Arum would have NEVER put him in there with Winky. The fight was not a reality. It was quite frankly a joke. Him and Floyd are good friends. It wasnt serious. And fighters did turn down Winky. Sturm, Margarito turned him down. Oscar ducked for him YEARS until he offered. He only turned down 4 fights. Thats it. And only 2 were legit fights and thats the Taylor and Oscar fight. Oh, most definitely. Winky was a good fighter no doubt. But I have no idea why he rejected those fights, especially with Oscar and Mayweather which were career paydays for him. I can't understand why you would do that. It didn't stop there either. There was other big fights he turned down also for some reason. I just don't know why he did that. Winky however had bad management. dan is trippin...seriously.....NO ONE was calling winky out and winky was in oscar's shi t until oscar lowballed him.....and i don't remember oscar coming to try to get his 154lb championship back after winky won it. I don't need to go back and pore over google searches to know that winky was trying desparately to get fights with the big names from 147-154 until Shane fought him. He was a top 3 ww from 2000-04 before he got a fight with a big name AND he was a top 10 ww since the mid 90s. Gotta agree with you here Dan. Winky was a great fighter, but My Dear God was he a poor business man. With his personality and fighting style he was never going to b a huge PPV star and he simply didn't realize it and refused to believe it. He left A LOT of money on the table in his career just for being stubborn. Oh, most definitely. Winky was a good fighter no doubt. fact remains that my post was about winky being avoided pre Shane. So you and jro bringing up Floyd/Jermaine/margs holds no weight. The Oscar fight is correct and I overlooked the timing of that B/c that was supposed to unify before Oscar fought Shane the second time. Those people are all the names at 154 (including Vargas and quartey). Winky was trying to get Oscar and or Shane in the ring when he took the mckart fight for the third time, AND before whoever that Spanish dude he fought after that fight (name escapes me). I've already mentioned names. Especially from '00-'03 when he was an elite jmw, winky was hunting for big fights. I lived in tampa/st Pete from 97-00 and I was always hearing winky complaining about not getting the fights he was looking for. I followed him when I moved to Miami after that. And as far as a paper champ, he fought two eliminators to get the shot for the vacant title and defended it against at least two top 10 ring contenders in candelo and mckart if I'm not mistaken, then he unified against the man who beat the man so I'm pretty sure he's legitimately one of the best jmw's of the past decade. I voted Martinez, but could have easily went with Froch instead. Martinez has fought bigger men in 4 of his last 5, that put it over the top for me. Froch's resume is damn impressive though.
