Ring Magazine Welterweight Rankings may 2009
1. Shane Mosley
2. Miguel Cotto
3. Antonio Margarito
4. Joshua Clottey
5. Manny Pacqiao

in two years pac will have defeated all of the 4 above him 2 years ago, time for you haters to show the sport of boxing some respect
People say this list is old etc., but these were these were the WW rankings a month or so before Manny decided to move to WW full-time.
He went through every guy listed in the top 5, so how anyone can hate on Manny is beyond me.
I mean if you looked at the SMW rankings from Oct 2009 it would look something like this:
1. Mikkel Kessler
2. Lucian Bute
3. Carl Froch
4. Jermain Taylor
5. Robert Stielglitz
6. Arthur Abraham
7. Andre Ward
8. Andre Dirrell
9. Edison Miranda
10. Karoly Balzay
With Bute, Froch, Ward, Dirrell, Abraham being undefeated, Kessler having one loss, and Jermaine Taylor having 3 losses.
If Ward or Froch wins the super six tourney and beat Bute, which will have happened two years after those rankings, are you gonna cry/complain that some of there wins came after another fighter got a win over an opponent before they did?
I mean the average elite fighter fights on average two times a year, and seeing how you can't fight everyone at once, someone is bound to beat a guy before you get to him, especially when it's the best fighting the best.
Lastly, most of those elite SMW's were undefeated but once they entered the supersix tourney against other elite fighters in their weight class, some of those guys lost here and there.
In similar fashion, margarito lost to elite WW's in Williams and Mosley, Mosley lost to Floyd, Cotto lost to Margarito, and Clottey lost controversy decisions to Margarito and Cotto that manny could argue that he was on his way to winning. When elite fighters fight each other, that's what happens but atleast they are fighting each other.
Damn, just can't please some people. Within a year and 1/2 of May 2009 aka 3 fights, he had taken out 3 of the top 4 on that list, with the last straggler getting his in about 2 weeks. Pacquiao cleared out the division. People acting like there were better fighters/challengers at WW than those guys :lol1:
Too bad a 140-lber with no heart dominated the glass-jawed cabbie killer Berto before Manny got to him and you can't use him as a crutch anymore... So who from May 2009 to now would have been more impressive at welter?
Zaveck? Senchenko? Throw some names out there... whose left?
There was no body, that's the funny part. Pac has cleaned out the 147 division on 2 years. A division that was ****ing stacked when he got there. A division that he's campaigning at while being one of the smallest men in that division. The hate this guy gets from a few fools is ridiculous. The arguments against him are two fold, half ass conspiracy theorys, and lame knit picking.
Do you not understand the sport? size doesn't win matches SKILL DOES. Margarito was flat footed, come forward, no defence fighter, and since the devastating mosley loss, his punch output has also decreased, so was not the same ruthless volume puncher he once was. Pac had all the necessary tools to win against the very vulnerable maragrito. REMEMBER skills win matches not size.
Hahaha that's funny. So size doesn't matter? Why doesn't sergio jump up and face vitali or his brother then? Would be an easy win for homi, I mean size doesn't matter in boxing. Really weight classes are just around for show. U my friend no not of what speak sir, please refrain from embarrassing yourself further.
yeah see were they were when manny fought them. all guys would have been lower. **** floyd fought jmm when he was number 2 pound for pound, lol. I can draw diagrams and make charts making anyones wins look good. only thing that matter is what have you done for me lately.
so we use 2 year old rankings now??lol
Yet who are the top WW's now? Considering 2 of the belt holders are a joke already.
Floyd is "retired" who is left ? Ortiz? You really want to derail his career this early?
I agree that Bradley doesn't do one thing great. No doubt about that, but he's good in everything.
These versions of Marg and Cotto don't do one thing great either. They're a shell of their former self.
However, I would favor that version of Cotto that Pac fought over Bradley. I'm not so sure about that version of Marg that Pac fought
That version of margo would have 15 pounds on Bradley. bradley can't crack an egg, Pacquiao hit margarito with everything over 12 rounds, Margarito almost dropped Pac with a body shot, Margarito fought with one eye most of the fight and landed 200+ shots on Pac.
That Margarito would have killed Bradley. get real.
:lol1: But but but.. he needs to clean out the div.. wait.. no he needs to go back down to 135 to fight JMM.. i mean he needs to go to 160 to fight Martinez.. They are all cherry picked.. fixed fights.. plus Pacroid is taking steroids.. and the judges are in Arums pocket.. and he's weight draining his opponents.
Yeah, that's nice and all, clearing out the division and what not BUT right now he's ducking Ortiz, Berto, Senchenko, and Zaveck... you know, the premier welters of their era.
Stop ducking Manny, stop ducking :purity:
Just stop running. Stop running out there Manny.

Antonio margarito rained down to 150 for a 154 belt
cotto drained down aswell coming off a series of Kneels....
also the clottey fight was clearly fixed IMO
Ive seen some haters, but you have to be the best haha
Cotto "drained" LOL...he weighed in at 145 for the previous 2 fights.....
Margarito "drained" - how was he drained, if anything he was permitted an extra 3 pounds, its just it was for a belt at 154....
Anyway pac deserves props from every boxing fan, any1 that discredits him is a joke
So if Ward beats all the top SMW, your gonna discredit a lot of his wins due to other top 168 beating those guys before he did?
So basically his win over Kessler, Abraham, Miranda and (while I doubt it) Carl Froch mean nothing due to those guys losing before he got to them?
What kinda logic is that?
It's not about who but when.
The Kessler is a good win cuz' of at the time he beat him.
The Miranda win? Not so much.
The AA win? AA only has 2 solid wins at 168 and that is Taylor and Miranda both fighters who have done nothing at 168 or am I wrong? counting that AA has losses to Dirrell and Froch at 168 I wouldn't really consider him a top fighter at 168 right now, would you?
However, if Froch beats Johnson and then Ward beats Froch, then if Bute still doing his thing and Ward beats Bute, and Dirrell gets in the ring and wins and Ward beats him.
Then yes he would have cleaned out the division.
However, if Johnson beats Froch, and Ward doesn't fight Johnson, pulls out the tourney, and then Froch has a questionable fight and then Ward fights Froch and beats him, Bute and Dirrell losses and look like ish in other fights and then Ward beats them. Then no, Ward is not cleaning out the division.
What's wrong with that logic?
