The two-belt light-welterweight clash between Britain’s Amir Khan and New Yorker Zab Judah next month will result in the WBA title currently held by Khan passing on to current interim champion Marcos Maidana. The victorious fighter on July 23rd will walk away with the WBA ‘super’ and IBF 140lb titles, meaning that effectively, Maidana is now the ‘regular’ WBA champion.
Khan, 24, may now escape having to defend his title against the Argentinian in a rematch after the two fought the ‘Fight of the Year’ last December in Las Vegas. ‘Chino’ would have been first in line for a shot at the former Olympic silver medallist if he comes through a tough-looking challenge against the 33 year-old four-time world champion Judah and becomes unified champion.
'King' Khan is tipped to move up to welterweight if he successfully claims both titles next month, while Judah is intent on ruling the light-welterweight division after moving in the opposite direction.
Maidana, 28, is yet to find an opponent for his next bout, which should now be his first title defence and may interest interim lightweight champion Roberto Guerrero, who is looking for a world title shot at 140lbs.
lets be clear, this is only because of Maidana's b1tching hes got a belt. Hes talked himself into getting a 'championship'. He got beat comfortably by Khan then whines about the decision and demands a rematch (likes he actually f*cking entitled to one) and then gets handed a belt anyway. Embarassing to boxing and for Maidana.
If Maidana is so tough and this n that, fight the Alexander-Mathysse winner and watch him lose AGAIN when hes forced to take a ste up in class
Maidana would rape Alexander, Mathysse vs Maidana would be a great fight.

Maidana isn't really champion, Brandon Rios is in the same situation. I just hope he can win a proper title before he retires. (i thought he was unlucky to not get the decision against Kotelnik)
Maidana should fight Morales again. The winner should get the belt. Nothing should be handed to him. Morales wins? Morales gets the belt. Morales looses? Miadana's Belt
how many fcukin belts do they want? take the piss with all these interim regular super diamond bull****. fcukin nob heads!they should have no more than 2 belts per division.
