I could go for that. K9 or Wolak would be interesting fights for Canelo....not the very elite of the division but also not easy walks in the park either.
I've consistently said that Canelo was going to crush Rhodes since the fight was announced. I was proven right.
Now the question is how many more Matt Hattons and Ryan Rhodes does he need to go through before he's ready to step up in class?
rhodes was a legit opponent, it's just his stupid gameplan that was, well, stupid. he didn't come to win every round, he came to try and stop alvarez. he was looking for the ko while soaking up alvarez' punches. that's where he went wrong, that opening he was looking for never really came and it was too late for him to try and do anything else, he screwed himself over imo. i think alvarez is fine fighting natural or experienced LMWs. i think a good fight for him would be wolak or the powell/k9 winner.
Typical post fight thread. Before the fight he's the experience vet that's going to end his hype, after the fight he's a Euro bum. Funny how these bold statements aren't made before the fight.

I don't have a problem with the pace that "Canelo" or Chavez Jr. is on right now. I think it's a good thing that they have been fed some decent, durable fighters that gives them a chance to gets some rounds in. They have been going the full 12 versus some solid competition (Rhodes, Hatton, Zbik, Duddy). Does everyone remember David Lemieux of Canada fighting a bunch of "China-Chinned" fighters and winning every fight with 1st & 2nd round KO's. I had been saying for the past year...that Lemieux needs to be in the ring with some fighters to make him go rounds. All of those early KO's will Back-fire on him. And then guess what happened....Rubio takes him past 5 rounds and Lemieux looked completely gassed and folded like a cheap lawn-chair.
The pace "Canelo" and Chavez are on....is just fine. all the fighters you guys want them to face...it will happen eventually. They are both young (22 & 24)...there is plenty of time for Cotto, Berto, Cintron...etc.

And because they are both young, around the same weight class....I can easily see this as a next great Mexican Rivalry (Vasquez vs Marquez - Marquez vs Barrera). I can see them fight 3 or maybe 4 time before their careers come to an end.
Rhodes was actually ranked #4 in the World by The Ring magazine, so he was thought to have been a big step up.
It's not Canelo's fault he made him look like trash nor is it his fault Rhodes fought a stupid fight and had a very poor game plan.
Many people thought Rhodes would at the very least give Canelo a tough fight and many even picked him to win.not me...

A Cotto fight would be great..Cotto avenging his brother's loss. I have Cotto winning by a close decision at this point due to the size difference. Cotto is far more experienced but The size will play a BIG factor in that fight.
bring on junior...unlike rhodes, jr is bringin the fifht to him.....
Canelo will have to move up because there is little hope of the 180 lb Chavez jr making 154 anymore. Skill-wise, Canelo will bust him up...the "Ginger" can throw the combos while Chavez is a1-2 punch fighter.
You oughta settle down chav. Hatton and Rhodes aren't much different. One is simply a slightly better bum than the other, but neither has any business on the world stage other than to get their green teeth knocked out of their mouths.
If I'm being honest.
I thought for a second I was being addressed by the real wazaa, instead I'm met with an irrelevant fat yank wannabe hiding behind an alt
Why not?
They've been feeding a lot of Ameri-bums to European boxers for years.
Vitali: Arreola, Johnson, Briggs
Wlad: Byrd, Brock, Austin, Brewster, Thompson, Rahman, Chambers, etc
Huck: Minto, Richards, Godfrey
Adamek: Cunningham, Banks, Gunn, Maddalone, Estrada, Arreola, Grant
Price: Butler
Calzaghe: Hopkins, Jones, Manfredo, Mitchell, Brewer, Sheika
Hopkins and Roy Jones were bums? Come on
if he stopped switching to southpaw and bullied alvarez to the ropes this would've been a different story. what the fuck was he doing in the middle of the ring trying to outbox alvarez for? did they watch tapes of saul at all going into this fight? alvarez has no inside game whatsoever! pinning him to the ropes would hinder his ability to throw power shots. man, this fight pissed me off. rhodes came to collect pesos.
yeah, his gameplan was horrible. trying to soak up those punches, look for an opening or come on late was a bad idea. when he did make alvarez walk backwards, he did get some shots in, but alvarez soon turned it around. i think if rhodes came into the fight with the idea of him trying to win everything round instead of trying to look for that one punch or that one hopeful opening, this fight would've been different like you said. rhodes did made himself look bad regardless of saul's improvements.
I didn't think Canelo looked bad, he actually shined and was terrific.
But Rhodes sucked a*ss and had no chance at all of winning. Which took all the drama out of the fight.
My hope is that Alvarez ' team will match him up against tougher opposition now. But I could see them wanting to iron out a few more wrinkles against soft touches: if so I don't think I want to watch. One-sided beatdowns are boring.
I think Canelo > JCC Jr. and its not even close.
the ginger kid is more athletic than chavez jr, but that's about it... they both are mexican hypejobs at this point.
