The fight was in staple center. Get over it.
And that is what is so pathetic about Boxing. Chavez should have lost (again) but because of where he fought, and his daddies name, he moves forward. It turns alot of people away from the sport.
Chavez didnt do much. Should check those judges. I Knew this is going to happen, they should make a rematch
Judge 1: 114-114= DRAW
Judge 2: 115-113= CHAVEZ
Judge 3: 116-112= CHAVEZ= WTF?
I'm fine with the draw. I'm fine with the 115-113 score for I had the same score for Zbik at the end of the fight. However, I have no idea what fight the judge who had the 116-112 score was watching.
As others on this thread have pointed out, Chavez Jr. had the name and any sort of close decision would have gone to him no matter what. It's the nature of the beast that I certainly don't agree with it.
Zbik needed to stay boxing, but opted to trade on the inside with Chavez Jr. later in the fight. He is partly to blame and his corner did not seem to correct it. Such a lapse in strategy led to those body shots from Chavez, which slowed the zip on Zbik's punches.
Chavez Jr. needs to work on his D if he does intend to lock horns with bigger names such as Maravilla. He was getting hit way too much and one can only imagine what sort of brutal KO he'll receive at the hands of someone with even decent power.
Probably so, but you can't fault Jr for playing by the rules...
And you can't give Zbik a handicap on the scorecards because of it either.
Again though, if you can't hurt your opponent, you atleast need to outbox them. Zbik seemed to give up on that idea early on, and just let Jr stick his head into his chest. He could have boxed circles around Jr and just landed easily all night.
I really don't get why you're so impressed with Zbik.
You are right, but Zbik couldn´t box circles around Julio, Zbik had no legs from the 4th round on, he was taking brutal body shots and his legs were gone, so he couldn´t really do anything from the outside, which was clearly his strategy, and then Chavez made him fight his fight. But again chavez looks like a punching bag, as a mexican i tell you right now Cotto kills him, well even Rubio kos him.
Don't the judges use 4 criterias to score fights...
Effective agression, defense, clean punching, and ring generalship?
Zbik was landing the cleaner punches, but Chavez forced him to fight his fight. Both guys were agressive but Chavez was obviously more effective at taking the fight inside. Defense was pretty bad on both sides. Zbik couldn't stop the body attack and Chavez blocked most of the punches with his face.
Nothing about this fight is a robbery. This isn't the amateurs. Landing more punches doesn't necessarily mean you get the round. This fight wasn't anything close to a robbery.
Yes sir u said it right.. i had it a draw. but maybe i gave it to Julio. cuz he won the chamipionship rounds, and seemed to want it more, it was a terrible performance by both
it's this fight right here like many others that make me support Philadelphia in the same day weigh ins on fight night........
because in the case of the cruiser weight coming into the middleweight division, those weak pitter patter punches zbik was landing on the cruiserweight would've had an effect...........
had the fight been the same day as the weigh in, jr would've never made it the 6th round.........
Probably so, but you can't fault Jr for playing by the rules...

