Easy cottos the bigger better man
i think ortiz is actually the larger of the two in terms of natural size
he's a bit taller and has bigger shoulders
his arms are a bit longer
and he's already a WW weighing in at 160 on the nights of his fights as a 24 year old
cotto's older and at this stage in his life he's a jrmw, but i don't think that he was born a larger man
ortiz will finish his career as a jr MW as well more than likely
honestly i think that's a certainty. If you've followed his last handful or more fights you can see he was coming in at 141,142,143 etc. Some of these fights were contracted to be above 140 the way i understand. Additionally you could see he wasn't looking to great in the weigh ins.
The proof is in the performance at 147. Berto hits harder (or at a minimum at least as hard) as Maidana and Ortiz took every bomb Berto offered. His stamina also improved, as evidenced by the punch count and the fact he was still energetic right until the end of the match, and he also rehydrated past 160 in a WW fight....imo that's a huge signal that he really would have been struggling to get to 140.
i agree with almost everything except for the power punching of andre berto
berto doesn't even hit with his knuckles for the most part
he has a "slapping" thing going on
sometimes on very short punches he can turn them over, but he's not really a power puncher
i think maidana's a much harder puncher than berto
just look at ortiz face after he started getting hit with the right hand consistently to close the fight
it swelled up like a baloon
Prime Cotto beats the **** out of Ortiz and makes him quit but now he would probably get a late tko or ud in a close fight where Ortiz has some good moments.
I think Victor Ortiz is still a lil' green for Cotto right now...Ortiz has power and a lil bit of speed and footwork but I don't think he knows how to really use that ability intelligently yet and it will make him very predictable against Cotto especially mayweather...and let's not forget that Cotto is a lil faster than Ortiz and probably has just as much power
Right now? Ortiz. You Boricuas can deny it all you want but your man is at the end of his rope as far as his career goes. He's shellshocked. Ortiz has too much power for his kind of style, enough to stop Cotto.
Prime Cotto would scrape Ortiz though.
Good scrap, but Cotto to me is more skilled, harder puncher and has a stiff jab that would frustrate the sh*t out of Ortiz. His body attack as well would hurt Ortiz down the stretch.
Cotto is getting older, but I think in the right fight we'd see shades of the old Miguel, and to me I believe that's more than enough to beat Ortiz now.
Cotto by KO, Ortiz isn't tough enough to last 12 rounds, if he found it hard against Maidana then he'd have trouble taking Cotto's shots all night. Obviously Cotto isn't as big of a puncher as Maidana but Cotto wears you down and the accumulation of punches, especially body shots, are hard to take.
I'll side with Ortiz on this one. Yes Cotto is more experienced, but he's also a lot more worn compared to Victor Ortiz. Ortiz seems like a different animal at 147 and eventually I feel he overwhelms Cotto.
I'd like to see how Ortiz handles a consistent body attack though, if Cotto can do it. Other than that, I feel Ortiz wears Cotto down.
Prime WW Cotto knocks him out. Too well rounded, composed and tough
Now? Im not sure Cotto would be strong enough at WW, can he even still do the weight?
It would be a great fight tho and I wouldn't be shocked if Ortiz wins. Ortiz looks a lot better at 147. Maybe he was having trouble making 140?
