A MERRY-go-round is currently circling the light-welterweight division. On board are Amir Khan, Zab Judah, Marcos Maidana with Erik Morales, Robert Guerrero and Victor Ortiz looking on from afar.
Ironically, the number one star at 140lbs, Timothy Bradley 27-0 is at present nowhere near the main attraction and finds himself shut out because of contractual problems and inactivity.
“I’m no-one’s puppet,” declared Bradley when the 27-year old Californian exclusively spoke to Undisputed. A man filled with frustration and annoyance, Bradley is growing tired of having to be a yes man to those that promote him. “All I do is obey, yes sir, no sir I’m sick of doing that. What I’m doing right now is basically waiting on my promoter (Gary Shaw) to do their job. I’m waiting on options. There’s never any options for me. It’s always a case of ‘do this or you don’t fight etc etc’.”
“I’ve travelled to England, Canada, Detroit, Mississippi – I’ve only fought in front of my home crowd three times. And then people sit back and say who am I?”
Having only fought once this year Bradley continues to wait and see who he is going to fight next. After his last victory against Devon Alexander it seemed as though ‘Desert Storm’ would be fighting Britain’s Amir Khan on July 23. Everything seemed to be in place for a unification fight and a fight that would decide the best in one of boxing’s leading divisions. “Right now everyone’s going on about me turning down the chance to fight Amir Khan,” said Bradley. “It was nothing to do with money. I’ve come off winning the biggest fight of my career. If Khan was waiting on me why did he take the (Paul) McCloskey fight? Why did he not wait on me? I’m not afraid of Amir Khan. The thing is right now at this point in my life the timing is not right. The fight is a little bit premature. It needs to marinate a bit more.”
That statement is one that may not sit too well with boxing fans who are eager for the fight to happen. Virtually everyone is in agreement that the two champions are the best at their weight and are frustrated at the fight not being made. But as Bradley explains, his promoter hasn’t entirely done what has been expected of him. “Thing is my promoters have to get me a fight for June 30th. I gave them an extension on then initial contract till that date for another fight and they haven’t delivered. Look, everything was in Khan’s favour. Everything in the media was about me not taking the fight. I’m a two belt world champion and I’m being treated like a challenger. I know our styles match up very well and it would be a competitive fight but it’s too premature. It’s the same situation as the (Devon) Alexander fight. I was forced into it taking short money.”
Inactivity is hurting the WBC/WBO titlist. Having flourished in 2009 when he emerged victorious three times against challengers Kendall Holt, Nate Campbell and Lamont Peterson the unbeaten Bradley is going through a tough time as his gloves and kit gather dust waiting on an opponent. “I spoke to my manager (Cameron Dunkin) yesterday. Everyone’s upset right now. A lot of people are saying I’m stupid for not taking the money offered (for the Khan fight). At the end of the day boxing is no longer a sport it’s a business. I’m a little depressed about the whole situation.”
So as time drags on for Bradley it’s possible that no-one will see him back in the ring until the contract with Shaw comes to an end in June. With rumours of Top Rank looking to snap him up all that the American can do is look on as his rivals and former opponents negotiate over big money fights and reappearances on HBO. “Devon Alexander, a man I beat, is getting paid $1.25 million and he gets a fight in June?! And I have to wait till July till I fight, c’mon man. It’s not right.”
“Right now I can’t even negotiate anything. When I’m with Gary Shaw I don’t talk to anyone else. I play by the rules. I did them a favour by extending the contract. It was up by May 13th. I extended it to Jun 30. I had one option, Amir Khan, no other options were given to me.”
Will this be the last time we see Bradley in 2011?
So in the meantime what is one of boxing’s leading lights doing to pass the time? “I always stay in shape. Some weeks I’m at the gym some weeks I’m not. I don’t sit around getting fat I like to be out there getting my lungs full. I’m sitting back studying fights, studying fighters and trying to get better all the time,” he explained.
And this summer Bradley might be studying future opponent Amir Khan even more as rumours of a fight with Zab Judah or Robert Guerrero continue to rumble on. “Khan would definitely step his game up if he fought Guerrero or Judah. I’ve watched his last three or four fights and he’s fought to the standard of his opposition. But they are both are good fights. Judah’s older but he’s crafty and brings a lot of power. Guerrero’s a good lefty. He’s a big lightweight and comes to fight.”
“I don’t care who I fight. I know Amir Khan is on the radar and I know at some point me and Amir are gonna have a fight eventually.”
For right now however, the light on Bradley v Khan is currently switched off.

bottom line is that he needs to dump fat shaw.
bad move in the first place.
shaw cancelled a telephone conference with the media and bradley recently cuz it was gonna cost him a gee
lol.. Bradley didn't even mention Pac or Mayweather in the interview.. you think he'll really fight them when he ducked Khan? Be serious.. and there's been no discussion of a payday with them.. the Khan - Bradley payday is public knowledge now..
I was responding to someone who said if Khan loses Bradley will miss out on his biggest payday, which is not true..He still would have Pac or May..Bradley has not mentioned any fighters because he has issues to take care of. Before he can move forward..
