lets hear it fellows
people i know taylor didnt do anything at 147 and was beat by chavez at 140..but cotto was green at 140..so just use your imagination prime for prime who wins is all im asking
I dunno, I think the Chavez fight took alot out of Meldrick mentally. Norris just ended the little he had left.
While I don't think he was the same fighter as pre-Chavez he was still good enough to beat Aaron Davis (one of Taylors best wins) who I'd favor over anyone in the current WW division not named Pac, same goes for the version of Taylor we're speaking of.
Cotto is a sharp, precise and damaging puncher himself, and with Taylor's lack of intelligence and defense,it could prove the deciding factor in such a fight.Of course,Cotto doesn't hold great physical advantages over Taylor like Espana did, and, unlike Julio Cesar Chavez,he has shown that he can be discouraged through sheer punch volume.
Personally, while I would give Taylor the edge,I wouldn't favour him as anything more than a slight favourite. It's a virtual pick'em fight,in my eyes. Two exciting offense fighters, with little regard in the way of defense - usually makes for a pretty exciting fight.
Depends... Taylor wants to box, than Taylor by easy UD. Taylor wants to fight, than its interesting.... Taylor by SD final answer
Taylor was a fighter, not a boxer. It was his willingness to engage in close and toe-to-toe that served him so well in his career. In doing do,it allowed him to overwhelm opposition with sheer speed, volume and consistency. His lack of height and reach prevented him from being truly effective at any other range.
If Prime Taylor fought sensibly he would dominate Cotto.
The thing with that is, Taylor has the tendency to do the exact opposite :lol1:
I think he beats Cotto anyway.
Meldrick Taylor wasn't bad after the Taylor fight, he actually got one of his best victories at welterweight against Aaron Davis (undefeated and fresh off of a KO win over Mark Breland). He was truely ruined after the Norris fight.
Anyway given that Larry is assuming he moves up in weight, the prime version of Taylor who had an insane work rate, combined with blazing handspeed and very good boxing skills (slightly overstated) would have to be favored over the methodical Cotto.

Cotto demolishes Taylor in Junior Welterweight and in Welterweight.
Cotto is just smarter, stronger, and pressure fighters are the only type of fighters that give him trouble. Taylor was never a pressure fighter.
And to make an educated opinion I watched 5 fights of Meldrick Taylor:
I mean Cotto's challengers were a lot better than Taylor's challengers. In my opinion Cotto wins easily meaning the fight is not even close UD or by KO win.
EDIT: The 5 videos are more of Taylor's lesser fights. Of course, I watched Terry Norris, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., and James McGirt are his high profile fights.
well i didnt say 140 cause cotto was green..so i chose 147....
Yeah, it's an interesting fight but a hard one to look at because of Taylor's fight with Chavez. And at 140 Taylor would definitely win because Cotto couldn't take Taylor then.

Of course I'm assuming, we're talking if PRIME Taylor moved up to 147... Not beat up Taylor right?
yes..thats what im saying

Yeah,I got Cotto too, because Taylor couldn't take the Chavez punishment at 140 & I think Cotto could match what Chavez was able to do at 140,at 147.
but he was actually winning that fight...we know how that ended..
Taylor did next to nothing at WW.
I would take Cotto at 147 since we will never know how he could perform there because he was a broken man after the first Chavez loss.
At 140 I'll take Medrick.
