Born in England with Jamaican roots.
Moved to Canada as a kid and represented Canada in the olympics.
Yet i see brits claim him as their own.
So which is it? A UK or Canadian fighter?
No.
Lots of other fighters are not seen as what their birth location would suggest.
Is Jean Pascal a haitian fighter?
Is Antonio Margarito an american fighter?
Lewis represented Canada due to his location at that time, I believe his mother sent him there to keep him out of trouble. We can agree that wasn't his choice? When he was an adult and it was his choice regarding where he would live and who he would represent, he chose the UK. He's as English as bad teeth!
True, but in Lennox Lewis's case he is British.
You can make an argument for him being a product of Canadian boxing, but you can't make an argument for him actually being Canadian.
Technically he is canadian though? A canadian citizen.
But i see what you are saying.
Hes a british man and a canadian product/fighter.
And i guess if Lennox himself considers himself a brit, that is all there is to it.
Superb fighter either way.
Pascal didn't spend his first 12 years in Haiti.
Margarito didn't spend his first 12 years in Mexico.
Lennox Lewis did spend his first 12 years in the UK, and that makes him British.
There's a difference between moving to another country when you are basicly an infant and moving when you are nearly a teenager.
Not if the argument is "hes born in X therefore he is X".

I'm a Brit and Lennox is one of my favourite fighters, but I don't honestly care what nationality he claims. He could call himself an Outer Mongolian for all I care. It wouldn't affect my opinion of him. (for the record though, I believe he considers himself British).
Jean Pascal is born in haiti, and noone think of him as a haitian fighter do they?
I have no opinion either way, the thought just occured to me today and i wanted to see what others felt.
Didn't Lennox learn to box in canada? If he started boxing before he moved i would have definitely felt he was a british fighter but now im not sure.
Pretty open and shut thread to be honest, born in the Britain..hes british.
However, i did see a thread claiming that Nonito Donaire (who was born in the Philippines) is American..so i where your coming from with this thread.
