Would you wanna see this fight?
It has all types of selling angles. Old friends/stable mates, now enemies settling the beef in the ring. Rival sibling trainers...the battle for Oxnard...haha...
Before people were saying Rios would kill Ortiz. I always said Ortiz would outbox him to a TKO prob just a straight KO.
Given they are in different weight classes, but if they agreed to a catchweight (I'm not a catchweight fan but for a fight like this i'll make an exception)...who takes it how!
Let me hear some thoughts!
Please no trolling. Be professional about your opinion, post it, and then GTFO! haha!
As much as i like both of them, Ortiz would KO rios in the mid rounds.
Rios is a pressure fighter which breaks down fighters in the later rounds. The problem is he has NO DEFENSE. He takes massive damage while doing so. He showed alot of heart in the Acosta fight but Acosta came close to finishing him at some points. As much heart as Rios has, be would not be able to take the Massive damage a BIGGER AND STRONGER Ortiz would inflict. And offcourse there is no possible way of him outboxing victor since ortiz is far more skilled.
Bad matchup for Rios.
Rios is a pretty big lightweight and Garcia mentioned how he's moving up to 140 after a few more fights at Lightweight. I'm sure they can find some kind of agreement on weight.
But I have a hard time seeing this fight happen anytime soon. Ortiz just won a title in a new division which creates a lot of new opportunities for him. Rios has quite a bit of options as well.
Here's the main thing in my mind- Rios looks a little soft (physically) at 135. He doesn't look like he kills himself to make the weight by evidence of him having a little pudge in his midsection usually. That to me says that a move up in weight is probably not a great idea for him. If he can comfortably make 135 I don't think he gets any better moving up.
Having said that, if he could get Ortiz to agree to come way down, say back to 140, where we know Ortiz will struggle to make weight, then I think Rios would win like Pac over DLH.
If Rios were to say "F it, I want the fight b/c I hate Victor, I'll go up to 147" or anywhere close to it where Victor is comfortable I think Victor will be too big for him. Bam Bam's style is to take punches so he can get inside and land his own, I don't see that working well if he goes in with guys way too big for him.
Let's assume a catchweight between the two fighters:
Rios vs Ortiz - Rios' pressure breaks him down late
Rios vs Ortiz' bearded alter ego - Rios is picked apart by the 7th.
I dont know if they were to agree to a catchweight i could only see Ortiz going down to 143 at the most because hes probably delighted with how the move up in weight has helped him and Rios as good as he is at LW its hard to know how he would fight above LWW id go for Ortiz tko at 143 or 144 presuming that is if they would go down.
i like your pick, makes sense.
