Have there been any other #1 p4p fighters, past/present, that have been more sought after by fighters in divisions lower/higher?
Pac is being called out by Bantamweights (Darchiniyan), all the way up to Middleweights (Martinez)
Floyd was called out by JMM (Lightweight), and if you can call it being called out, by Martinez (Middleweight)
Don't ever re-call RJJ (in his prime) being called out by any Middleweights or below.....
Don't re-call B-Hop (in his prime) getting called out by anyone less than a Middleweight (Jermain Taylor)
Don't recall Mosley being called out....
Too young to remember Hagler, JCC Sr., Sweet Pea, DLH getting called out on their #1 statuses....
Or is the automatic assumption that once you are p4p #1, that is greater than any belt that you can have? Or have the times just changed to fighters strive to be on this "mythical list" than actually clearing out divisions?
And yes this includes Manny....he hasn't stayed put in one division (except for SFW and WW) for more than 4-5 fights......
Just wanted to get everyone's take on this issue.....HAPPY HUMP DAY!!!! :fing02:
Whoever is the cash cow fighters will go up or down in weight to make the payday. When JCC sr was around even Terry Norris was looking to fight him and a bunch of 130/126 pounders
LMFAO!!!!!! For reals??????
So this goes back to "challenging" the #1 fighter for the sake of being paid.....with little regard to actually wanting to be #1 for the sake of being #1?

EXACTLY!!!!
When fighters "challenge" each other....then throw in the "I want to be the #1 fighter in the world".....IT'S BULL-FACKIN-CHET!!!!!
It's them wanting to get paid.....
You mean to tell me that after Bradley beat Abregu...he called out Manny because he wants to be p4p#1???? Hell no...he wants to get paid.....Martinez says he can KO Manny (which he can) and become the p4p #1 fighter....KO Manny, yes, become p4p #1 after...nope. He wants to get paid....
The only fighter I believe that truly wants a piece of Manny just because...(money is a smaller factor)....is JMM....
Agree 100%
It'd be a dream come true for Martinez, not just because of the huge payday but his career would sky rocket if he wins. It makes a lot of $en$e.
It's more about calling out cash cows (Tyson, De La Hoya, ect.) then it's really about calling out the p4p#1 fighters. Pacquiao just happens to be both.

So this was what you were aiming for...
You should have made a different thread if you had Floyd in your mind. For example,
Why are so many boxers are calling out Pacquiao and not many are calling out Mayweather?
Nice try...but not at all what I was aiming for....
read my opening post.....
And they got their wish....albeit...no huge paydays involved....
When did Tito call Roy out? Back in in his prime or for their last hurrahs?
Tito Trinidad actually wanted to fight Roy after he had plans of beating Hopkins. Of course Hopkins derailed those plans, and B-Hop VS Roy never materialized because of their history and being unable to come to an agreement when it mattered.

Exactly....BUT, there's paydays involved with Floyd...

DLH for sure....but was he ever p4p#1? I know he was top 5 for many years...but #1?
And just look at what happened to Manny and Floyd after beating him...
Wonder why it never happened to Mosley or B-Hop after beating DLH?
BTW...I still smile when I reminisce about that kidney/liver shot B-Hop landed on his @$$....
Yes, he was. From 1997 to...1999/2000, I believe.
And that shot reminds me of how corrupt boxing can be :lol1:
De La Hoya, and it's not even close.

tito and hopkins wanted to fight roy jones

Vic called out Pac? :lol1:
And everyone calls out Pac because they want that big payday. It's kind of a no-brainer there.
Exactly....BUT, there's paydays involved with Floyd...
doest it really matter? if Pac is going to fight any of them its going to be at welter weight.
unless they are at WW of course
No it shouldn't matter.....but unfortunately, to fighters IT DOES matter....you don't see anyone calling out Ward, who in my opinion should be ranked #2 over Martinez....he has proven he can fight against ANY style....Martinez has as well, but let's be honest, Ward has much better "boxing skill" than Martinez....B-Hop should also be ranked higher than Martinez....at his age taking out the younger cats, champs at that, he should be #3
Point is fighters calling out Pac left and right for nothing more than the actual payday....not the actual fight itself.....whereas back in the days....being the #1 fighter diddn't really generate the huge amounts of money as it does today
