that the Victor Ortiz that beat Berto would be a rough night for anyone,Floyd or Pacman included.I'm pulling for the upset,Ortiz has the tools to beat Floyd. The only thing that is really gonna prevent that is Floyd's stamina. If it's 1 thing that I would say Floyd & Manny have over almost any other welterweight is their amazing stamina. They can afford to make mistakes early in fights because they're conditioned to fight for 20 rounds. The average welterweight is spent after 8.Ortiz is gonna have to train like he's preparing for a marathon, otherwise he gasses & gets draped up late.
Agreed........
imho, Floyd may be rusty but he rarely makes mistakes and he knows what to do when hit hard, guys what odds are you giving for Floyd vs. Ortiz?
I am for Floyd, I am giving 10-1 odds for an Ortiz decision victory, 20-1 odds for an Ortiz KO, that's for BS points, but for real money probably 5-1 is good?
just like to know how much weight do you believe Ortiz chances are?
Clottey>>>>Ortiz... but neither has a real chance. If Ortiz fought the guys Clottey lost to not only would he have lost those fights but he would have got stopped in each one.
No. Pacquiao was coming off the second best win of his career, at the absolute peak of his powers, against a guy who did not have a style that could beat him. Ortiz has a chance due to his size, power, and stance that he can catch a rusty Floyd off guard.

Ortiz has no chance vs Floyd
Clottey had no chance against Pac
not that Ortiz and Clottey suck
Pac and Floyd are just far too good for them
I think you nailed it bro ...
nice post!
actually Clottey supposed to have the same threat level as Cotto, prior Pac fighting Miguel, Clottey had a close fight with Miguel, some poster's here claiming the he beat Cotto...
would have been a better fight if Clottey opened up more as he did touched up Pac a little bit...
I thought Clottey had a chance of causing an upset but change my mind when I saw the way he was thanking Pac at all the pressers, seems like he couldn't get over the fact that he was getting a well paid fight, the atmosphere was great but the fight was a let down, we still have to wait and see if Ortiz doesn't do a Clottey and just free.
Clottey had virtually no chance at all against Pac, he's not going to win considering his style via KO or decision - the guy could've won against a cut up Cotto. Ortiz has a chance against Mayweather, he's more powerful and is a southpaw, who knows what Mayweather will look like he's been off for quite some time.
well one fight happened and one didn't, so idk, but if you really wanna look at it:
clottey lost to cotto, someone pac just beat
they wanted mayweather, but they chose clottey as a backup (for a reason, i guess)
clottey deff didn't show up in the fight, he didn't really try (he even said in an interview afterwards, forgot what vid exactly)
mayweather has been away for a while and isn't getting any younger, so it might have some affect
ortiz looks a lot bigger and stronger at WW (went up to 160ish on fight night) and his new found mentality, well at least against berto. hopefully he shows it in this fight.
so i think ortiz has a way better shot against mayweather. manny seems to be a tougher (or scarier) opponent in my eyes, his power made mosley **** himself and made clottey shell up so ortiz will go all out on mayweather, he doesn't have the power to put ortiz to sleep, and i'm sure ortiz knows this
You have a point.

God no. Pac was way to fast and active that Clottey just quit was satisfied to just be part of the event and survive to the final bell.
Floyd is coming off a layoff so thats always a big question mark because Leonard looked good coming back against Hagler but the next year layoff he lost then the next one he got stopped. Floyd has to be more active or it will cost him eventually. However I think Floyd wins just as easy because Ortiz has no jab.