I really don't see why you keep bringing up size difference...So Zbik should get a handicap on the scorecards because Jr rehydrated to a heavier weight?
I don't get it...why do you keep bringing it up like it should be factored AT ALL into the scorecards.
Zbik landed more. Jr landed more effective punches.
Go watch amateur fights if number of punches landed means everything to you.
Fact is, other than number of punches landed, Zbik was not impressive at all. He didn't out-do Jr in any other way. If you can't hurt someone, you need to atleast outbox them. He just stood toe-to-toe.
zbik landed muc hmore shot. chavez landed much less BUT alot more effectice power shots. and i think thats what the judges looked at. not who outlanded the opponent but the fighter who landed the more effective looking shots.
Do I give a ****? Boxing is about inflicting damage on your opponent. If he can't hurt him, he needs to look impressive in other ways.
And that's the thing, other than landing more punches, Zbik had NOTHING going for him. He probably COULD have boxed circles around Jr. But nope, after round 3 he just stood toe-to-toe, letting Chavez rip him to the body, and then throwing a weak ass 3 punch combo.
So yes, I have to give it to Chavez. His defense was absolutely atrocious, but considering Zbik had nothing - he really didn't have to worry about it. He just leaned forward and ripped away at Zbik's body...AND ZBIK LET HIM.
So yes, Chavez deserved the win.
i really didn't see jr land anything clean, i was laughing as zbik was landing and hbo wasn't saying nada but when jr threw anything that was remotely close they commented on it....
but seriously, how can the really effectively call this fight, jr never had dude hurt, he sure as hell didn't TAKE THE BELT AWAY, the only thing that made it possible was his size......
there is only so much a middleweight can do against a cruiserweight, especially when the middleweight is a light puncher.
granted the geographic of the fight didn't favor zbik but he was catching and trapping a lot of shots and was outlanding with shots.........
jr was about as big as pascal in there tonight............. this robbery means nothing as a win, just another injustice in boxing, from the weight disparity to the scoring........ and it was that 15lbs that made zbiks punches look like nothing, not chavez himself..... all chavez did was get out landed by the smaller guy..........
and as for the bigger guy, why did chavez struggle so much and not physically dominate?? maybe because he was too busy eating dudes punches..........
zbik won the fight if you're scoring the fight in real fight terms........... the outcome is some fantasy island bullshidt.......
Beating someone in the body so bad there calling low blow every 30 secs is not being robbed,i had it 115-113 Jr effective punching won the fight.
That's because your not a troll of a little stupid ass kid....
Which is what this place is now dominated by.
whoa wait up for a second, look at the inside the ring weight difference, chavez was two who weight classes above zbik, landing those shots on a regular middleweight would've done sufficient damage.........
chavez was fighting inside the ring as a CRUISER WEIGHT!!!!, zbiks punches had to count!!! chavez punches got all the credit even though out weighing old boy by 15 lbs, hbo acted like chavez was taking on a bigger guy, totally not the case......

I felt like it was a tough fight to score. Zbik landed way more punches, but do you win for just landing more punches, even if they aren't effective at all? This isn't the amateurs. Really just comes to preference, in my opinion.
I like the nod to Chavez, but I would have agreed if they gave it to Zbik.

purely academic, purely hype favoritism..........
zbik completely won academically......... chavez won on pure hype.....
if you think beating a guy to the punch and out landing him 2 to 1 maybe even more is winning? the you have zbik winning the fight as anyone with common sense and not dickriding.........
if you think finishing strong when you're 15lbs heavier than your opponent is winning, then you really don't have any respect for the sweet science....
zbik might have not finished whooping jr's ass, but he racked up an academic lead that chavez need knockdowns to improve his chances at winning, at least in the real world scoring, not this crap that we've been subjected to.
they aren't doing chavez any favors giving him this belt stealing it away from zbik.........
did anyone notice, the final compubox numbers at first view they were a landslide in favor for zbik but when they changed it to showing the location of the punches on the dummy, of body, head, left, right, the numbers were the exact opposite in favor for chanvez????
i have no faith anymore in the hbo establishment and their set up, they are corrupt beyond belief.......
I agree it was a robbery, I had it 115-113 for Zbik. I just couldn't believe that Chavez Jr had such a bad defence, I mean I've seen him a lot before and yeah he had a pretty poor defence but he said that this was his best training camp ever and so on, but his defence was just plain crap.
Zbik was down on the card before the fight started :nonono:
it was no way Arum was going to allow him to lose, at worse they would have saved him and given him a DRAW (Ironically like one card had it), I am starting to become very suspect of Top Rank Events...VERY!
I get the feeling sometimes like Opponents are being PAID OF TO TAKE A DIVE as well as suspect Refs and Judges, Zbik was getting blasted in the NUTS most of he damn fight and the ref knew it but it was NO WAY he was going to take a point from Chavez
It is NO DAMN WAY Arum put Chavez Jr in the ring with Martinez...NO WAY!
Martinez and Cotto will make Jr lose his "virginity"
