Berto or JuanMa?
Both lose thier 0's. Who has taken the bigger step back?
atleast berto made it 12 rounds and dropped ortiz a few times.
juanma got dropped and badly hurt by salido. although I felt the stoppage was early, all the ref did was save juanma from getting KTFO spectacularly
Berto
all he had was that '0'
Juanma STILL has a fanbase and can still sell his fights...Berto is now at the mercy of HBO in getting some kind of luster back
I tend to agree, I also didn't realize Berto is 27, I thought he was younger.
i have to say juanma, because he was supposed to be head and shoulders above salido............ and came up short in a bad way.
berto was the favorite against ortiz, at the same time berto has always been in question of whether or not he was the real deal, this fight showed that he still has lots of room for improvement. props to ortiz to make it the fight it was.
i think the home setting for juanma was more of a devastating loss.
juanma want's a rematch with salido and if juanma loses than i don't know how or if he will make a comeback.
Precisely. It's not very often an undefeated fighter loses in his first fight, seeks an immediate rematch, and redeems himself.
I can't think of many to be honest...Taylor lost twice to Pavlik, Calderón to Segura, Mosley to Forrest...
Rematches are won usually by the one who won the first one. It's just the way it is. Juanma has the skills to box as he's used his boxing skills before and has looked good, but ever since that banner year in 2008 with those consecutive three TKOs in the first round made him rely solely on his power and hasn't looked invincible ever since. Juanma can do it, but it is a steep uphill battle.
And to be honest, I'd bet on Salido if the rematch ever gets made...
I voted for berto, cuz bouncing back is gonna be tough. No more easy fights. Thank god he was exposed finally.
Lopez needs a defensive guru in his corner. We know he can punch. The problem is lopez was supposed to devour Salido.....
Of course, we'll have to wait and see. I'd rather see lopez bounce back. I always hated Berto. "Skills pay the bills" LOL! :bottle:
I guess my opinion is pretty biased.
Juanma got KOed, Berto had spots in the fight plus it was a terrific bout.
Both guys still have it to beat a lot of other fighters. The good thing is that now they will be obligated to fight tough competition if they want to be considered one of the top of their respective divisions.
Juanma has KO power and a string of KOs always bring the fans back
That's a tough one! I say both are pretty devastating!
Here is why: I think both will bounce back in their respective careers, first of all. But there are many factors that can determine how devastating the loss is.
When I read the question, I think of the "quality" of the loss. Quality, in my opinion is the manner of the loss (i.e., KO, stoppage, TKO, Decision).
Then I think of the fight significance. Where were they in their careers, who are they fighting, and perception of public
Quality of Loss:
Berto: It sucks when you lose, and it sucks when you legitamtely lose. The manner at which he lost wasn't bad because it went to decision. However, what makes the quality of loss greater is the fact that although he knocked down ortiz fight. Ortiz was still the aggressor, beating Berto up frequently in the fight.
Lopez Hands down, Lopez received the stoppaged. The stoppage may have came a bit early, but know this...it was bound to happen later in the fight or he would've been KO'd. Furthermore that combination he took was brutal! Personally, he never recovered after that.
Fight Significance:
Berto: Was dubbed to be the "next floyd mayweather", easily one of the most (hate to say it) hyped fighters currently. He was going into this fight as the clear favorite. Public perception (media, HBO telecast, Fans alike) majority if not all had Berto pooping on Ortiz. Ortiz's victory and the manner of the victory shocked and amazed everyone.
Lopez: Much like Berto, Lopez needs to "Slow his roll" Lopez is a good fighter, but not the best. He displayed in this fight ( like in many others) that he can be hit and with a decently placed punch, Lopez will go down. He can pound his own two gloves all he wants, but when that punch lands he better cover up. Lopez has also been hyped
Conclusion: It's tough to lose the way they did, it's humbling. I think both are equally bad in their own right. I think both of them had way too much wind under their sail, way too fast. When people start saying your the next Floyd, or proclaiming G.O.A.T when you haven't build a solid record yet it can mean disaster....just ask Victor Ortiz.
Lopez loss was deeper to me. He had much more going for him than Berto. Berto was a world champion as well, but wasn't as touted because of the recent comp he's faced. I said all along Ortiz had the better skill set, but I did pick Berto to overcome and be victorious. But, Im glad Vic won, he deserved it. But I think Berto is obviously still in the mix but I also think he will always have trouble with Ortiz. However, I tyhink Lopez could bounce right back as well, but he needs to smash Salido and not let it be close. But Salido is much more than a tough customer, we shall see.
regarding future fights,i think berto since he would have a hard time crawling back up. he wasn't considered elite yet and now he's out of the running for big fights. i think juanma will definitely still be lined up for big fights down the road.
I think the general consensus is that the Ortiz/Berto fight had great potential for war, and the "upset".
Juanma was supposed to go right through Salido on rout to Gamboa, or at least I thought so.
Berto.
Because Berto will have to work his way up the hard way. He has always been pampered. No more soft touches.
JuanMa, he can redeem that loss by beating Salido. Not such a hard task.
Salido has the style, chin, and power to knock Juanma out again... I really think if Lopez cant hurt Salido then then chances are hes getting caught.
juanma, but I think both will bounce back.
juanma want's a rematch with salido and if juanma loses than i don't know how or if he will make a comeback.
Hard to say, Ortiz was just an all-around better boxer then Berto. Salido was just the wrong style for Juanma.
Honestly, I think Lopez on his best night can avenge that lose, but it will always be tough for him. I don't know if Berto can beat Ortiz.
Berto.
Because Berto will have to work his way up the hard way. He has always been pampered. No more soft touches.
JuanMa, he can redeem that loss by beating Salido. Not such a hard task.
Yes it is. Specially for Juanma. Did you really say that seriously?
