Let's forget about MP vs FMJ for a few seconds and consider something else.....
Personally if these two don't fight each other there is only two possible pairings i am interested in seeing at 147.
Victor Ortiz vs Floyd Mayweather
OR
Victor Ortiz vs Manny Pacquiao
IMHO Ortiz is the only current fighter at 147 who has the physical tools to make these two fights interesting.
- He is a big and strong WW (160+ on fight night)
- He has footspeed and handspeed
- He has true power in both hands
- He can box and he can brawl
- He can take a good punch
Now let's look at the other side of the equation.....the marketing side. He is a legit opponent and has the belt. For Manny it would be a unification match (correct me if i'm wrong here, i don't really follow where these ****ty belts are going). Any pairing of Ortiz against MP or FMJ would do a guaranteed 1 million PPV buys.
However, i think it has the potential to do much more than that. I think this because Ortiz is a young fighter, and more importantly he is a bilingual Mexican American with an incredibly marketable backstory that will resonate with the CASUAL fans (hardcore fans on lock for any combo of these fights) or anyone else who would watch a 24/7.....it would make for a great 24/7. If it's Manny, it's Mexicutioner vs Mexican.....it's a seller for the Latino community.
If it's Floyd it's a precursor to a match with Manny and additionally they could market it as Floyd facing his biggest threat since Hatton, as Ortiz is young and strong, fast and additionally they should harp on about the fact that Floyd struggles with SP's (even if true or not).
With a good marketing strategy i beilieve Ortiz vs FMJ could do 1.5 million buys and possible more. Against MP i would say 1.2-1.4 million.
If this doesn't materialise soon, in the interim Ortiz should entice Maidana to 147 (Maidana, like Ortiz struggles to get to 140) with the lure of the green strap. A dominant and punishing victory against Maidana would erase doubt and question even further and enhance a possible showdown with the two top dogs.
What does everyone else think???
The guy has only had one fight at 147, and that was against a overrated fighter in the first place, yet people want to build him so much, let him get a few more wins under his belt first, not jump straight into the deep end.
IMO, it will be a Hatton type outcome all over again. Floyd TKO mid -late on. Manny KO, early.
I agree. I think Ortiz needs to fight Aydin first then maybe avenge the loss to Maidana. If he gets a Pac or Floyd fight now i'm ok with it but I don't see any reason to rush him.

didn't need the Alexander the Twat fight to know that
but still, Pac can do 140
also Bradley looked good in his 147 tryout w Abregu
he's no threat to Pac but a credible opponent at either weight
agreed....most of the 140 pounders would be just as effective at 147
- Bradley (proven)
- Ortiz (proven)
- Maidana (very likely)
- Khan---->can't see how a move to 147 would affect him at all.
After watching Alexander vs Bradley i think Pac might actually decapitate Bradley.........

either of these fights is fully credible
that said, both Pac and Floyd destroy Ortiz
but he's the only one left so it's ok
also, Bradley can be an opponent for Pac after piss drinker

;10531486']Floyd vs. Ortiz
Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3.
Lets just keep it at that. Floyd gets to fight a young lion as a tune up, and Pacquiao tries to settle unfinished business. It's perfect. Both will do massive numbers. People know who Victor Ortiz is, and people know the history between Marquez-Pac.
Another scenario i don't mind, though at this stage (considering weight) i personally believe ortiz is a bigger threat to Manny than JMM.
Again both of these do over a million PPV buys............
