I think the consensus is that it sucks. Marquez just didn't look the same physically at that weight and it seemed as if it hindered him. But he can't come in too light because gaining water weight isn't going to match the strength and power of a 144lb Pacquiao. One who will still be faster than Marquez.
Second, physical advantage aside, Marquez' age will be a huge factor here. He is still mentally sharp and is an offensive machine but his legs are nearing Jones status and he's taking a lot more punishment than he used to. That Katsidis fight is all you need to see. Forget the stoppage, Marqiuez got hit a ton. If he takes half as many punches against Manny (which he will--more than Katsidis hit him, if he lasts that long), forget it. Yet another fight to line the pockets at our expense.
as manny fan i love this fight, im not buying what pactard said that manny has become masterful in boxing ability, cause in his last fight i think he get exposed by shane. i dont think the weight is the issues.
when jmm fight floyd is not the weight make jmm lose, it's style jmm always struggle with good boxer (ex: chris john) and if two boxer fight ofcourse the one who have better reach and speed will win.
Stupid threads, as usual. And it's coming from the same clown who claims to follow boxing. I don't even see him in PWill threads and other prominent threads requiring his "important" opinion. Same clown who says all of Pac's wins were not welterweight material. If that is the case then both Pac and Marquez deserve each other. Its a perfect matchup! What a bunch of clowns. They cover all sides of the argument. How can anyone win with these idiots? LOL.
:duh:
And you ignore the CWs and circumstances that handicap those opponents , now its CW for JMM in a trilogy fought much lower and Pac can make 140 so says Roach which would make it somewhat fair , but hey they want the CW for the speed handicap it will put on JMM , its fuken obvious and you cant see it ,, thats why I know where your at bud .

it'll cost me maybe $5 after everyone chips in...no biggie
LOL! Thank you!!! seriously guys, its not that expensive if you friends. hahahahha!
"I don't wanna pay 60$ blah blah blah"
YOU SHOULDN'T! FOR ANY FIGHT!
I dont like it..
Wish the fight was at 140...
I wish it was at 140 as well. He would have more of a chance. Unfortunately, Pacquiao is the bigger star and has the last win anyway so Marquez can't really dictate any of the terms :/
This thread will be interesting. But to answer, I think its evident that JMM doesn't belong there. We saw that TWO years ago. Now he's older and further past his prime, its another one of those fights for Manny.
Marquez deserves the fight regardless. He's earned it. They have to close the books with a trilogy whether you like it or not. I don't think he's the same at the weight. I don't think at this stage he gets past Pacquiao, but considering their last two fights. This one has to happen. If for the very least to give Marquez some closure on whether not he could or couldn't beat Manny. That's all it's about. Closing the books on this rivalry.
But I thought people we're crying for this match-up? I mean those same people couldn't have honestly thought that this fight was going to happen at 140 or below when they were crying for a JMM fight instead of SSM.
Or they could have been like U,saying(that Pacman isn't a welterweight).Which would then automatically bring up the question that team Pacman doesn't have to answer. The same question all of ur posts excused.Because just like U claimed,Pacman isn't a welterweight & beating Marquez at lightweight for his legitimate title is far greater than bloating him up,but whatever dawg.
No, I actually don't think you do. I'll try and break this down.
Floyd on fight night against JMM: Unknown; going by the eyeball test he looked "huge" compared to JMM. And since JMM was around 145 on fight fight night it was safe to assume PBF was close to 160 on fight night. Throw in the fact that JMM said in the post fight that he felt PBF had 20 pounds on him.
Pacquiao on fight night for JMM III: He'll more or less weigh in at 147 to 148 on fight night. Seeing as how he weighed 148 against Margaritto when he fought at 150.
So you see there is a distinct and clear difference between the two situations. On one JMM was at a disadvantage of 12-15 on fight night while he'll be at a 2-3 pound disadvantage against the other.
This isn't your normal welterweight fight because the two that are fighting aren't welterweights. And yeah you're right he probably could have fought him south of 144. I think he could have fought him at 135. In fact I'd rather him do that to take JMMs lineal title from him and add another feather in his cap. But it isn't happening.
I think JMM can be effective fighting at 144 if 1) doesn't blow himself up (which he doesn't need to) and 2) Isn't fighting someone whose a natural WW who'll have a distinct size advantage against him. To insinuate that he'll be as ineffective at 140+ against Pacquiao as he was against PBF is a bit foolish considering the circumstances are completely different.
In that case, Manny Pacquaio is on PED's.
WAR EYEBALL TEST :headbang:
I know,I think we all do.It's just that some of us make excuses & try to justify team Pacman's demands. While the rest of us have become tired of it & call it exactly what it is.Very good matchmaking/cherrypicking.

