In the United States do you think our future generations will revive boxing, or even keep it alive. What will it take to keep boxing going in the States. Why aren't our future generation into or have lack of interest for this great sport. Is it our fault for not passing knowledge or history of the sport. Is it our media's fault for not shining or putting any kind of light on boxing.(Particularly Espn)
Im 30 and I have a 13 year old son, and I constantly talk sports with him, but when I talk boxing he just has a blank look on his face. I feel as if I am forcing him to like boxing because I do. He says, "I dont really get boxing", same as with my friends and family. Although my wife enjoys boxing for the most part no one else close to me or work with me does. My son can talk baskeball and football all day. That doesn't bother me so much but with basketball he always discuss individuals. (ex: Lebron James, Kobe, Kevin Durant etc.) As if basketball is not a team sport. My family and friends also discuss these sports like that. So why is it an individual sport like boxing gets no love.
Im wondering what can we do as fans to possibly help the sport revive in the States. Or are real boxing fans just going to stay an exclusive club. I would love to see it broaden out here in the United States as possibly one day again as a major sport.
Your views and thoughts would be appreciated.
Side Note: The only two fighters my son does talk about are fighting each other. (Ortiz and Mayweather):boxing:
That is not the fans job...Promoters and Networks need to do a better job! The sucks at building up YOUNG BOXING STARS, they are all just busy riding the Pacquiao and/or Mayweather Money Train...but what happens when those trains stop and Retire? I still don't see that Superstar on the Rise...I guess they are trying to build up Canelo and Chavez Jr but I have questions about those guys IN THE RING...to be honest neither is all that impressive and they are both very beatable...but they are still young so they can and will improve
But the Promoters need to come together and do some type of BIG EVENT for the Fans, also trying to get back to Network TV would really Help Boxing Revive Boxing and bring more fans...but that probably won't happen because these Promoters are TOO GREEDY
well yea...of course MMA will also find their own fans...and quite frankly, i dont mind them not seeing the beauty that's hidden within boxing's violence
most MMA fans dont even really understand their own sport...i've been to MMA parties where its just nothing but knuckle dragging mouth breathers that dont know the difference between an armbar or a RNC...and here i am, the boxing fan, explaining to them these moves
but that's not to say boxing doesn't have its fair share of dildos...take NSB for example
of the 300 people online right now, maybe only 50-60 really know what they're talking about...the rest are just as bad as those MMA fans
Just like any other sport there are degrees of fandom. You got boxing purists and guys who know and love the sport and on the other side of the spectrum you got fans who just support their one favorite (Pactards et al.). But I think the numbers and quantity (of fans) are what matters to the popularity of the sport. Numbers drive the tv ratings, ppv buys, the live gate attendance (even though casual fans probably don't attend too many live events), etc..
To some they see violence,i see beauty i see craft dedication hard work and biggest of all heart.
Simple and sweet. I could not have said better myself.
I agree wit dis but a lot of those "sadistic" people are going to mma rather than boxing.
For me, boxing, strikes a nice balance between violence, athleticism, strategy and technique and competitiveness. I hate mma because of the excessive violence and lack of regard for your opponent. It is encourage in mma to hit your opponent when he's down and out, and defenseless, really....
Boxingscene quote of the week. I must agree. Lmao
yea man...no joke to it...there's something sick and sadistic inside all of us that make us infatuated with a sport where two men beat each other senseless with their fists
its not for everyone

I hate talking boxing with people that dont know sht, because like average americans they think they know all,Pacquiao will destroy Mayweather i have seen both of them fight twice type of sht.
I hear that alot also. Thank Sportcenter for that. No one ever says why such fighter will win just that he will.
This.
Everybody in Germany knows who the Klitschkos are. They're selling out arenas that can fill 50k people. And almost everybody knows Abraham as well. He is also selling out places. F*ck, even Sturm is selling good whithout fighting anyone decent.
Everybody in the UK knows who Haye and Khan are. They're selling out venues that can hold 20k as well.
Everybody in Mexico knows who JMM and Alvarez are and they sell out venues in Mexico as well.
Alot of people in Canada kow who Bute and Pascal are and they're filling venues as well.
The problem lies in America.
I see it is popular globally but why not here in the U.S.
you can't force people to 'like' boxing....
boxing as with any other sport, will automatically reach out to its own fans when they see it
you dont find boxing, boxing finds you
you dont get boxing, boxing gets you
You are right just frustrating at times not being able to discuss it with people who are close to you.

That would explain why it's so unpopular. :D
