Roy's age is no excuse for the way he has performed. Great boxers like SRR, Ali and Holyfield fought well into their 40s and did not get KOd by bums the way Roy has.
Roy cant do it without roids, plain and simple. He's a very good fighter but not a great fighter like Calzaghe who accomplished his record cleanly.

Calzaghe has never fought anyone remotely close with a prime RJJ's reflexes, power in both hands, speed
he would lose via UD but not a walk in the park for Roy. the guy getting beat up up slaps just shows me Roy's decline was more pronounced than Calzaghe's decline
i dunno man, ruiz was a mo fucking beast he was bloody hoooge.
roy beat a number 1 atg there
Not close but he went up a lot in weight , no CW crap and beat a decent HW , thats a lot more harder to do than say what Pac done to Margo ,,, its not any one fight its the fighter as a whole and what you see when they box , its all relevant , who , when , why , how !
Roy's fall from grace is more akin to a one-dimensional steroid user than an ATG fighter. Hes nothing without his special juice.
No need to come with sour grapes , its to do with styles with RJ , when Roys style loses a step its the end for them because a great boxer then gets hit and its all down hill from there , if he had got out after Ruiz he would have been talked of for eons , hanging around taking beatings when a shadow of his former self means what really , that he was not a very special fighter in his peak years ,,,,, you were give eyes kid use them .
All I got to say is if they fought in their primes Joe would not go 8 rounds with that Roy Jones , Slapper was more hype job than great fighter ,,,, I will bet the TS is a Brit :)
I thought you were for clean boxing?
Roy is a known steroid user and you are pretending that it had absolutely nothing to do with his performance in the ring. Why do you Yanks only become Scientists when Pacquiao is involved?
Ridiculous argument. Age always matters. The fact that you have to go back and mention fighters that fought when the sport was different shows how much you want this to be true.
Name CURRENT fighters, in this era, that can fight at the highest level past the age of 34. It's just not likely. Hell, it wasn't likely then, either. It isn't now.
Roy and Calzaghe aren't linked together. Neither fighter fought one another in their primes. All there is to it. Now, stop with this nonsense.
prime calzaghe fought past it hopkins and totally shot Jones (yes he was totally shot even then) and got knocked down by both and barely edged the decision against hopkins. Jones beat John Ruiz for f sake you think Calzaghe could have done that? Prime Jones jnr dominates Calzaghe beats him to the canvass and pisses on the corpse ... end of thread
i think you guys are taking these brits too seriously in here. they can't honestly believe that joe > roy. the brits know that deep down, they're in the minor leagues when it comes to boxing. they're just having a laugh, that's all.
And when you say stuff like this no one can take you seriously.
;10577835']Hahaha, get the hell out of here. Hopkins robbed in the Calslappy fight.
funny how hopkins always gets robbed...
Better take out the race card.
If Roy had stopped fighting at age 36 like Joe did, this wouldn't have been a discussion.
If Calzaghe kept on fighting through the age of 42 like Roy has, we don't how many losses would he have suffered.
We do know however, that Roy has been past prime since age 34.
They were both great fighters. Roy, prime, greatER. It's not much of a contest. Roy's losses to Cal and Lebedev both meant about nada to loser or winner.
All I got to say is if they fought in their primes Joe would not go 8 rounds with that Roy Jones , Slapper was more hype job than great fighter ,,,, I will bet the TS is a Brit :)
C'mon, who has Roy beat?
A 28 year old Hopkins? a 26 year old James Toney? John Ruiz? Antonio Tarver? Felix Trinidad? Montell Griffin? Virgil Hill?
Joe Calzaghe beat a 43 year old Hopkins, Mikkel Kessler and Jeff Lacy!
Roy beat Lacy too, but Lacy was only a mere shell of his former self at that stage, no longer the great champion he was when he battled Calzaghe.
So clearly, Kessler is the reason Calzaghe is the greatest. Sure, Ward dominated Kessler, but you must remember Kessler was just an old and shot man, not the same monster that Calzaghe tamed.
Joe Calzaghe hid under a rock until he decided he was going to retire soon, and fought to legends waay out of there prime. The public still doesn't know who that coke sniffer is.Roy and Hopkins would've made a fool of Joe. Joe said him being on the canvas twice helped him make a decision to retire.