Don't know, you'll have to take that up with Team Pacquiao.
One reason I would think is because Pacquiao has been campaigning at 147. But like I said, I'd much rather have this fight at 135 for JMM's lineal crown. That feat alone will catapult him even higher on the pantheon of ATGs.

as long as nobody cheats .......in the weigh in............like we know who.......
I don't think you have to worry about that. Pacquiao came in at 145 against Mosley. I wouldn't be surprised if he came in at 143 against JMM.
Sounds great bro,why is the fight at welterweight again??

Yeah,I get it from U guys.I really do.It's only different when Pacman wants to fight Marquez at welterweight. When Floyd did it it was bad.A welterweight fight is a welterweight fight bro.Pacman needs his advantages, his fans don't care & will support whatever he does,so his team & anyone else associated with him are gonna look for those advantages as best they can.If it wasn't a big deal, the fight wouldn't have been in the welterweight division.Since he isn't a welterweight like U claim, then there really shouldn't be a problem having the fight at jr welter or lightweight, now should it??But because Roach & anyone who isn't blind or dumb knows that Marquez is not an effective welterweight, they want the fight there.

Thing is this even tho Floyd was bigger than Marquez the fights not the same as it is with Manny the reason I say that is Floyds a technician he didn't even press marquez he just boxed him and moved like the matrix to avoid all his punches and make him look dumb. Manny size will matter seeing as he is a pressure fighter who will no doubt go for a KO.
He's not even a welterweight at all. With today's 24 re-hydration period almost no welterweight comes in on fight night at 147. Fighters who come in at 147 are big lightweights and JWWs.
JMM doesn't have to make the WW limit. I think it would be a huge mistake if he does try to bulk up like he did against PBF. However it was understandable to do it against PBF because PBF was actually a legit WW, but he doesn't have to against Pacquiao. JMM is only at a disadvantage fighting at WW if he actually tries to fight at WW or is fighting an actual WW. Since Pacquiao is the latter all he has to do is come in what he is comfortable in.

That's all I want to know.
I think it says alot about him, people talk about how he so great but the more he fights since he's more popular now the more I lose respect for him. I liked him at smaller weight classes but now it's like all his team does is look for advantages over other fighters, slow guys, old guys, guys with no defense, etc. And espn riding dick all day like he doing great things. Marquez had no power at welter and is slower, pac has more power and maintains speed. Not to mention pac never can make 147 so they could have easily made the fight at 140 but nooooooooo they as usual being pu$$y.
Ok but do U believe that Pacman is a small welterweight??I do,I think his team simply wants every advantage imaginable.Marquez isn't a welterweight. If team Pacman fights him,why can't it be at a weight both are comfortable at??

From a fan's perspective, it should be...I don't know what else to say, I thought I made myself clear for that other poster. If you're wondering why it's at 144, isn't that clear as well? Who's challenging who? Think about it, why would you bend to a challenger's demands? It's not an argument, it just is what it is. Oh and, I think he's kind of a small welterweight, but he's a legit welter no doubt....no doubt about it anymore atleast. In the Mosley fight, for the first time, I thought to myself, 'he's really filled now huh?' I can no longer picture him going to 135, to 140 sure...a little water weight, and a couple missed meals here and there, less strength training, more cardio...he can do 140.
