I can't stand that Floyd is strictly a businessman and almost not even a fighter anymore, but he got the drop on Pac/Fat old crusty boxing ruining Arum with this fight.
1) He's fighting a guy without A TON of ring mileage and that's not ancient in boxing years
2) He's fighting a higher ranked WW than Manny (#2 ring ranking)
3) He's fighting a legit threat coming of a big win over an undefeated beltholder.
IMO this makes Manny look bad, excellent strategic move by FMJr.
both floyd and pac's upcoming fights aren't that competitive if you really look at it. jmm best weight class is lightweight and he's a little past it and ortiz barely beat berto and got smashed by 140 maidana
you think Floyd would have fought Berto if he won that fight?
Depends on how berto looked, but prob not. this was a smart move, and you know how I feel about Floyd, but credit is due IMO.
But Floyd's the underdog against Ortiz? :lol1:
And yeah, 'zombie' is the word I would use for Ortiz. Apparantly, He's back from the dead after this:
No Floyd is not the underdog, but atlest ORTIZ has a chance, unlike any of Mannys last 4 opponents.
Manny had his chance to give us a GREAT FIGHT this time. No one was listening to Marquez asking Manny for a trilogy because everyone knew Marquez would get destroyed, Manny, Arum, Roach used that as a chance to DUCK, they knew Martinez, Bradley, Ortiz and even Berto was still out there.
They had there chance to let Manny fight someone with a chance, not that fake punchers chance that Shane had, and what did they do?? They still ended up picking the less threat, MARQUEZ.
This is smart move by Floyd.
On paper this is a better scrap than PAC-JMM triology
And I am more interested in this fight than the past 2 fights of Pacquiao and JMM.
Ortiz is a live underdog.
I think Floyd will be in a fight for the first 3 rounds
Then Floyd will figure Ortiz out and picked him apart.
I won't be surprised if Ortiz quit in late stage of the fight
Or Floyd potshot him and coast and run away from him.
Yes, they can rejoice, he's fighting someone with a pulse, Manny has been fighting zombies, I never get nervous about Manny losing because he's never the underdog.
Ortiz is HUNGRY, has nothing to lose, and will go for it, he can be known as the man he beat Floyd Mayweather, only thing Shane, Margarito had to earn was money.

Your hating on it, so it must be great!
I am not hating on it, but I am pissed off that after 16 months of fuk all, we get Vic Ortiz. Too much fukking around from Pac and floyd.
Why should I be thrilled that Manny and floyd are fighting pointless fights rather than each other?
should have been fighting as a ww. How's jmm's ww record looking these days?
Floyd v jmm at 14whatever was already a joke, now manny wants to give us an encore???? Sorry, I'm not a fukn idiot.
good points, but these days of bob setting up pac with all these commercials and being on CBS etc are going to come to a crashing halt when all the fights that he puts on with manny SUCK to watch...he didn't do manny any favors with the shane fight and now we have marquez who looked awful vs floyd at this weight.
True that the lackluster Mosley fight might hurt sales, but I doubt it. People seem to have horrible memories when it comes to PPVs. How many of Floyd's fights have been panned as boring, etc and then he pulls in big #s the next fight. Same with Pac-Clottey, horrible fight with little to no action but then the next time out Pacquiao surprised a lot of people with over a mil sold. I think selling Pac-JMM III will be the easiest promotional job for Arum in the last few years, just show highlights/replays of the first 2 and that'd be good enough for a mil.
Why do people act like Pac isn't responsible for his own BS? He's the one that has to sign off on these fights. So you Pac fans are essentially calling him a puppet who's controlled by Arum. I aint buying it.
coming from a pacfan...i say in a way it's a good thing. pac without a rival at the top makes him a little bit complacent and we've seen how he took some no-hoper fights on ppv. the rivalry between an active floyd and pac will bring nothing but good things to boxing fans.
You Feel That? The Buzz is Back in Boxing
Nice try Pac, but Mayweather is center of the boxing world, now that Floyd is stepping back into the ring, time for the boxing world to have fun again! Fighting the old faded Marquez aint it, sorry.
Ithink Arum took it for granted that he would ACTUALLY fight Ortiz.
I thoguht it would be Ortiz or Bradley. 2 guys Arum had future plans with Pacquiao.
Great move and great fight by Mayweather.
How is this a great fight?
:lol1:
Victor Ortiz is not a threat to do anything but quit midway through the fight. Also, he's by far the least recognizable fighter to the public that Floyd has faced since probably Baldomir. I bet if you went outside today and spoke to casual sports fans about this fight they'd say 'Floyd's fighting who? Never heard of him'.
Manny will bring in 1.3+ mil against Marquez and will be featured on CBS, and has Nike, HP, etc commercials running on a loop. I really don't think he cares about Floyd's one fight for the year before another retirement.
This guy here. :lol1:
Look, I have no problem with Floyd-Ortiz. I'm on record that Victor has been grossly overrated since beating a flawed and completely untested Berto after he (Ortiz) was only ranked 7th as a JWW and lost his soul to Maidana, arguably lost to Peterson. If Floyd fans want to rejoice about the return, go nuts.
I'm just telling it like it is.

Great move by Floyd. Despite only really looking good in 2 of his past 7 fights, Ortiz nonetheless (due to his last fight) brings all the perception of the biggest challenge in the WW division not named Floyd or Manny. And he brings a belt. Top Rank missed the opportunity to add what should be a respectable resume win while probably providing little trouble for a Manny or Floyd type fighter. Manny, if not upset about not getting this fight, should be.
Great post!!
Give it up, Pacs done!! He's fighting Marquez about 5 years to late, he should have fought Marquez before the Delahoya fight and gotten the trilogy over with.
Manny hadn't fought anyone with a PULSE since Cotto, and even he was in the ICU.

Hate to say it but Floyd outsmarted Manny on this one | BoxingScene Community
