Fighters around while I've been a fan: Calzaghe and Mayweather. Not Pacquiao as I remember him being outclassed by an old Eric Morales.
I can imagine Whitaker and Jones Jr were the same, until they aged and got beaten by Trinidad and co.
Same here, I thought Cotto would remain undefeated until he fought Floyd or Pac...then along came that cheating piece of shit(Margacheater) and took Cotto's 0 in the lowest way imaginable(by cheating.)
I also thought young, prime DLH was unbeatable until he practicly gave the fight away to Trinidad after making him his bitch for 9 rounds.
Now, I see Pac and Floyd as unbeatable and truly believe only they can beat one another, nobody else will.
I agree, which is why the two of them fighting is a must. The problem is, if and when they finally get to it and decide to fight, one or both of them may not end up being at their absolute best - and that sucks. These two really need to get at it and prove once and for all which one is #1 pd 4 pd the best. More than likely, no matter who wins, there would probably be a rematch clause from both sides so it'd be a "two for" lol. It will be a real travesty, in boxing history too, if these two never end up fighting each other.
Roy Jones and Iron Mike. Anyone who really watched Jones in his prime cannot think he was beatable. I have his whole career prior to Tarver 2 on tape. Mayweather has looked beatable against Oscar and Castillo. He won those fights but he looked human. Roy had KO power in both hands, he could not be hit, and his speed combined with crazy footwork was unbelievable.
Roy Jones Jr. and Mike Tyson are the only ones i thought could never be beaten. To this day i still think Roy Jones Jr. at that point in his career was unstoppable no matter what fighter came to face him from any era, he had it all.
I thought Cotto was pretty invinsible up until the Margarito fight. I remember watching him and thinking you could throw the kitchen sink at this guy and he's gonna keep coming at you. When he fought Judah with his lip half hanging off I thought this guy is damn near unbeatable just on sheer will. Well, accept for FMJ - I always thought his style would beat Cotto by mere frustration, but other than that I still get stunned at the Cotto/Margarito fight and have a hard time believing Tony didn't have his gloves loaded in that fight. What could Cotto be now if it weren't for that fight? Cause any honest person knows that he hasn't been the same guy since then.

I used to think Hamed was invincible back when I was young and dumb
I know he's all hype now though.
Also- shane mosley at lightweight
Naseem Hamed got me into boxing ( along with Lennox Lewis ) and there was definitely an aura of invincibility around him
If we're talking about boxers we thought were unbeatable at a certain time ( and not including hindsight ) then Hamed would be on my list
list em..fighters you've seen who are so damn good and could adjust to damn near anything and you thought couldnt possibly ever lose
tito trinidad. as a kid growing up hes my childhood boxing hero everybody in our fam would tune in when he fights. then came along bhop who i didnt even know that stopped him. i was in disbelief
:lol1:
I did, it was crazy. I was in my teens. And, Tito was the reason I loved boxing. You thought these extremist Pac fans and Floyd fans were bad? You should have seen me during this time.
The way he just walked through 154 and Joppy had me thinking "he can pull this off". And, then the Hopkins fight came :nonono:
That fight made me a better fan though, it humbled me. It made me really do research not only styles but the history of the sport.
I had a friend in high school who went through the same thing. He was Puerto Rican and Trinidad events were a holiday. He talked so much crap before that fight, felt so bad for him. Luckily I was the only other boxing fan, none of our other friends cared, so I didn't rub it in.
I did rub it in when Winky won though, he talked so much sh**.
Never thought any one was unbeatable but there's 2 that have had me close to thinking it,
1. Michael Spinks and I hated him for it, I bet quite a bit of money against him simply because I didn't like him (stupid reason I know), and every time he would completely dominate his opponent then came the Qawi fight and I bet against him again and after that I just thought what is the point ?, nobody is beating him, he beat most styles of a high tier and in a dominating fashion.
One of the best all rounded boxers I've ever seen and he has slowly grown into one of my favourites.
2. Holyfield at Cruiser.
The fan delusion.
Trust me, I've been there.
You must have had a double dose if you thought Tito could beat Roy :lol1:
