With the help of CBS, Manny Pacquiao's unanimous decision over Shane Mosley on May 7 attracted more pay-per-view buyers than any of his previous fights.
CBS's cross-promotion, which included three episodes of "Fight Camp 360" on the network, helped the Showtime pay-per-view card generate 1.3 million to 1.4 million buys. The final tally is expected this week.
"We're very happy with CBS and Showtime," said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao. "They were a great partner, and this is the biggest pay-per-view result in Manny's career."
The WBO welterweight champion's previous best was 1.25 million buys for his eighth-round technical knockout of Oscar De La Hoya in 2008.
"It was a very successful promotion," Arum said. "Manny doing 1.3, 1.4 million buys is outstanding."
The fight at the MGM Grand Garden had a live gate of $8,882,600, boxing's 14th-highest gross in state history. Officially, 15,422 tickets were sold.
Arum said he thinks boxing could return to prime-time network television on CBS this year. But if it happens, it will probably be without Pacquiao because he might be too expensive.
"Manny makes between $20 million to $30 million a fight," Arum said. "How are you going to leave that kind of money on the table to fight on free TV?
"I'm not ruling it out completely. But I don't know that you could make it work (economically)."
If not Pacquiao, Arum said, former world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik might be a candidate for a CBS bout.
Pavlik, 29, has a compelling life story, as he has battled alcoholism. Arum said he thinks there are enough worthy super middleweight opponents for Pavlik to create a good TV matchup.
"Lucien Bute is a possibility," Arum said. "Andre Ward. Carl Froch. There are lots of good fights for Kelly."
While Pavlik is a good story, it's debatable whether he could draw enough viewers to make the investment worthwhile for CBS or any other network.
Mayweather vs Oscar doubles Manny vs Oscar And then you ppl say Mayweather is askin for 55/45 which is stupid blah blah he should really be gettin 60/40 atleast then Mayweather said 100Million each 50/50 for both fighter cuz the fight will make 300plus million how is that not reasonable
naaaaaah.........im all good...............unlike you.........i dont enjoy talking about d1cks........................LOL.........carry on:439:
STRUGG everytime I see you make a thread about, and I quote "Gayweather" it makes it look like you have a crush on him. You're obsessing over him like an ugly teenage girl...or an ugly teenage gay guy. Your choice.
His fight with mosley will do 1.4m buys, if pac had the mosley floyd did (with all the hype from boxing fans that mosley had a decent shot), then those numbers would have been even bigger
pac was a one man show, he was the main reason people bought this, a very good comparison will be the marquez fight, pac will do around 1.2-1.3m buys in the ppv market against him since marquez is a decent draw and with the trilogy
also remember pac did not have the huge promotion mosley had with his fight vs floyd
In 1-2 years I can see pac doing around 1.6-1.8m buys per ppv as his usa fan base develops
nobody will be bigger than oscar but manny will prob go down as the 3rd biggest ppv draw behind tyson and oscar when he retires, maybe even 2nd
Pacquiao is the biggest draw the sport of boxing has ever seen and whats scary is he still isn't even in his prime yet.
GBP and HBO are looking like f*cking morons right now.
:lol1: good one
If this is true then Bob should give thanks to all the pac hater/flomos who bought the ppv and desperately prayed shane will beat pac so they will have a more legitimate excuse of floyd avoiding the fight with pacman.
They thought if shane can wobble floyd their god who is indestructible, how much more pac who got ktfo several times. Pity, they just made Bob and Pac...
STFU................we talking about PPV numbers here.........:bottle::bottle::bottle:.................
And I'm just asking you how deep Floyd's dick is down your mouth man.
Simple question.
Floyd has a bunch of Garbage fight himself!! Pac has few & it's not his fault!
Who's talking about that clown Floyd? We're talking about Pacquiao. How hard is it to stay on topic. I swear Flomos can't talk without mentioning Pac, and Pactards can't talk without mentioning Floyd. It's like these dudes are joined at the hip. SMH.

with respect that's bull****. Adjusted for inflation Mike Tyson is the KING. Additionally he could sell a million PPV's fighting a tomato can.....it didn't need to be a sellable opponent.
Moving on, this is another great result for boxing and shows that the move to CBS was successful. The fact that their viewership is FOUR times greater than HBO seems to have made up for any shortcomings programming such an event or any advantages HBO would have had. A good move by Bob, that sly reptilian mofo.
Also, it's the first time Manny's numbers have equalled FMJ's with a common opponent. This means money issues are easier to work out in any future negotiation. 50/50 it is, unless Mayweather can post significantly bigger numbers (>1.5 milli) versus another opponent.
Looks like Bob Arum is going to stick with Showtime for the Pacquiao-Marquez III fight.
It'd be a stupid move for sure. How the hell is Bob Arum gonna get the rights to the first fight? It belongs to HBO and GBP. What are they gonna show? The 2nd fight knockdown over and over in the countdown special? Are they gonna show just the 2nd fight? The first fight is what made this rivalry special. This NEEDS to be on HBO to be properly hyped up.
What I also find funny is the phrase "styles make fights". We all know they do but I see that when it's a garbage fight(like this one) and people know it's a garbage fight, they try to justify it with the "styles make fights" phrase. I mean that's all you heard in the build up to this fight even though people were saying shane was shot and we were being force fed this fight.
Floyd has a bunch of Garbage fight himself!! Pac has few & it's not his fault!
Yeah but who is responsible for picking shane? You can try to put it on shane all you want but the fact of the matter is everyone was saying this was a garbage fight before it happened. Now when it turns out to be garbage all of a sudden it's only shane's fault? Pac and Top Rank are at fault. shane get's his share of the blame but i'm not putting it all on him cause everyone knew he was shot to begin with.
But Floyd's not available & Hiding! So Pac turns to Mosley who was Floyd's last Greatest opponent. Then Pac beat Mosley easier!
Now Pac's turning to JMM, Coz Floyd's still hiding! Then Pac will KO JMM which Floyd fails to do! Pac showing how it's done! Floyd will have nowhere to go but to face Pac or stay Retired!

actually it isnt...all those ppl turned in to see that dud of a fight? its might do more harm than good.
But it was the Pussied Mosley who did it! Mosley's career is over! Pac is still young & hunting the best! Pac beat the rest of the lot! Only ***** Floyd left. JMM getting Koed will erase the rest of the doubts. Martinez is just the icing on the cake! The rest can apply as sparring Partner!
people were terribly disappointed with the Oscar vs b1tchweather ppv.............after math................floyd promising one thing and failing to deliver..........................shane stunk up the PPV..........i dont see it having that much of an effect on Manny..........jmm 3 is actually a good match.............outside b1tchweather and martinez...............

to be fair.....the biggest PPV fight.......OSCAR and floyd was a dud as well....................just saying
How far is Floyd's dick down your mouth?
Just asking..
to be fair.....the biggest PPV fight.......OSCAR and floyd was a dud as well....................just saying
He's got a point. But then again people actually wanted the Oscar vs Floyd fight, as opposed to nobody wanting a Pac vs Shane fight. Even for nobody wanting the fight they still did real well PPV wise. Kinda makes me mad for the simple fact that Arum says "screw the fans" so he'll continue to make matches like these in order to sucker in the casual fan.
actually it isnt...all those ppl turned in to see that dud of a fight? its might do more harm than good.
I don't think so, even the casual boxing fans knows of Manny as a very exciting fighter and the Floyd/Manny bout is the most anticipated match in boxing right now and still is after that dud of a fight as you said with Mosley. Try and go talk to other people outside of your computer room, fresh air will be great for you....
Common guys, aren't you all just happy about the news?!! Imagine what a Manny/Floyd bout will generate in terms of PPV buys?!!! THis is very very very GOOD in boxing!!!!
