Thats like a straight-up haymaker. No real techinique behind just a strong-ass punch.
WRONG! just because you dont see other boxers do it doesnt mean its not a technique, its a technique manny mastered, he does it everytime, watch pac-marquez 2 late round. it has a name, in fact MMA artists calls it "The PACQUIAO" . its a karate punch, a straight coming from the hips thats why youre seeing it appears to be a hook, however it connects as a straight. the power coming not only from the arms and shoulder but more from the legs and hips (lower body) as he stretched out maximizing the momentum. some see that movement as lunging and they think because of it pacquiao is outbalanced but thats what manny, as a southpaw and as late as he was trained the "acceptable" fundamentals of boxing, is unique. look at how he throw those straights, it makes him looked like an amateur but amateur boxers dont do them because those kinds of punches are karatekas.
maybe a "sweeping" left hook or an overhand left hook counter
its one of them punches which dont fall easily into a regular category
i dunno if i would consider that a counter ...
It's called the Pacquiao special..it's so crafty, you can't label it. That's what Mosley has in store for him come the 7th....punches from angles such that you can't describe them except for fight-ending.
It looks like a hook by the way, Pac just ducked as he threw it, there was no punch that he threw over...nearly 100% horizontal trajectory.
