since when was pulling out of a fight injured ducking?...
Jim Lampley said Joe Calzaghe blatantly ducked Glen Johnson on a number of occasions, and with good reason. Johnson is the type fighter that no one
want to fight.
Glen Johnson 14 loses everybody was beating johnson before he pop up on your hbo screen and knockout that over hyped HBO fighter jones jr
Glen Johnson cant punch who has he knockout?..jones and ?...nobody
Glen Johnson hasn't got any boxing skills
Glen Johnson was not a mandatory challenger
Glen Johnson was not a top contender
Glen Johnson hasn't got any championship experience
so why would a man of joe calzaghe legend duck a bum like Glen Johnson
all Glen Johnson was, was a hand picked opponent he wouldn't look good on calzaghe resume anyway it would make calzaghe look like a bully picking a cherry with 14 loses what was roy jones thinking
Glen Johnson fought at middleweight and had no success
Glen Johnson fought at super middleweight lost to Omar Sheika and had no success after that
Glen Johnson fought at light heavyweight and was successful for 1 year beating HBO hype job Tarver and jones after that he had no success
so how did calzaghe duck Glen Johnson?...
You're embarrassing yourself now!
Lucian Bute became the IBF campion 1 month before Joe fought Kessler. So clearly Bute was not on Joe's radar. Calzaghe v Kessler was made in JUNE 07, the month that Bute beat Bika in an IBF eliminator. At this time Kessler, the WBA/WBC CHAMPION was the no.2 in the 168 division. Who was Joe going to fight? In fact, Calzaghe/Kessler was supposed to happen in September 07, the month before Bute beat Berrio for the IBF title. But Joe was injured.
Bute was a nobody and Kessler was the man. Calzaghe beat the man!
When Calzaghe vacated the IBF title to fight Manfredo, Robert Stieglitz was Joe's mandatory. Stieglitz then fought Berrio for the vacant title. Bute was not in the frame at all.
man i know joe calzaghe never ducked Lucian Bute or anybody im just giving the calzaghe haters a bit of rope so i can hang them
bute was already ibf champ before calzaghe even fought kessler so that excuse doesn't fly. bute wasn't calzaghe's mandatory because he gave up the belt to fight mandredo lol.
a completely shot roy jones jr wasn't too late to fight calzaghe but all the prime contenders whoa whoa you guys are too late!

And Calzaghe beat Hopkins, who beat Pavlik, so that means Calzaghe is off the hook for blatantly ducking Kelly Pavlik.
I can say Jones beat an undefeated Julio Cesar Gonzalez, and Gonzalez went on to beat Dariusz and Glen...So that gives Jones a pass to never have fought Dariousz, and he didn't have to fight Johnson, because he had already beaten a guy who went on to beat both of them. So his win over Gonzalez, indirectly gave him wins over Dariousz and Glen.
But i'm not that type of fan, how can you talk like that with a straight face?
"Calzaghe beat Kessler who beat Froch and will beat Bute, Dawson, Johnson and everybody else Calzaghe ducked so that makes Calzaghe the greatest fighter of all time".
Oh wait, Kessler beat Froch, who beat Pascal, who beat Diaconu 2x and Dawson, so that means Calzaghe is better than Froch, Pascal, Dawson, and Diaconu.
joe calzaghe ducked nobody, nobody beat him or dared to try:nana:
all roads lead to joe calzaghe
if Kessler beat Froch, who beat Pascal who beat Dawson who the best?....
if joe calzaghe beat bhop who beat Pavlik who the best?....
if joe calzaghe beat roy jones who beat Gonzalez who beat Dariousz who the best?.....
if joe calzaghe beat Omar Sheika who beat Glen Johnson who the best?.....
all roads lead to joe calzaghe being the best in the era:nana:
Froch was never really Joe's mandatory. Froch became mandatory for the WBC 168 title in May 08. He was due to fight Inkin on the same card as Bradley/Witter to decide who would be the No.1 Inkin pulled out for the second time so the WBC made Froch their No.1.
However Joe had already moved up to 175 and had fought Hopkins the previous month. He was done at 168 - and he was practically done with boxing.
Bute was NEVER Joe's mandatory for the IBF - Stieglitz was. HBO didn't want that fight.
Those 'one dimensional plodders' had world titles. Froch and the others were a little too late.

joe calzaghe could have fought carl froch and lucian Bute if he kept boxing but you must realize joe calzaghe beat mikkel kessler who beat froch and buy the end of the year kessler is going to give bute his frist L

froch and bute were joe's mandatories. ward and dirrell were almost there as well. it's weird how he was willing to face the one dimensional plodders but not these other guys. coincidence!

OK All joking aside. Would it be fair to call the Manfredo/Salem/Puwell era a super middleweight dynasty?
calzaghe destroyed all the top americans. will mcintyre, tocker pudwill and peter manfredo. don't get much better than that!

This is why it's difficult to debate with you clowns. Era/generation you know what I mean.
Generation before Joe:
Benn, Eubank, Collins , Toney, Barkley, McCallum, etc...
Calzaghe's generation:
Reid, Brewer, Ottke, Mitchell, Woodhall, Tate, Veit, Sheika, Echols, etc...
Lacy/Kessler's generation:
Froch, Bute, Ward, Dirrell, Taylor, Pavlik etc...
You were probably expecting that, so there you go.
The quality of Calzaghe's opponents it a seperate matter. The fact is he beat most of the top guys in his division.
Ottke had a great career and he beat the top guys. Although he had more controversial decisions than Calzaghe and I think Joe was by far the better fighter.
calzaghe had more controverisal stoppages than ottke. neither guy could beat robin reid so is robin reid the real king of the super middleweights?
answer-yes
Are you smoking crack? You think he beat the best of his era? Jesus christ he beat a list of no name's. Give me a break. Who cares anyway Joe slappy is somebody that most of the boxing world is happy to forget about.
ottke fought just as many top fighters and had just as many title fights. and did i miss the lacy/kessler era or something? when is that happening?

mikkel kessler was sven ottke wba mandatory challenger
Jeff Lacy was sven ottke ibf mandatory challenger
Because he did. Joe won't fight somebody who doesn't age :weed2:
man who the fu*k is glen johnson 14 loses 2 draws won 2 championship fight 1 was against the sh!tty roy jones
america has no fighters just a bunch of country music loving Honky-tonk cowboys
yeah you're a black Hillbilly
Yeah 10 years later but who's counting?
That's what is more impressive. Calzaghe won a world title in 97 and retained it for 10 years. In these 10 years he defeated 90% of the best SMW of his era. He then unified by beating two young, dangerous champions from the next era of SMW.
