Tonight I witnessed and feeled something, that I didnt feel since Lewis-Vitaly fight. I was so pumped into this 1, I believed in Hopkins, stayed all night to watch this fight and doubt im going to bed anytime soon)
The guy releases from prison, loses his 1st pro fight and his next fight comes only in 2 years. After all of this he shies like 1 of the best prospects. Today he is 46 and he sure looked good against Pascal and won that title.
I bow to this guy, for me he is an idol. Perfect example to any sportsman out there. He is smart, he's got great defense, he knows how to play mind games.
And please, no need to spend your time bashing his style and the way he fights..tonight he proved everything! He was and still 1 of my favourites fighters. I bow down again, huge respect to you and congratulations Bernard!
and ppl wonder how he does it....
age 46, doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, makes money & isn't flashy. u hate hopkins, u hate yourself....perfect example of the american dream right here.
idiots say he's boring, don't like his fights, etc......hopkins shows you waht the sport is all about. hit and don't get....what his career has been built on, the reason he'll still be around beating ass close to his 50's. u dudes that like to see "wars" and "brawls" how long does your favorite fighter last in the sport? and by "last," i mean remaining a relevant threat, and not a stepping stone, or fighting to collect checks.
Spot on bro. The idea is to hit and not be hit. People who call that boring lack a real appreciation for boxing. Don't get me wrong, I loved watching Gatti, Corrales, Hatton, Katsidis and countless other face first brawlers, but fighters like Hopkins deserve every bit as much respect from the fans. He's even taking more risks now than he did when he was a younger man, so why people still hate on him is a puzzle.
Great, great fighter... am I the only one that was getting a little annoyed with the HBO team though? Seemed like they were biased as fukk, Hopkins proven why he is an ATG and HOF though.
You can't hate on what he's done in the ring. And no matter what you think of Pascal as an opponent, that isn't the point. Pascal was the best light heavyweight in the world, he earned the right to be called that, and at 46 years old Hopkins schooled him twice. That's unbelievable.
An appreciation thread that I will recognize and respect Hopkins world setting record. Oldest man to win a championship belt. Congratulations. :headbang:
How is an over-the-hill fighter who has never been known as a knockout puncher still able to compete against some of the best talent in the world today?
The answer is simple. Nobody in today’s fight game, including Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, can match Hopkins' mental skills. He has been boxing professionally for over 20 years and during that time he has mastered his craft in the ring.
When he steps through the ropes, B-Hop rarely makes a mistake. He knows exactly what his weaknesses are and he does an exceptional job of disguising them. Likewise he knows his strengths and he has a knack for tricking his opponent into thinking otherwise.
If I had to guess, I would say we will never see another fighter like Bernard Hopkins

my alltime fav fighter...boxing heads used to laugh at me when I said B.Hop was my fav of ALL...boxing heads even laughed when I said B.Hop got robbed of the "Fighter Of the Decade" award....boxing heads laughed when I said B.Hop was the GREATEST of ALL the active fighters in the game today....I wonder if those boxing heads are STILL laughing?!? :lol1:
He's a special fighter....I just hope he doesn't stick around too long...
When Pascal caught him in that 3rd round, the thought entered my mind this could be it but Bernard like a vet didn't panic and kept fighting...
I hope whenever he does go out its on top...
Couldn't agree more.
I feel so privileged to have seen this historical fight tonight. It's just unbelievable what this man has done.