What Bradley needs to do it man up and take the figt like he said publicly many times. THEN you fire the most horrible promoter in the business-Gary Shaw. He's gonnA lose what little support he had.
Rookie move. Weak, and as one of his fans, I don't like it at all. I'll give him another chance.
Lol at you people. This is all about Shaw. Bradley and Shaw cannot work together anymore. Has nothing to do with Khan.
Unfortunately, if Bradley goes to Top Rank chasing a Pacquiao fight we won't see him fight Khan ever.
tim is getting too soft here. so now he is pissed off because he doesn't get more fights offered? maybe he wants an easy payday? i think his promoter has a good reason not to put him on at his own public. and with arrogance like this he isnt going to pull any more public interest. he should have joined the merry go round and taken khan imo. cuz its going to roll with or without him.
How can you say that man.. Bradley is ducking Khan now only a few months down the line. He would have ducked Khan a few months ago too. The whole "he coulda fought Khan in June" argument is just lame. Bradley would have ducked back then in the same way.
So why did Bradley bring up Paul??Like I said dude Khan is taking money fights, and been taking money fights..Paulie M what was that??MAB,what do you believe that was??Com-on dude open ya eyes and read the damn interview ya self and then comprehend..Why Bradley has to leave money on the table??Do you think Khan would??I highly doubt it..He has not left money on the table in the past so he would not leave money on the table now..Bradley can collect his 1.2 and when he comes back to the nego with Khan demand at least 2mill range..Which do you believe to be smarter??
Bradley seems to be hesitant. I know if they put some bum out there with the same reward that he is getting from Khan's fight, Bradley will take it in a heartbeat. Bradley seems to be wary of Khan. He was talking the talk and now can't walk the walk.
It's business dude, you are saying Bradley should leave money on the table..I don't believe anybody in his shoes would do that..
I see where Bradley is coming from. He wants to exhaust the guaranteed HBO purse of $1.2 million fighting anyone with name except Khan. So, when he fights Khan then the whole money situation will have to change and they have to offer or match the money HBO gave him.
So, to clarify.
Bradley wants to fight anyone except Khan to get HBO guaranteed purse.
Next, fight Khan for new purse guaranteeing the same amount.
I see Bradley then making in this year alone:
Timothy Bradley vs Devon Alexander - His purse $1.1 million
Timothy Bradley vs Any Named Fighter except Khan - His guaranteed purse $1.3 million
Timothy Bradley vs Amir Khan - His purse equals or more from his previous purse.
So, he could make $3.7 million. I see where Bradley is coming from he wants more money. And Gary Shaw is not seeing him from where Bradley is coming from.
Shaw knows time is running out so he will do anything to try to get involved in this fight so he get's some money out of it..Come June 30th he get's nothing..
The alexander fight was not premature, the problem was that it was the wrong venue (shouldve been in st ,louis) and their styles would always make a boring fight.
The only way to move forward given that both khan's and timmy's last fights were boring is to put both of them on the same card against bums in which both can shine, and then have them fight each other after that
To be fair,I think a fight between them would have been better if Alexander new who/or what he was doing in there..Alexander beat guy's off talent not skill..I had Alexander losing to Kottie but I can't be mad if someone saw him winning because Alexander is talented and shows fast hands and knew how to try to steal rds..But he was in noway ready for Bradley bro,he needed a fight like he's having now before fighting a Bradley imo..Kottie although solid is not like a Matt's who is gonna push the issue and have power behind it as well...
After reading that interview, nothing he says makes sense or has any basis in logic. He even said "it's not about the money" then he said he wants to "let the fight marinate..." so why does he want to let the fight marinate if it's not about the money? Bradley or Khan could both lose to other opponents in the meantime and then Bradley has blown his biggest payday just like that.
Pac or Mayweather would be Bradley biggest Payday..If Khan loses it's just really on Khan not Bradley..
bradley would have no problem filling seats at say like the honda center or the home depot center. he should pick better venues for people to recognize and follow him. once he has the fans he can go back fighting somewhere in bumfuck palm springs. :lol1:
Is it Bradley who picks venues or his promoter??:tapedshut
Seriously... I feel for the guy because he has got his **** the hard way fighting tough fighters.... be he was the one who called Amir Khan out. If he was being pressured by everyone and told that was where the money was I understand why he did, but you can't have your cake and eat it too.

He makes many valid points. I thought the Alexander fight was premature. He is right Khan didn't have to fight mccloskey. but it don't matter what Bradley says, he is gonna have haters who thinks he ducked Khan, which doesn't make logical sense. But its ok for Khan to fight Paul, and its gonna be ok when he fights Morales. Bradley has challenged himself time and time again, while Khan takes money fights
Hes only fought in front of his home crowd 3 times because he doesnt have a home crowd.
:lol1: his hometown is kind of a weird location for boxing. people generally only go to palm springs when they have lots of money to blow off, it's all the way out in the desert and not a lot of folks from the SD or LA area want to make that travel.
