A proposed grudge rematch between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto is on the shelf for the moment. In addition to the broken orbital socket Margarito suffered in his brutal loss to Manny Pacquiao last November, “The Tijuana Tornado” also suffered a detached retina in that fight. The injury could force Margarito to retire from the sport.

This means, Cotto VS Margarito ain't gonna happen.
That said, its pretty ****ed up, the man wanted to make a comeback to erase the demons of the past, and instead, he gets more than he bargained for.
^Interesting. I wouldn't mind him disappearing from boxing, but I'd like to see Cotto avenge his loss. Then hopefully they both retire after that fight and winner won't rematch Manny.

Last night during the transmission of the ESPN Radio show A Los Golpes, the ‘Tornado de Tijuana’, Antonio Margarito, reported to quell rumors about his supposed retirement motivated by a detachment of retina left it on his last fight against Manny Pacquiao.
After the bout in which Antonio Margarito received a beating, he suffered a skull fracture, specifically in the right orbital bone that required surgery. Beyond that, he did not suffer any other injury, much less the detached retina that was handled in the specialized media.
“I have not seen such news but I have been told that I had a detached retina and that I am going to retire. But those are just speculations, my retina is not detached. I have an appointment with Bob Arum’s doctor on Thursday. I am in the doctor hands. The only thing is that I cannot fight in September because the doctor has not given me green light and that is why I am going to see the specialist on Thursday.” Clarified “Toño” Margarito in the radio show.
The Tijuana fighter will travel tomorrow (march 19th) to California, to see the specialist and right there he will know if he can return to boxing in 2011.
“100% sure there is no retinal detachment. I keep training. I have been sparring because the doctor said: OK, start your sparring and all that. Everything is fine with my eye. There is no retinal detachment, it is right and everything is fine” He added.
Earlier this year it was handled September as a tentative date for the return of Margarito, and this would be in a rematch against the Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto, but the doctor advised him to rest all this year to continue with the medical studies.
“That is why I am waiting too, because health comes first. I am in the doctor hands, but I really want that he gives me green light and say to me: you can continue in boxing, you can fight, because I am willing to return to boxing. But for now I cannot because I am in the doctor hands, and he has not given me green light to return.” He finished.

is this credible? i remember seeing this in some article last week. but it seemed like the author simply made a mistake since he mentioned "detached retina" but never mentioned "cracked orbital bone." now, that mistake has gone viral, seems to me.
wouldn't they have diagnosed a detached retina immediately after the fight?
i'll wait until marg or garcia says something until i believe it.
While I do feel somewhat bad, it's hard for me to really sympathize with him. What he tried to pull with Mosley, and probably before that, he doesn't deserve to fight. What can I say? Karma is a *****. The corner should've stopped the fight.
Karma's
a bi.tch aint it? Hope he doesnt have any long term damage in the end...but think about what he could have done to others with his plaster. A damn shame cause i used to like the cat until he got caught and suspicion arose about his last fights
I wish he would have atleast been able to fight Cotto this year....
same here. i actually think that the cotto/marg II would most likely would have earned around a million PPVs, considering the history of the two.
that's what happens when you want to walk through Pac's punches. I mean the man slices you up with his blinding fast handspeed. You don't walk towards Pac...let alone do it without blocking, or moving your head. That's madness.
Sad he prolly got hit by boxer who was doping.Even though he had cement in his fight against Mosley I never want to see a fighter get injured
i wonder what kind of karma manny would get

You again? You were clearly rooting for Margarito and pretty damn sure that he will kick Manny's ass so you want Manny's fans to prepare their excuses. What happened? Now your back to doping. Can't you think of other way to destroy or discredit Manny?
