I'm being honest here, everytime a big fight comes along I always hope Cortez isn't picked as the referee. That's like one of the first things I think of.
With you there.
While we're on the subject, I desperately hope Smoger is in charge of both the Haye-Klitschko and Rios-Antillion fights.
if one arm is free you don't break them up. Cortez doesn't understand that rule. he breaks as soon as bodies touch.
on friday on showbox the lateef kayode fight was a great example of that, kayode's opponent kept trying to him up, kayode had one arm free and he would just smash godfrey with it repeatedly. ref didn't do anything.
that's professional boxing right there.
if you aren't strong enough to tie a guy up the ref shouldn't be breaking you apart
angulo's fight with alcine was another great example
i believe smoger reefed, but i honestly don't remember
angulo had a free hand and alcine was only strong enough to tie up angulos left hand. alcine waited for the ref to break them and he did not, as thats the way the rules are supposed to play ou
he clubbed him with his free hand until he was basically out on his feet
he used to do an OK job of reffing fights
but lately i've grown to despise him
he clearly robbed chino maidana of the advantage in the 10th of his fight with khan
khan wasn't strong enough to keep both of maidana's arms tied up and he should have been allowed to punch with his free hand.
he tries to impose his imprint on the fight, which in my eyes is the last thing you want to do as a ref
if you're reffing a clean and even fight without clinches the crowd should forget you're even in the ring.
I don't like Cortez but he has paid his dues..I don't care that he is in the HOF,that means he won't be refing anymore fights right??If so I'm totally good with it..
Is that true?? Because if it is, YAY for Joe Cortez... HOF or Bust. Would be happy if I never saw him in another ring ever again...
Should a referee be inducted in any Hall of Fame?
More so then Sylvester Stallone, IMO.
LOL yeah cause Floyd would of lost if it weren't for Cortez. Bwhahahahahahaha!!!
Yes Floyd would have likely lost if it werent for Cortez. Kostya Tsu must feel hard done by when he saw the Floyd and Hatton fight. He feels the ref didnt help him as much as the ref helped floyd. Why does floyd need to fight a easier hatton than everyone else? Cant he just try and deal with the hatton everyone else lost to. The dirty hatton. If Floyd could beat the wrestling and hugging dirty hatton, now that would be something to give Floyd props to.
But always wants advantages dont he?
Floyd would have most likely won but be honest Cortez did not let Ricky fight his fight at all..
Tell me about it. Kostya Tsu knows all about that.
:ugh: :ugh:
When Hatton did get inside (his supposed domain) Floyd absolutely battered him. Floyd beat Ricky at his own game.
Masterful performance
Hatton was scared to do anything as he might get punished by Cortez for hitting floyd, and he was wary of floyds elbows.
He's done a very poor job in many big fights, but clearly he is one of the more relied upon and well known refs in boxing. So I can't say he doesn't deserve it.
I will remember Cortez as the man who helped Floyd beat Hatton and lose his unbeaten record.

if you like holding and dirty fighting then you dont like cortez
he get involved in the fight coz the guy is the referee you need to listen to him or -1 point for you
